The 2GHz UltraSPARC III would run around $20,000 where the 2GHz PPC 970 will go for around $5,000.
Kiss your ass good buy Sun. The only area left they can screw is the E10000 market and the clustered XServes will surely be able to do this soon as well.
This is a red letter day for Apple (well Monday will be). It's kind of like 1983/84 superbowl commercial.
Does anyone find it ironic that the company Apple was battling so hard in the mid 80's is now their chip supplier? Lol, I love the computer industry. Yesterday's enemy is todays ally.
I do to. Didn't the bible say God created the heaven and earth? Come on now you skientists, quit trying to further your agenda of helping everyone go to hell.
It's amazing how people can believe in God but also believe in the scientific method. Considering they directly conflict with one another. Oh well, it's off to hell I go...
He obviously doesn't have a damn clue. Anyone who thinks doing anything that is regulated where one missed message (a la Martha Stewart) causes jail time/fines, is a trivial thing to do is a fool.
Go ahead, bet your billion dollar a year business on logging AIM/MSN messages via a "shell script".
I'm buying a copy for myself and every friend that has a mac and will play it. I have a lot of unix savy friends that love OS X, me included. Games are generally an after thought when you work an average of 80 hours a week. I'm really looking forward to getting a 64bit laptop that doesn't kill the pocketbook (a la the tadpole ones with ultra sparcs). Hurry up with the 970 Powerbooks!
I have NWN for PC already and have downloaded the Linux files as well. I was disappointed that the mac/linux versions weren't gold at the same time, but the reality of the situation is 99% of gamers use the PC or a console.
I've got both of these and they are great. Be prepared for some major in-depth subject matter.
If my personal company ever takes off I'll probably hire a few (5-10) people to work on a linux derivitave that is similar to OS X. Not in look and feel but in the way they took a good existing OS and put a very user-friendly layer on top of it. After getting that working I'll try to get them to integrate a VM like VMWare into the OS so running Windows programs will be like running native programs (obviously we'll have to include a windows license).
I'm assuming then that he and you put it on your resume. Just like the other guy said most college students come out with effectively zero experience. That is why I had 25 interviews my junior year (first semester) and was hired before my senior year started (over 15 job offers) and my best friend who copied my resume exactly (removing the "actual" experience I had) had 3 interviews his entire senior year and had zero job offers.
If you can show you are willing to bust your ass in college instead of drinking every night, playing CounterStrike and downloading warez/mp3s of Kazaa, your experience won't be zero.
However, programming in QBasic on a DOS based system when you were 9/10/11 doesn't show a damn thing about what you can do now.
I programmed on my Apple//e when I was a kid in BASIC and my best friends dad taught us how to do some programming (that's what he did for a living). It's still not on my resume.
You were writing real-world mission critical apps at 9? Doubtful.
Maybe you were writing 10 " loves " 20 goto 10
Saying you have 11 years experience programming is like the applications on Monster.com that say "8 Years.Net Experience". Bullshit.

I'll list them in order: DOS - 2 days Windows 3.x - 2 days (trumpet winsock) Windows 95 - 2 days Linux 0.98 kernel slackware - 6 months Solaris 2.6 - 2 weeks OS 9 - 1 day OS X - 1/2 day
So overall it took 6 months, 2 weeks and 9 1/2 days. All subsequent releases seem to be pretty much extensions more than new operating systems (with the exception of linux which has improved exponentially since I got started on it in around '95).
Linux took me a long time to catch onto. OS 9/X are simple. Hell, who cannot operate a 1 button mouse?
If they cannot spend the two days it takes to figure out 99% of how to run a Mac they should be fired. It's not like it's linux or something that is *more* difficult to admin than windows, it's significantly easier.
I am a software engineer and I use DOS, Windows (DOS based and NT based), Solaris (2.6, 7, 8, 9), Linux (2.2, 2.4 kernel based), OS 9 and OS X. There are more similarities between these systems than differences.
I guess the line should be "Schools turn down computers because IT support staff is either too lazy or too stupid to figure out how to use a computer that most 4 year olds can use."
Just get business class dsl (SBC) and request extra IP Addresses, it's a one time charge. I have 5 IPs and wish I would have gone ahead and got the extra 16 they made available. Now I can only add more contiguous(sp?) addresses by changing my IPs. I'm too lazy so I just keep it the way it is.
Reasons for war were not fictitious, they were Oil, Oil, Oil, and did I say Oil?
If you don't believe the war against Iraq will increase the desire of militant Islamic groups to attack the USA as a result of us attacking an independent Islamic Nation on a foundation of WMD that have not been proven, you need to pull your head out of the sand. Did you ever stop to think why they are so pissed at us already (see former policies, wars, etc...)
It wasn't a train wreck (the economy) when GWB took office. It was in for a downturn. However, by causing federal revenue to drop significantly and the forced cut back on government jobs, he greatly assisted the free fall we are now experiencing.
President GWB has spent more money than any of the last 16 presidents in one fiscal year. 500 billion dollar deficit shows that to be true.
Lol Spending on Human Resources somehow equates Education, Social Services, Health, Medicare (btw these are all the same thing! lol), and Social Security? I guess making shit up is good. How about the most recent cut in veterans benefits by 14%???? Hmmm.....
I'll be tired of the "same old class warfare arguments" when the government is representative of the people, not the corporate contributors.
Syntax is difficult when you're first learning because you can easily isolate a simple program down to it's core functionality. Learning how to implement that pseudo-code in a real language can be daunting. A good reference helps.
C programming isn't difficult, it just requires attention to detail (same with Java, C#, C++, etc...). VB is a sloppy language. I do a significant amount of work on Linux and Windows systems. My first choice on Windows is VB (quick and dirty). My first choice on Linux is Java. For web apps it follows the same pattern, Windows/ASP Linux/JSP. If I had my choice I'd do everything in C/C++. However since there is always a time constraint I am forced to choose speed of development over the time necessary to make a stable implementation in C/C++. Granted this is largely due to my experience. However, I've worked with some pretty intelligent people who were C/C++ developers for years and they all seem to prefer Java by a significant margin.
People are fuckwads. Welcome to the world, nice of you to catch up.
How do you think the republican party gets votes? They appeal to fuckwads. How else would someone vote for a person who has the intention of bankrupting the government while attacking sovereign countries? People are fuckwads. (for some reason my spellchecker suggested duckwads! lol)
Cutting taxes does cost the government money (it is income right?).
I guess you would chip in for your public derived benefit of national defense if we had no taxes.
Not all Republicans are corrupt and not all Democrats are worth a damn either. I'd say 99% of Republicans are worthless and about 50% of Democrats.
I guess the $500 Billion dollar deficit isn't an expense? How about bankrupting Social Security, Medicare and the Government in a short 3 years? Fucking pathetic. Oh BTW George Bush has spent more than the last 16 presidents by more than 50%, he just did it through deficit spending instead of real income (taxes).
