Is it a matter of ego(expressing talent) in different forms?

Your programmer has the ego of, "Im THIS talented, I can get this many polygons on screen, scrolling in this many directions. come and see my talents!"

whereas your writers/artists' egos take the form of "you have to PAY me for my talents!"

or maybe its more of a learning thing. You can improve your skills programming wise (on a measureable scale) whereas writing cannot be improved(or at least measured as improved) as easily

I may be totally off, this is an OPINION from a programmer (never a good combination)

Well in my opinion, I'd say the GP32 is good, nice and fast, with a big screen. *But* the GBA really REALLY makes up for the slow processor with all its hardware functionality (tile modes, sprite scaling rotation etc) which makes it really easy to write stuff for the GBA

I'd like to think the PSP would be good to write for, but with UMD I'm wondering how long it will be before we can actually put anything on there. Hopefully it wont be as complicated as the PS2 to get some real power out of it

I have no expierence with Palm stuff though so cant comment on that

  8. Bugs are relative to size.. on The Rise Of Bugs In Console Games · · Score: 1

You can't expect games not to have bugs in them these days. If you(the publisher and/or consumer) want all the features they want, they have to be written. Games take 2 years or so to develop now, they have HUGE levels, HUGE amounts of animation, very complex hardware (ps2, pc), huge amounts of SDK's to go through, each system has its own sets of interface rules to adhere too, plus, you need to add STUFF into the game.

All games released have loads of bugs, theres some big ones in jak and daxter, and even in ratchet and clank (which is like, the most optimised PS2 game there is), theres numerous places where mario can get through walls, etc etc

now, you spend say, the last 3+ months of work fixing bugs on a game, unless, lets face it, some games are rushed (ie. those in the topic)

everyone leaves bugs in their games, these people clearly forgot to fix some of the more important ones. I'm guessing very strict deadlines got in the way. Not that its the developers fault, nintendo, sony, and microsoft all do extensive checks before letting a game through. (unless your EA, who are allowed to bend the rules... but thats anotehr topic entirely)

The gameplay may be good, but its nothing new. And if it is new, it wont be making a profit

  11. The consumer dictates on Graphics Do Not Gameplay Make? · · Score: 3, Interesting

Please, we all want to make great gameplay games, but many factors bring us down. (publishers)

We need good looking games, or the games are written off by the public as not good enough. Liscences go along with this to an extent. (If its not a liscence its a sequel)

New titles, and ugly games dont sell. If the people in the street *bought* more non-sequels and non-liscenced games, and perhaps some of the uglier games we could do what we wanted when we make games!

I think (unfortunetly) the games industry has gotten to a point where you have to live up the standards, and not just anything will sell.

Work on a good looking game, mimicing something else, add a feature, then if that goes okay, make a sequel and start adding more of your own "original" ideas. (at which point you become one of those sequel and non-original types)

I dunno, if you sign a brand to a particular group sony would probably be best

Nintendo dont deal well with 3rd party titles any more, you dont know how long microsoft will be around, although I'd suspect at least one or more generations, but they just dont have the market shared. You just plain cant trust EA.

Sony have the market share, and now that theyre stronger and more expierienced than when the playstation was around, they have started to look into gameplay details like nintendo used to

Is there really no difference between mario sunshine, halo and grand theft auto?

If this was 1994(with the same amount of titles availible), people would be complaining about day of the tentacle being just another hugo clone.
Same with discworld, sam and max, lure of the temptress.
