  1. Re:What i would like to see on Concepts That Should Be Games? · · Score: 1

I think there really could be better space games. Ships fighting each other would be cool, but I'd like to see something along the lines of pirate spaceships warring with each other, where you are part of a crew that can be boarded and stuff by larger vessels/groups. Things involving turning off an enemy's gravity, jumping into lightspeed to escape, using your ship to enter an atmosphere while being boarded...there are a ton of other possibilities. Quests could revolve around protecting merchant vessels for money. Each person in the ship would have a different point of view. Maybe even have FPS for some, etc. Eve Online seems like a good start but the only avatars are spaceships and doesn't involve multiple people.

Make it more RTS-oriented, and you really have something.

Nameless: I used a powerful virus.

    *candles flicker*

Bill Gates: So...you come for me...for this is a lie. Everyone knows there is no virus which can defeat all these enemies. No OS but Windows allows such possibilities.

But...before you destroy me...understand I was trying to bring all OSes together under one system! That system is Longhorn!

Nameless: Umm. Yeah. Have you ever seen the source for Windows? I mean, just look at SP2 for XP. A code warrior could not possibly wade through such an army of such colossal hackery.

Plus let's not forget the religious ramifications of such a discovery. You can bet there will be a lot of pushback on this.

I completely agree. Despite the tinfoil hat commentary of the poster, I think this would be remarkably good at securing data, and its use in military and industrial applications is actually not a bad idea. Like most security technologies, though, the downside is the human factor. No doubt the technology to strip this sort of scan will be developed, once it is reverse-engineered.

However, to think that the next DVD you buy or that next CD you purchase will require you to input a fingerprint scan is very far fetched. There would be an uproar from consumers.

Something's gotta be in the gaming news cycle, and both products were announced at just about the same time. This is your basic gamer pundit wankfest.

I don't care which platform has better pixeltextureshader crap and which has wifi/bluetooth integrated 10-terabyte storage systems.

It's all about the software. Are the games going to be any good? Are they going to be fun to play? Is Sony going to release games which are mostly based on the same semi-feminine anime-based spikey-haired protagonist model which has been in vogue since FF VII was released? Will it consist of the same rehashed genres and retreads of old games? Let's face it, there hasn't been that much innovation in video games in the past 10 years, aside from the now mega-long video sequences I have to sit through for 20 minutes while the narrative is scrolling across the screen in action genres. The stuff which was released in 1996 is comparable to the stuff being released in 2005. Yes, graphics have improved since the PS1. And there are some innovative games. But let's see, Mario is from the Atari age. I remember playing original Metal Gear on NES. FPS, RPG, fighters, racing games, sports games, stealth games, they're all retreads. Games based on playing cards are now somewhat popular, as if people couldn't sit down and play Magic with each other.
I know it's old age talking, but I'm still waiting for something really amazing and enlightening. AI, maybe. New peripherals, maybe. But until I see something spectacular I'll probably opt out of dishing out 300-400 bucks for either one of these babies. Not very many games push the genres they are pigeonholed in. I think the gaming industry is really stagnating. Why not make a good FPS rpg, or a game that puts together action, racing, and stealth?

Much like Hollywood, the game industry has reached that mature phase in the business where mass product sells and indies and innovative genres are pulled off the shelves. Unlike games of old, the large budgets required to pull off a console make unique games more and more rare, which adds to my own trepidation about blowing a load of cash on a new system.

    Xbox360 vs PS3? Who cares?

I don't know if that necessarily breaks chess rules, but consider that a game plan vs a computer is much different than that against a human opponent. When you play a computer in chess, you have to adjust to the fact that a good computer already has a huge database of openings. Kasparov probably played strange openings and defenses against his computer opponent. Also, you must consider that a computer is a program, and for the most part (and no not often in chess) it will run the same or a similar way each time. I don't know if it actually happened, but having a human being then adjusting the computer opponent behind the scenes is to me the equivalent of cheating. In other words, by modifying the programming, he wasn't playing a computer; he was playing a human AND a computer. That certainly changes the whole idea of man vs machine - it then becomes man vs man+machine

Problem I see is that Blizzard hasn't yet fixed some of the instance problems that exist; some people are reporting bugs from instances like getting 2.5levels of rest XP and it seems to be tied into instances from what I recall. Also as instances are loaded on different servers it could create DB or network problems, depending on how the DB is setup. So instancing an AH may make things worse, but it depends on their network, DB, and code, and I wouldn't be able to make that judgement without having at least a system diagram and probably a PhD in IT.

Thank God that George Lucas rebelled against Hollywood, not only by creating a biting satire of their business (title of Star Wars II anyone?) but by doing what no one in Hollywood has ever done - continue to add more and more to his original movies.

Let's examine, shall we? "Star Wars" obviously refers to movie stars and the battles they fight for supremacy of the movie industry. Obviously the Empire is Hollywood.

Luke Skywalker - George "Luke"-as? He wrote himself into his own film. Also he walks on the sky, ie. he's better than everyone else. Something tells me George never got past this one. Insert cliched Greedo whine.

Han Solo - Solo, as in "primadonna" - movie actors in general. Selfish assholes who would pretend to know what a parsec is.

Princess Leia - Princess "lay ya"? The porn industry.

R2D2 - Robots who make no sense, ie. movie producers.

C3PO - Robots who act all pretentious and annoy the fuck out of you with english accents, ie. movie directors.

Obi Wan Kenobi - Umm, best boy grip?

Darth Vader - wears a big black mask, is evil. This is the producer Lucas couldn't sell his original script to.

I could go on, but you get the point. Does this post have anything to do with cloning animals? Not really. But who cares about cloning animals when you can make up some random shit about Star Wars?
