    *the type who bitch about video games and how women are depicted, while COMPLETELY missing that men are idealized in these games too. Oh, and somehow missing that they are god damn works of fiction. If you wanted to see average, chunky people just go outside and hang out at bus stops or the local K-mart.

    Well,

    I mean.. if it's radioactive enough to be dangerous, it could still be used for fuel. Go far enough down the line with reprocessing and that waste goes from having a half-life of 10,000 years down to about 100.

    Of course, they'll always get their way. They've mastered the art of bleating with hashtags; the corporate world is petrified of the bad press they can generate.
    What better way to affect social change, without any ideas of your own and; all from the comfort of your local Starbucks?

    Besides, what good is a panel like this if you can't get it to rubberstamp whatever you tell them to? I bet you think arbitration clauses in contracts are designed to actually be fair to the consumer as well? :)

  13. My thought would be that they know they've reached the nadir of public perception; and every time there's another scandal, there's a bit of shock, some whinging, but people continue using the platform.

    The fact that bad press has rolled off of their backs ever since the Cambridge scandal has just emboldened them.

    So, why not go for broke now?

    Definitely -- they need a weight verification tool for women as well. Maybe some combination of advanced image analysis utilizing gravitational lensing and/or bathroom scale selfies.

    Calling out the double standard is hilarious as well.
    height? women can be picky/shitty about this one -- men can't do anything but chant "grow, grow, grow" and hope c'thulu hears their prayer
    weight? men asking women their weight is a bit taboo for some reason, despite it being 100% under their control.

    Don't worry Melvin, in about 15 years we'll no longer be allowed to drive our own cars -- with all the surveillance and tracking that comes with it.

    Then again.. honestly, public transit has been shown to be far safer than personal vehicles; so really the best solution is to only allow government sanctioned buses on the roads, you know, to keep you and the children safe.

    What if at some point in time, the powers that be deem 80 MPH as being too fast?

    What if your insurance company gets wind of this, and offers a better rate if you opt in to some kind of governor? (and eventually makes it cost prohibitive to not opt in?)

    Part of living in a free god damn society is having the freedom to do questionable, potentially stupid things. The individual learns from their mistakes, and is better for it. The problem with "but your rights end at wherever" argument is that it's an ever shifting, subjective line. And probably tends to get more and more narrow over time.

    I'd rather live with some amount of risk than limiting everyone to the equivalent of safety scissors and butter knives.
