Presumeably, nobody forced you to go hunting and freeze your balls off.
Without the people that actually partake in the aforementioned, you'd never eat a good seafood or rare-meat meal again.
Whatever it was you killed lost its life. I feel more sorry for it than your balls.
No argument there:-P
Again, presumeably, nobody forced you to go one-on-one with a wild pig. You therefore did it voluntarily for "sport" whereas the pig was simply trying to stay alive.
Now, what about the people that have gone one-on-one with a wild animal trying to stay alive even though he/she never intended to harm it, let alone kill it? As a man with scars from wild animals acting instinctually without provocation; that statement actually pisses me off. Wild-pig or not, going one on one with it is not a funny or forcefull thing. If anybody is going melee with a hog, trust me when I say it was definitely unintentional.
If you used a gun (or even a knife), I'd say that it wasn't exactly a fair fight.
Get ONE thing straight: animals always have the advantage of strength and lethality. Would you take a lion without a weapon? No matter what the situation? How about a pheasant? I'm telling you that even the pheasant could KILL you. Fair fight? Tell you what, go take on a mountain lion bare-handed and tell me it was a fair fight.
You're living in a techno-world, my friend. People who actually chose to be able to be able to survive in a world otherwise are not cretins or cheaters. They're geniuses. There will once come a day where a man like that will save your life, and you'll change your mind. A man who decides to take on a moose with a 30-30 is not only suicidal, if he wins he's a frickin assasin. Realize this for the benefit of your long and prosperous life: Nature is always one-up, the trick is to surprise her. Whether it be by gun, knife or spear, you're winning a big battle
And if anybody here remembers 10six, this news seems just a little expected.
Surprisingly, nobody remembers that game anymore. It was the game that started it all, the first MMORPG. Wait! It was also the first MMOFPS. Planetside? Pales in comparison, both in gameplay and story. The community was the best I've seen yet, people were genuinely out to just have fun and the sky was the limit as far expansion and teamwork. As a matter of fact, the "MDF" system was probably the most dynamic and involving clan system....ever.
It was a project by Heat.Net that eventually seperated and became a seperate entity after heat went tits up. It lasted a quite healthy 24 months and was closed down to the chagrine of a quite large community. It played perfectly fine on a dialup connection, not too laggy to poorly affect your melee/skirmish capability.
The idea was original, both the story and the market system were quite innovative. Being a "3R" Real-Time strategy game and an intense FPS rolled into one, the opportunities for practical markets were ENORMOUS. Buildings, including: Factories, Mines, Wells, Defensive Towers. Vehicles, armor, weapons, buffs for all. There was no tradeskills, everything was traded in what was called "Jitters" ; your weapons, armor, buildings vehicles and buffs were substantial only when built in a particular location. This location could include the world map, or in a factory to be transferred to a warehouse for storage or to be deployed on the map.
These jitters? Bought. It was standard practice to buy rare jitters from the company making the game. Choice plots and ranks (required for transporting a greater amount of vehicles) were also purchased for undisclosed sums of money under the table by those who knew the programmers or knew who to ask.
I am a machinist. As simplistic a job that may sound, it's just as complicated if not more complicated than any software engineering or IT job I've ever had the priviledge of shadowing (and that's many).
You are absolutely right. You need to make your intentions popular in order to succeed, and I have succeeded because of that mentality. Being in a dying industry, a pastime lately of people aspiring to be or are already accomplished inventors; working in a machine shop is a very humbling if not life changing trade.
I am an extremely intelligent man, with the test scores to prove it. The history, resume and school records to show that I am at least a revolutionary. As of late, I know that doesn't mean jack squat compared to the actions I partake in to prove it.
Respect is a dish that is best served prepared, and being passionate or at least a little professional about your livelihood is one of the best methods to help another person prepare it. Being an extremely young man, I have earned almost all my respect through yearning to learn and genuine inquiries into the working of things and the most efficient way to accomplish goals.
Take this man's advice, people. Only a man who respects himself and the goals he wishes to accomplish is ever going to do anything he truly meant to do in life.
"I think you're trivialising your country's problems."
