Your one vote doesn't count, your one letter doesn't count, you don't have much influence, if any, on politics. And, for that matter, politics on the whole doesn't effect your daily life enough to make it rational to participate and, for all intents and purposes, waste your time.

But that right there is the whole thought of it all, most people are naturally pessimistic and believe their vote does not count, and in an American typical electoral system it make's it even more so the fact, but if they band together those 3000 all of a sudden can have a united voice which is more than there is now. But say one of those decides to quit, you left with 2999, big deal right? Well slow leak that and in one month you can have 1000 left. Besides being active for something just takes a few minutes, like the couple of minutes to read this, people just chose to do something else. It comes down to choice-and most people choose to bitch rather than make a difference. As a matter of fact that's what I'm doing right now, bitching about other people bitching when I could be writing another letter.

    Ciao.

Interest groups, that's all it is. These businesses are interest groups with a hell of a lot of money to get the government to see things their way. There are barely any interest groups for consumers. Do you know why?

People just want to bitch a little and that's it. It takes the average Joe/Jane too much time to get active; they would rather sit down and surf, watch TV, or even just vegetate rather than driving somewhere for a meeting or to even write a damn letter. I bet more than half the people here will bitch all they want, mod people up or down-but writing a letter takes too much time. This is where abrasive idealists like Stallman come in trying to rally up the masses and get moving. If you look at it we are an interest group here, how many people are here? I'm sure there are enough to really get some things done if we just banded together and tried it out, hell we can see how fast we can bring down a web site after the article is posted, just imagine if we did this on a constant basis.

Not eveyone surfs the internet the same way. It's like an mechanic telling a non-car savy person that the oil bad because he can smell it, and it needs to be changed now. And after they click it the damage will be done, so the mechanic will have your car jacked-up with the oil filter out.

It's easy for office to accept older version BUT make it mandatory to convert them (they did it with the move from Access 97 to Access 2000). SO people can still import their office stuff, and move their ICQ number and address book over and their you go. After the whole 9-11 most mainstreamer are scared, through in the whole ID theft in America consumers are starting to scream for security, and here is MS promising all that, but in order for them to do it they need to take control of the Hardware to ensure we get quality products and the best security. A small military incursion in Somalia, some bombing in Iraq, some bombing in Serbia leading to another small military incursion in the Balkans, and some missiles lobbed out in Afghanistan.

    1) Do you know how many military people are involved to get those done? Most people think that if you send 20 aircraft somewhere you only need 100+ people, when the truth is you need about 100/aircraft.

smaller military is encouraged to avoid military interventions AND THAT IS GOOD

    2) In a democracy yes, we can you politics until we turn blue. Obviously that isn't working with Israel and Palestine.

The military is an insurance policy

    3) In America where we mix capitalism and democracy you are right, we just but other countries businesses.

Where was the proof that Saddam has WMD and their use was imminent? Where was the proof that Saddam was running Al Queda?

    4) Well since we haven't had weapons inspectors or any other sort of observation we don't know, we do know they had them during the gulf war, but America could not go in at that time to get them. No one ever said he is running the al-Queda, just that he is helping them with shelter and money.

Since it looks like the Bush administration does not know where to pick its fights.

    5) well blame the American people more than Bush, because that is what he has. IN all of the polls the people support him. If they wouldn't he would tone down his energy for attacking. But then again it is all political.

And as far as being the worlds policemen, well if we would have let the Balkans get out of hand they would still be fighting.

We can in a way blame our selves for the whole Afghan thing because we gave them bombs, missiles, and guns to fight the Russians, and when it was over we just left them in destruction and helplessness. Not like the other wars we were involved with when we helped to re-build and Iraq is not a case because we are still at war with Saddam.
