    If a shitty feature is imposed on Google+, is anyone around to see it? In terms of being a desolate wasteland devoid of real users, Google+ is definitely leading the pack, and FB is (sadly) about 5-10 years behind.

    maybe it's the weight gain that leads to the hunger! (IE, due to hyperinsulemia the energy consumed is being partitioned to the fat cells, rather than being available for the rest of the body to use -- thus the constant hunger, despite eating more than enough calories)

    I for one hate the idea of having the snake and columbia rivers being navigable by anything larger than tom sawyer's raft. All that recreation, shipping, irrigation, and flood control stuff is just dumb.

    Well i'm saying that any kind of 'erratic' or 'suspicious' behavior would be investigated far more closely, and without a valid test for being intoxicated at time of stop, I worry what kind of measures they'd take to enforce DUI laws.

    It's not like there's a breathalyzer for pot.

    The question that always come to my mind when reading articles like this .. is why is tech singled out as "needing" to change?

    Granted it's a tech-centric site, so it will be biased -- but where are the SJ crusaders trying to get more men involved in teaching primary education, or nursing? I'd wager that the gender gap is even greater than in technology.

    This is somewhat tongue in cheek, but having traveled to several large cities, white men were somewhat underrepresented as cabbies. Is there implicit racism in cab companies hiring practices? Is this something we need a hash tag for?

    Hi, I'm a white male from a rather underprivileged background, and also have felt like outsider. Our experiences in our formative years were very very different. BUT to people like the author of this article by virtue of gender and color, we're exactly the same! Huzzah for diversity, which only occurs when people *look* different.

    Honestly, it's been basically decriminalized to the point it's trivial to obtain here for quite some time. Anyone who wanted to use it, would already be doing so. Worst case scenario, probably 90% of the state's population is within a 2 hour round trip drive of WA where it's already legal. (IE, Portland metro south to Eugene)

    The real concern I have as an Oregonian is the paranoia this will cause among police during traffic stops :(

    granted crimes like that represent the absolute rarest form of homicide, but they generate the eyeballs for media.. and as usual, alarmism will win the day.

    People need to wake up and realize that privacy is dead, and ubiquitous violations of personal privacy will soon become the norm.

    Your grandchildren will think you a bit 'off' for being of the opinion that privacy is a good thing.

    because they realize that the bulk of their sales come immediately after release. so if the DRM can hold the line for a few weeks, it's worth the investment. Not saying it's right, but that's the logic.

    You know without someone like Stalin at the helm, the USSR might not have survived WWII. Cold, brutal, but effective :( Clearly the man was a monster -- but I think people forget that the bulk of the fighting in Europe during WWII was on the eastern front, not the western; by the time D day happened, the Germans had mostly been defanged, by the Russians.

    Seriously, you can keep your 9 minutes of commercials per 30 minutes of uninspired idiotic TV.

    Without sounding overly cynical, take something like 'Big Bang Theory'. You realize you're getting strung along like a marionette right? Commercial, dumbed down humor (with laugh track), blonde, commercial.. repeat.
