    At my DMV the PCs are usually just using some dumb terminal telnet app to an old mainframe somewhere. It does seem like linux would be the way to go here. ... newer apps are mostly web and java based. /I don't use linux

    The more stories I read about Microsoft's wild ways, the more I'm reminded how bad Apple is. I guess it doesnt matter when you have 10% of the market - making hardware and software, not supporting older (2 years) hardware and software, etc. Msoft is just trying to cut costs, like every other business.

    lower costs? yes, lower PRICES for us? Don't bet on it. Does id charge the same whether you buy it from them vs from another store? nope. Do you really think Valve wouldn't LOVE to keep the difference? Do you pay less for movies at the theater because of ads shoved in your face before the movie?

    An increase in crimes = increase in patrol.

    Please DO report it to the police. Some people say it's a waste of time, but they are wrong. While you might not see a detective looking into your case, your issue will be documented and will be part of the police departments stats.

    As others have said, boobie traps might sound like a good idea, but they aren't. As you have said motion sensors and car alarms don't stop someone who is really wanting to steal something.

    Be pro-active - don't leave anything in the car that can be stolen (or seen to be stolen).

    Didn't rtfa, but it seems like these guys are selling stolen bandwidth, stolen processing time, stolen electricity, etc. Can we please start charging malware, spyware, "anyware that does things w/o you knowing about it" makers with a crime!?

    Sure, it's horrifying to see that someone could cheat, and most likely someone will try, but the polls have both parties monitoring, counting, and watching the process. Announcing the fact that the machines aren't fool proof or perfect is a wonderful thing for the process - aka more eyes will be watching and helping protect our election process.

    These problems will be fixed, but there will always be voter fraud (ie dual voting - The paper found that 68 percent of the dual registrations are Democrats, 12 percent are Republicans, and 16 did not claim a party).

    Sure it works, but it's hardly elegant. Just because you can pull some pastic off a few consoles and put the boards in one wooden box doesn't mean you should.

    Sorry to be so critical, but I personally don't think it turned out to be worth the trouble. Now if it was a really small box it would be interesting.

    Haven't they heard, or seen, people who trade tv shows don't care about quality. Higher quality is just a bonus. There are hours and hours of low quality 80's tv shows online for trade.

    8 MB RAM

    20 MB of uncompressed hard disk space

    100MB of free hard drive space for the

    Windows swap file (in addition to install space)

    Seems like quite a jump for just one point.

    The problem isn't that the FCC is trying to make work for themselves or the government, it's that they are heading the call of a million overly sensitive people.

    I personally am offended at a lot of what I hear on shock radio and tv, but I'm able to draw the line between something that is basically harmless and something that someone needs to be reprimanded for.

    The FCC has been FLOODED by complaints lately. I admit that they could take it a little easier, but it's not completely FCC's fault. (well, it is, but letter writers are also to blame).

    Keyhole isn't free, but it's worth looking at - if you're into flying over a 3d model and zooming into practically anywhere!

    It streams the data, 3d and 2d, while you moved around the globe.

    I've seen DDD's plasma conversion kit in action. The movies and videos that I've seen on it looks quite 3d - videos that weren't shot in 3d (like a madonna video). You'll believe it when you see it.
