Really? Personally I would trust a computer to deliver me safely to my destination a lot more than I trust someone else to not hurtle their car into me at 120kph.

I think if properly tested, computerized vehicles would make far better driving decisions than a lot of people I know.

Do you have a passport? How about a Social Security Number? A driver's licence? What about a credit card? A bank card?

All these cards are used to 'track' you in some form or fashion, and are used to allow you access to certain services. A store loyalty card is really no different, except the issuer is not a government, insurance company, credit card company, or a bank. As for a national identification card, its just a different form of passport or drivers licence/birth certificate that is already required for many things.

    Just some friendly advice,
You may be starting to feel better now, but don't sit around waiting for a 'next time'. Visit your doctor, tell them everything you can and make sure they listen. (Canadian here, occasionally when doctors are in a rush we get 'one foot out the door syndrome' where they are more focused on all the patients they have left to see today instead of the problem at hand.)

Speaking from a point of view that I have had family members suffer very close calls... sometimes when 'next time' comes around, its already too late.

  25. Re:Where is the end for "optical" media? on Pioneer Ultraviolet Laser Promises 500GB Discs · · Score: 1

Well, that and being unable to mark or label the medium would seem to be a barrier to adoption.

The other difficulty would be transforming the beam with regards to a transparent medium. You need some way to distinguish HI from LO, and thus for practical usage you would have to be able to stop or absorb the beam for a 0 bit, and pass it for a 1 bit. This would be difficult to do and allow for re-writing because for a high energy beam, the difference between absorbing and passing is more difficult to accomplish than for visible light.

And lastly, the issue of material still remains, because now you don't need something that will reflect, but something that will variably pass/block, which is a much more difficult task than simply reflective/scatter that is currently used.