Exactly, MY country. By the people, for the people. Everyone has had an equal opportunity to change what they feel is problematic, %99 of the country thinks that stops at the voting booth. Despite the rampant corruption and bribery abound in our great nation's government, it is still the system that has enabled us to thrive for so long and probably will not fail us in the near future.
Half the problems you mention are ones that we brought upon ourselves and are just as capable of fixing. The beauty of democracy is that if the people want it, the people are going to have it. We are in the middle of a period where the corruption and bribery hasn't yet got to a point that the american people are going to demand change over. But that day will come. One day, the corruption and lack of representation on behalf of the people will become a major concern. When that day comes, MAJOR reforms and investigations will occur.
The US of A has been in this boat before, twice as a matter of fact. Do you honestly think the depression in the early 20's was caused by the market? Hell no. You really think the most effective war of the past 4 centuries was caused by a genuine interest in independence? Of course not.
The blood of the rightous shall cleanse the tree of the wicked, and the cycle of liberty shall be renewed. That same cycle is the only reason the Union survived the war of 1812. The will and accomplishment of the people of a nation united for the cause of freedom, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is impossible to destroy outright or even oppress in any notion.
You're right about our system being broken, but what you don't realize is that the system can be repaired, and has been before.
Wrong, doom3 dropped their price in less than 6 months, halflife 2 is still going for 60+, they both sold about the same in the first few weeks/months.
Except that the development costs Valve expended during Half-Life 2's gestation period were much higher than that of id's expenditures on DOOM3. It's natural to both expect and appreciate a long period of premium license costs, they earned it; to do otherwise would be suicide.
All can benefit from this technology, greatly. May not sound so much like a benefit to all those in the industry, but as a person who is very much interested in CAD/CAM and Phys. Simulation software for the crackpot inventor at home......this is a VERY fortunate upcoming.
The paranormal stuff got started when I was in high school with the X-Files, and Im an old man now
An old man? You're not even in your 30's yet! I first started watching the X-files in grade school, 5th Grade to be exact. You're at most 7 years older than me, and I'm a little kid! You'd be in your 70's if you had started watching when the REAL Sci-Fi generation began: in the 50's. Anybody remember the Twilight Zone? That was arguably the most respected and truly imaginative sci-fi shows ever to run on broadcast TV.
Good sci-fi still pops up every now and then, as it has and will for many years. Good sci-fi is never made purposely, it's always a good attempt at good entertainment or mental intrigue, that will once in awhile in awhile turn out to actually be good.
The problem with sci-fi is that there aren't new, original ideas. Just re-colors or combinations of popular novels or comics. We'll see another good sci-fi show, one that'll actually last; only thing that needs to happen is for it to be good enough to capture everyone's attention.
And for the record, X-Files wasn't sci-fi, it was conspiracy, admittedly so!
That said I am switching to Mac and leaving this spyware crap behind me.
Many people don't realize that spyware is not necessarily inherent to the Windows OS. Dos/Windows itself is secure, as long as you don't run programs that give anything the opportunity to compromise said security. I.E. microsoft software. Want to keep your computer spyware free? Do what I did, uninstall IE and Outlook, and install Firefox, Thunderbird and Ad-Aware. Haven't had any problems since, and my system is still secure, spy/adware free, and running at optimum level. I can handle MC9 at breakneck speed/w only 512M RAM , runnin XP.
It doesn't take much to avoid problems, it just takes regular light effort.
"Basically the status of that is that we've kind of gone back and reassessed certain of the elements of the game that we felt needed to be refined. Except for the fact that the nature of the wiki would be much similar to the peer-review med journals we already have. Patient specific information, unless collated into referenceable/w other data, is useless.
Stability and reactivity are not mutually exclusive. Being reactive yet still stable merely means it takes a catalyst not naturally occurring to achieve said reactivity.
"They maintain a hidden network of top-level FTP sites that get the best files first and allow them to trickle down the pyramid and into many a slashdotter's sweaty little fingers."
Micheal, irresponsible. Inconsiderate and stupid. Given the day and age, a database of possible and likely hubs of p2p distribution is priceless in the manner of evidence for a civil law suit. Especially those brought on by the 4-lettered monsters in the entertainment industry. Now that it has just been exposed as a public forum, many of your readers are now vulnerable to legal action due to the fact you have proclaimed many of us to be participants in highly illegal and malicious criminal activity.
