I am 20 making more now than most of my friends will be making two years from now when they get out of college...oh...and I don't have the debt.
All I have my A+ cert and a lot of experience. If kids don't think that getting an associate or certificate program at a Community College can get them a job then they are dead wrong.
The great thing is that they don't have to stop after that. After getting a lesser degree in comp. sci or a certificate through a program they can continue their education (what I am doing now). My company will pay for 100% of my tuition and any other certifications that I want to get. If I get my net+, security+ and CCNA then in another two years of experience here I can go out and get an even better tech job etc...
If they don't believe you - send them to Robert Half's Technology division.
I gave them my resume on a Mon. and had two job offers through them by Fri.

If they manage to get out a Metroid, F-Zero, Zelda and Mario game at launch I would buy it and this is coming from someone who owned every console up to the Dreamcast. After the Dreamcast it was all about who can make the shiniest clone.

I have a netgear wireless "router"
It supports WEP....64bit....the cards support 54bit....wtf....

My parents tried to shelter me and it did not do any good at all. I am 20 now working as a technical analyst making more than most people with a college degree do and you know what? I still dont talk to my parents. Hiding me from the world did no good at all and while it is one thing to hide porn from your 8 year old it is another to stop a 14 year old.
How many right wing ultra-conservative christian parents do you think are going to try and stop their 16 year old from playing something or watching something or going somewhere and end up with resentful offspring later. My little brother just turned 18 and is going to Case Western and doesnt speak to my parents either. Point is - we were never some crazy mommy and daddy have to take care of us kids. We were always very independant and responsible but when you hold down your child or are that protective of them you don't do them any good.
You make them feel like they did something wrong or that they can't be trusted. It took me until I was 18 to be comforatble with my sexuality and in social situations
