And why would it be so great to have them back? I just don't see why we they are spending so much money to try to bring back a dead animal, is it an ego thing? Do they think the new hybrid can help us out some way? I just don't think we should be treading in this kind of water.
How right you are-BUT if you_own_ 80% of the desktop market anyway who will stop you? The DoJ uses nothing but MS on their computers so why shut them down? Besides we have all seen from MS's "new" EULAs that they can tailor it to there needs while making the end-user bow down. It's like suing the gas companies for having a monopoly on the gas-turbine engine...99% of the would use it.
Well to some degree. The Chip makers are playing the numbers game we all know it. They will try to tell the consumer that 1.6 GHz is better than 1 GHz because there is a 600 MHz advantage. Most NEW computer buyers don't even know what a Hertz is besides a rental car company! The little companies are a bit pissed because the "Big Guys" are winning the money from ignorant consumers by making them believe only the numbers matter not the applications or even the OS!
On a paranoia side I could see the risks. Given that now they are implementing this system with all the abundant technology out there to exploit it. When our- the American system was made there where not so many intense DB's and the sort out there. Hell most government agencies can't talk to each other let alone track some one decently. I think the trouble will be with a powerful DB already up and ready to use this information which should also make data mining a bit easier than now.
Your right it did cause a slight dip in stock, but since MS does not pay out any dividends on their stock "it's just a flesh wound." Their stock will bounce back again to around normal prices-unless they have an out fall like Enron or WorldCom but I don't think that will happen.
I dunno who said it but...What do you want 200,000 scipts kiddies or 2,000 true hackers? And we are not only talking about the hackers in America but all over the world.
We all know that from the ages of the C=64 they have always said "This is copy proof." We have yet to see something that is Copy Proof.
Please bump the CPU up to atleast a 68020 and but Debian or something on it, BUT dont put a new mobo in it and call it an Amiga 1000! Those people should be shot! It's like loading a Linux distro and only putting VMware on it running Win 2K but still calling it Linux!!!
Mostly of the Congressmen/women that are voting on this just barely know how to use the computer for e-mail and other projects. They only know what MP3's are because their kids or lobbyist have told them. They are trying to lineup their pockets with the info the lobbyist are telling them. Don't forget this is also some great cannon fodder for them to get other things through too!
Dont forget that if you are a true geek you can also change the compresion ratio with a new kernel compile! You could also take the extra bloat out so you can increase you HP by about %15!
Well actually "Putana" means bitch. So that mean Putana Madona, but they use Porca madona because it sounds better. They do infact use, well women use "Porca Eva" Calling Eve a pig because she ate the apple.
Well hate to tell you but the average computer user does NOT read/.. Just look at all the AOL users. So the average person 18+ years old, wants e-mail, internet, e-greeting cards, wordprocessing, and downloadable media like.asf,.rm, and so on. The Love bug and a few others scared quite a few AOL and like subscribers that have no freaking clue on what they can do with a computer. You can argue the technical aspect as to why YOU don't think M$ could pull it off, but then again what is the ratio of/. readers or even Linux users compared to AOL users? Trust me the market potential is out there, and M$ is trying everything to get it, they have the money and the research to do it, so don't dismiss it as impossible.
Well think about it. Bioware just make the game. Infro is publishing it. So they kinda have to bend with the publisher to get the game out. And we all know most game buiz come's from windows. Since it has been delayed soooo long they decided to release it before too many people get pissed. So they opted to produce the binaries later. Beside if you look at the change log of the updates you will notice that they are indeed working on the linux version as well.
Tells you who you're dealing with--and what they're doing. Palladium is all about deciding what's trustworthy. It not only lets your computer know that you're you , but also can limit what arrives (and runs on) your computer, verifying where it comes from and who created it.
Well they could verify who made it...if they are using the same system!
* Protects information. The system uses high-level encryption to "seal" data so that snoops and thieves are thwarted. It also can protect the integrity of documents so that they can't be altered without your knowledge.
I think I could do this with a simple script, and don't forget the permissions, or if I feel realy paranoid I could use pgp.
* Stops viruses and worms. Palladium won't run unauthorized programs, so viruses can't trash protected parts of your system.
It's called permissions pall! Don't run as root all the time. Could this also be done by just thinking of what you want to install. Oh if you wanna talk about the 'other' stuff that's installed when you use say-kazaa or something, that's you fault for using it.
* Cans spam. Eventually, commercial pitches for recycled printer cartridges and barnyard porn can be stopped before they hit your inbox--while unsolicited mail that you might want to see can arrive if it has credentials that meet your standards.
Personally I just set up a filter and my computer won't even download the crap.
I think it still just comes down to choice. I'm sure that Wal-Mart will put some kind of label/warning/info about the Linux machines to warn users of the incompatibility with MS products. But this does give a great edge to those kids in high school that are learning linux/unix. Instead of messing-up mom and dads' computer they can get a $400 linux box and do what they want.
I think Wal-Mart would want to limit the number of returns since that costs extra money.

We're [America] more well known for our R&D efforts contributing to the latest in technology.
Well I agree with the first part saying Asian is better suited for cheap manufacturing, BUT America is not so hot in the R&D department. Sure we might have some stuff, but I think Europe and Asia are beating America in this too!
And these two have stopped many big businesses in America from securing their share of the market so investors will not sell their stock because they didn't get the big bucks.
If you believe that I have some ocean front property in Arizona I'll sell you REAL cheap!
You should have seen it happening. Think about it 3-4 years ago the companies could not even dream of just how much business they would get. They didn't care; they wanted an easy cash source. But when the PC market popped off, they kind of knew it, but just wanted to wait. We have so many people now that barely know how to use a PC, but they can d/l all the crapp they ever wanted. And yes the companies want to make as much money as possible without investing into it. So I don't see the light for the future. These companies are holding back the innovation like some one stated
You all should now by now that these people will do anything to show you their product! Hmmm I have not seen such problems, oh that?s because I don?t use a d/l manager written by a company that wants to make money. As bad as it sounds we should expect that these advertisement terrorists will try everything to get you to see their great product. We all have a choice of which software to use, so don?t complain to me.
And why would it be so great to have them back? I just don't see why we they are spending so much money to try to bring back a dead animal, is it an ego thing? Do they think the new hybrid can help us out some way? I just don't think we should be treading in this kind of water.

Not to mention M$ takes a loss for every hardware unit sold.
Well if you think about it they lose even more money by NOT selling it. ;-P

This is a great tax write off for them, just think of what they can claim per chip, and the R&D cost.
What is so funny here is that people were bitching because there was not enough info, now they're bitching because it's too much. When will it end?
I dunno who said it but...What do you want 200,000 scipts kiddies or 2,000 true hackers? And we are not only talking about the hackers in America but all over the world.

Well it can't belong to the UN because not every country belongs to the UN.
So how much more will tuition cost? Will it be proportional to the bandwidth used?
Dont forget that if you are a true geek you can also change the compresion ratio with a new kernel compile!
You could also take the extra bloat out so you can increase you HP by about %15!
Or you can just move to another country, but then again it will take a couple of years for it to catch up.
Well actually "Putana" means bitch. So that mean Putana Madona, but they use Porca madona because it sounds better. They do infact use, well women use "Porca Eva" Calling Eve a pig because she ate the apple.