I hope you realize quickly how many of your readers did not appreciate that comment.
Except for the fact that video on demand and other similar services are already possible through the coax infrastructure laid through out the entire country. As a matter of fact I watch COD pretty much exclusively.
This is a classic scientific reply. "I am only searching for knowledge of the universe" The subtext here is I am searching for God, but I digress. The search for knowledge excuse is a way for business and Governments (read military) to leverage scientific in the making of weapons and industrial tools.
Industrial tools mostly, believe it or not. Without the rather ingenious breakthroughs in robotics (these critters), aerospace (responsible for missiles, jet fighters) and metallurgy (bullets, tank armor); we'd still be rolling around in horse-drawn carts and dying of scurvy.
Without robotics, originally developed as a concept for automated fabrication and assembly; the only people driving cars would be either incredibly wealthy or they built it themselves. Electronics would still be limited to pcb and random components and semiconductors from Radio Shack.
As for those evil bastards responsible for the F-22 Raptor, they tried evening out their conscience by developing a cook on coating (yeah, the "Top Secret" stealth technology) capable of making medical equipment much more efficient and effective. Or those responsible for helicopters, whose engine design made for a standard in the automotive industry.
Let's not forget the greatest offenders of all! The metallurgists! Their scientific contributions have led to the deaths of countless human lives! For god sakes, they're responsible for the BULLET! Who gives an everliving shit if they just happen to be an important benefactor of the medical industry: the ECG, defribulators, anaesthetics, all impossible without major breakthroughs by those cretins involved in metallurgy.
Fucknuts like you are the reason people are STILL dying of AIDS, cancer, diabetes, stupidity, etc. because of your inability to support anything that could ever concievably be used for something unethical.
If you follow the money to the top of the reganomics pyramid and they get a measly 50 thousand players, they get around 10 million dollars a year. There's no way it costs that much money to run the infrastructure needed for this game.
You're right, but now factor in how much it cost them to bring this product to you. Market Research, Development, Testing, Publishing, Distribution, all are multi-million dollar endeavors. It's going to take them a couple years just to come out in the black from this venture, and that's if they get 100,000 players.
The price is wrong. Tell you what, go spend a couple hundred $M on an MMORPG. Come back and tell me you're price isn't going to reflect the fact that it's going to take you a couple years to come out in the black. Oh? That's what I thought.
I learned electronics when I was 14, not much different from 12 when you get down to it. Wanna know what hooked me the first day? Crossing a 15 Fd. capacitor with a screwdriver (Plastic handle with gloves on) with the lights off.
POPFIZZLESPARK
Took 15 minutes of hammering away with a chisel to get the screwdriver out, freshly melted to the contacts. The heat was so intense in that instant that the teachers forearms looked pretty sunburnt. As a matter of fact, many students swear they saw his skeleton light up and the one hot girl's shirt dissipate. One thing we all had in common, we were all thinking the same thing:
"I gotta try that on someone, I'M MAKING A TAZER!"
Believe it or not, alot of the crap Best Buy sells isn't crap, it's just expensive. The reason noone brings it back? Because it doesn't break until after the warranty expires. At that point, Best Buy's insurance option would kick in. It would then be returned by customer and replaced with the same item/deal. Broken item returned for refurbishing or replacement of item on extended warranty given to bulk customers, to be resold. Profit for all.
Sounds just a little too devious? Not really. But that's about 1/4 of their bottom line with a capitol cost of 1/10 of their budget. A hefty chunk of the rest comes from the little finance deals they offer with the majority of their big-ticket items like home theatres and computers.
Imagine getting a promise for oh, say $3000 in $60 in monthly increments for oh say 50 months. Now imagine having the authority to engage the deal but instill an annual premium hike to reflect the interest you enstated (without giving too much notice that it was going to happen), which could be as low as 3% but is usually about 12% or 13%. This premium hike is to allow you to pay off the entire debt due in time allotted on the contract. Whatever it is, they come out with at least $100 of sheer profit each year. On some purchases as high as $500, for 2 or so years.
