They didn't get much for their shares. They recently sold SCO stock at $3.90. Compare that to Thomas Raimondi, an SCO Director, who bought at $1.12 and sold at $11.21 last April.
Has anyone else tried clicking on the related topics on the right hand side of the page e.g. company profile?
It takes me straight to Micro$oft's home page!!! What's going on here? I am running FireFox 0.9 on a Mac. I notice that the link switched to is http://http//www.sco.com/company/profile.html. Even stranger, why does this take me to Micro$oft? Is someone at Mozilla playing a joke?
I've managed to get my parents and my girlfriend's parents to switch to Firefox. I have also got several non-computing friends to use it. I use it on my Mac, Windows PC and my Linux server, it's great and secure.
Most people, of course, have never heard of Firefox.
Why don't the "responsible" PC magazines who complain about all these security issues push Firefox? Are they worried about their advertising revenues? Maybe they just don't know any better.
Part of the programmer's life is staying late and showing what a good boy you are. You let your company know that you are backing them by spending all hours working for them.
I realized a couple of years ago that I have to have a life of my own, completely independent of my company. Part of this realization came about because I was horrified how time was passing without me really learning anything new and stretching myself outside of the computing environment.
I signed up for three concurrent evening classes in non-computer related fields. My boss had the audacity to express his concern at this because I may not be available to work extra hours if necessary. I have deadlines but I don't work in a customer support type area so WTF? I explained my reasons for wanting to do evening classes and said that I intended to leave at 5pm every day. This I have stuck to.
I am still well respected (I hope!), I still work hard and I now have a life as well. I don't think that I do any less for my company, working longer hours is not always productive.
You have to stick to your guns, be polite but firm. You can also gain respect from being a stronger person.
The only two things that I never load when putting up a Linux system are LaTeX and Emacs. Just think how much space will be saved if Emacs is taken off as well.
People are coming up with lots of "maybe he saw this..." or "maybe he typed this in, the bad stuff is near the bottom of the page."
No, he typed in Mark Maughan CPA and look! What he doesn't want people to know pops up first! Serves him right, maybe next time he'll do his job correctly!
"Further complicating the problem is that even if someone were to develop an environment that attempted to prevent all of the problems caused by programmer errors, it would be horrendously complex and would likely kill performance. Until threat modeling and code inspections with an eye on security become commonplace, this problem will persist."
Java does a good job with regards to protecting the local machine when running web-based applets. Java is not as fast as some languages but it does not "kill performance" and that seem like a small price to pay.
Non-computer people just do not understand it

Despite all the security flaws being found in software and all the fixes coming out constantly, the man in the street has no idea what we are talking about.
A few years ago I was designing a radio network protocol for an electricity distribution client to control their switches. I said that I was going to encrypt the information, they said "Why?" After explaining the problems they simply replied that they had their own cell phone network for the transmissions, no one would break into it and they weren't interested. I still encrypted it though!
We need to use more intelligent environments to protect us from ourselves (and other less good proogrammers:-)). Like the security manager in Java and the security "taint" stuff in Perl.
My girlfriend is a laywer. She gave me her typical response: "Just let them bring it on, I'll put it in front of a jury!" It's amazing how often that works.
Apart from virtulization, there really wansn't much information in the article. Although it was interesting to see how much Amazon can save by using Linux
I didn't see the ad. I'm running Mozilla Firebird with the Adblock extension.

How does this violate the EULA? Apple can't go after the company for simply providing an emulator.
Now the end user, well that might be a different matter.

That's what you get for backing these poeple and helping cause all this FUD in the first place.

It just shows that it doesn't work.
