if you look at the top left corner of the palm unit, it looks super-imposed, and the blurring around the bottom half looks fake-ish too. It could be natural, but I side with the poster that it looks like photoshop lent a hand to this picture.
So...Spielberg realized, like the rest of us, that ol' Georgie is doing terrible terrible things to his movies, and tried to step in to save the new trilogy. Alas, Georgie is blinded by insanity and power.
You will get a small fraction of polite people that simply forgot to turn their device to silent. All the other polite people will have already turned theirs off.
Then theres the small fraction of people who REALLY need to leave their device on. They, like the polite ones, have already taken care of this.
This leaves the jerks. They will whine/bitch/lie and won't turn their phone off.
Result? Same as it is now, without spending the money on the detectors.
Actually, if you're going to argue that Adams only had one great work, you should push for the radio series. The radio series was brilliant, and was really the foundation for everything else. Personally I like all the books except mostly harmless, which had some good bits but overall seemed to be DA desperately trying to put a VERY final stake in HHG so he wouldn't be asked to write any more of them. I think he might've actually said that at some point...
And as a billionaire, he could be the best super hero ever, super rich like batman but super powered like spiderman! Imagine spiderman with "those wonderful toys"!
dont forget squant from a few years back. It was a pretty cool hoax, there were pictures of various squant (the new color) colored things that you couldnt see without a new RGB-Squant monitor.
There was even a plugin for your browser to allow it to approximate the appearance of Squant.

So, is Softfield doing their own thing with this? Or has Agenda kicked the bucket and forgotten to update their web page?
[QVC GUY]: How can the savings be THISPHENOMENAL?? how can Softfield undercut Agenda by nearly ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS??
These guys have obviously never heard of Fan Fiction. I wonder what they'd do if we mentioned lemon fan fics?
Seriously though, some of the best Star Wars videos I've seen have followed these lines. Ever see TROOPS? It was excellent.
I agree that its just one more neon sign flashing "sell-out" to tack onto George Lucas' Motel of Movies. And I'm still going to go see all the rest of the star wars movies, because who can't??. Star Wars is burned into my brain along with Indiana Jones. George Lucas knows he owns us, and there's little we (or at least I) can do about it.
Not only privacy for organizations but privacy for citizens too. Currently the BSA could care less if a private citizen warezed a $50 software package, businesses mean money.
I'm concerned about the point where an individual gets sued - and since $50 bucks wont pay for the lawyer, all sorts of bullshit about damages and losses comes up.
And its the RIAA and Microsoft and Disney and just about every other conglomerate out there that would like to see this level of privacy invasion for everyone.
The catch is that piracy is, actually, wrong. So they're legally valid to want to do this, and they really want to because they don't trust consumers. In return, we certainly dont trust them, especially not to monitor our activities.
So we need the BSA to trust us to quietly continue pirating behind their back, and in return we'll trust them to keep their mitts off our computers.
Thats perfectly acceptable behavior for a science fiction setting. You want the viewer to be coaxed into the world, to bring the shock that much closer to home. For that, realism is tantamount. Although the viewer could suspend their disbelief and get on with the movie it's not really their job. When you imply that the movie is a 'present day' setting you should do everything possible to support that appearance.
I wonder what reason they had for not hiring a technology director or somesuch silly title to maintain realism - they have continuity editors for a similar purose. Did they consciously say "Yeah, we know its improbable, but we need it to push the plot!" ? Or did it just not occur to them?
The only data transmission method I can do faster than typing is talking. A revolutionary input device will have to not only be easier to use but be faster and more efficient too.
Are you kidding? The pentagon is paying 400 bucks a pop for toilet seats! I bet the whole thing cost at least a few thousand. I bet they weren't even heated either.
74th birthday party! Everyone will be invited!

As soon as I saw the big ol' crowd of movie people, with the grand poobah officiating the ceremony to tell them which of them were the finest, most respectable of their bunch, I thought of a giant hobbit party.
My suggestion would be that the left (non dominant for everyone except "my" people) is given one control, while the right, more dexterous side, is given more controls. Therefore you have a controller with a d-pad on the left and 2-20 buttons on the right.
At the university I work at, all forms of connection sharing are banned by network services. Because they associate specific users with specific IP addresses, anything that allows more than one user to access an IP is a possible security problem. Is the problem that you were running a wireless access point specifically or was it that you were running a switch that happened to be wireless?
All I wanted to do was wake up this morning (late) and read my MegaTokyo. But NOooo, someone had to be trendy and make a frickin reference to MT on Slashdot!

The obvious answer is to fit big television screens showing what is going on outside, making every seat a window seat.
Yeah. Real obvious. except that it would be DUMB. That'll tack on quite a few dollars to your ticket, as well as take up too much room.
What they really need to do is give the whole plane a glass bottom. Then every seat is a window seat...when you look down.

My first thought when I saw this scene was If we can hear the dial tone, why couldn't we hear mary jane talking?
He is referred to as Eeyes "chief hacking officer".