Here's a question, would you pay $120/mo for a computer that would arguably still be quite impressive when you finally payed it off 5 or 6 years down the line? Well don't go to anybody who offers leasing cause you won't keep it and the shop is making a cool 3 or 4 grand. Don't go to anybody that offers financing because they're making the same amount of money and the item will probably have to be repaired as soon as the warranty (which will last til the end of the contract, if you opt for the insurance) runs out.
How about a nice, impressive (relative) car that you know you will have fun driving for as little as $300/mo for 5 years(don't forget the cost of full-coverage insurance, another $200 or so). You're single, have a budget of $3000 a month and have financial breathing room? Don't go to a car dealership. Nope, can't, you'll end up giving them an extra $5k minimum.
Don't forget, many of those online shops offer the exact same, except they often have your credit card number;). The reasons I'd rather shop at Best Buy for big purchases like that? 1-You can haggle. And having a wad of cash in hand, a really stubborn number that's not unreasonable but cheaper than anyone else and the arrogance of knowing you're going to make this month's commision bonus soar makes it pretty easy. 2-I can leave with the product for personal inspection, only to quickly come back and have it replaced when a flaw is found (but after the salesman's shift). 3-They tend to hire rather attractive and charismatic women, slingin that much cash around can get me some not-to unfriendly attention;) 4-They do NOT have my credit card number. The only people I will ever trust with my credit card number is just exactly that--people. waiters, waitresses, realtors and bag checkers.
In the end, I save and Best Buy gets reamed a little on their final bottom line. They want to finance it, they make more money in the end. The people who get paid comission however only get paid for their net monthly profit margin, get paid more if they sell it on the spot. Some also have the option to drop the price on it. These guys have a real potential to screw the bottom line and take them out nice and agonizingly slow.
If you're gonna gripe and moan about Best Buy over the online vendors, at least realize that the online vendors are not above automatically charging your credit or debit (ouch, seriously) card. And don't forget to tell us how to do it the really easy way: "DON'T BUY BEST BUY! BUY BEST BUY'S EMPLOYEES!".
You're right, the US of A can't make a US flutter like it does on earth in the reduced gravity of the moon. We can make it ripple due to shifts in position, because of the low-gravity environment the flag would be much more susceptible to such movement.
End result? It looks like the flag is waving because of the "Fan" in the "Studio".
And if anything, you could've at least brought up the radiation belt. Fucking retard.
I'm sorry, but somewhere, SOMEONE reading Slashdot in a production firm is crying. Why? Because someone actually modded you up for this mindless drivel.
Won't be efficient considering the materials to be manipulated. The basic requirement of a material to be used in machining is that it be harder than the material to be cut. Materials that are easily friable, however, tend to be quite expensive to use. The only application this material would see would be grinding, and the rate at which it would degrade would be very costly. Carbides of some type are already in use that are extremely cost efficient and capable of cutting anything that would ever see use in production. This includes titanium, space-age ceramics, tungsten carbide, and even diamond with its friable nature.
This is just one of those nifty things that will be used in very specialized projects, but will be machined by other means. Further, the specialized projects this would be used for would most likely never see the use of a machine shop.
Considering the fact that greater than half the EU countries rely on the US for artillery, tanks, aircraft and even small arms in some situations; the EU's chances against a full-fledged US invasion would be.....well, none. Having a limited supply of weapons and munitions with little if no time to train your military to use different equipment would make any officer sweat. Even if they had time to import arms, the few countries you could rely on for dependable arms (Germany, France, Isreal)would either flat out say no or would be in the same boat themselves.
Long story short, welcome to the United States of Earth.

Simple:
It has to be made apparent that you're going to lose money as opposed to gain it in a pursuit that entails intruding on one's digital rites.
Legal injunction doesn't mean anything anymore. It's something that actually affects the bottom line that's going to make for change, if any.

Profit for all.
;). 3-They tend to hire rather attractive and charismatic women, slingin that much cash around can get me some not-to unfriendly attention ;) 4-They do NOT have my credit card number. The only people I will ever trust with my credit card number is just exactly that--people. waiters, waitresses, realtors and bag checkers.
Don't forget, many of those online shops offer the exact same, except they often have your credit card number
Since you're trolling.............
Except, no.
