Nevertheless there are tools out there that attempt to decompile programs; I think of them more as ways of making assembly more readable.

Note, a lot of them wouldn't work on hand-written assembly, because they rely on knowledge of how certain compilers compile various things- e.g. there was a Delphi decompile available.

  19. Retrograde step on P2P Meets Push · · Score: 3, Insightful

    This is a retrograde step.

It turns p2p file downloading into a "tv-like" experience where you have to be online at the right time to get the file.

Sure, you could probably script it so you get the files, but that makes it like tivo where you can watch programmes when you want but you have to remember to set it up so it records it in the first place.

We have evolved beyond that. Now, with p2p you can search for and download whatever you want, when you want. OK, so someone still has to be sharing it, which is less likely with older stuff, but there are starting to be Farenheit-451-like sharers out there (myself included) who are keeping one thing (e.g. a favourite anime series) alive by always sharing it.

Also, there is a significant barrier to adoption of a new p2p-like app. You have your p2p working fine, and downloading well, then you are expected to start using a new one. You don't know how it works yet, let alone how to optimize it or where to get what you want; you know that everyone else faces the same hurdles so there won't be much content for a while, if at all.

This wouldn't be so bad if you could try out a new p2p app while using an old one, but you really need to dedicate all your bandwidth to a program to make the most of it.

At the moment emule is where it's at (at least for me), and I won't stop using it unless everyone else does and the sources dry up.

By the way, I have never believed that 90% of anime is crap. Now that I can see all of it, I know that's not true. It's more like 10% of anime is not to my taste, but good, and 90% is great.

Manga has a larger perecentage of stuff that's not to my taste, but that's the proving ground for concepts, most of the best get made into anime later.

But right now there has never been a better time to be into anime because you can have it all- anime overload!

    Suck on this!

The animal on the cover of HTTP: The Definitive Guide is a thirteen-lined ground squirrel (Spermophilus tridecemlineatus), common to central North America. True to its name, the thirteen-lined ground squirrel has thirteen stripes with rows of light spots that run the length of its back. Its color pattern blends into its surroundings, protecting it from predators. Thirteen-lined ground squirrels are members of the squirrel family, which includes chipmunks, ground squirrels, tree squirrels, prairie dogs, and woodchucks. They are similar in size to the eastern chipmunk but smaller than the common gray squirrel, averaging about 11 inches in length (including a 5-6 inch tail).

Thirteen-lined ground squirrels go into hibernation in October and emerge in late March or early April. Each female usually produces one litter of 7-10 young each May. The young leave the burrows at four to five weeks of age and are fully grown at six weeks. Ground squirrels prefer open areas with short grass and well-drained sandy or loamy soils for burrows, and they avoid wooded areas-mowed lawns, golf courses, and parks are common habitats.

Ground squirrels can cause problems when they create burrows, dig up newly planted seeds, and damage vegetable gardens. However, they are important prey to several predators, including badgers, coyotes, hawks, weasels, and various snakes, and they benefit humans directly by feeding on many harmful weeds, weed seeds, and insects.
