    Most with an LED display have them. Usually it scrolls some 'buy me, I can do blahblahblah' msg, and a clued store will set it on. But you can do it to your friend's new microwave oven if you want to annoy them. The manual will tell you how to do it.

    Mount 16 SPST mini toggle switches on the case. Wire them in series to pass AC or 12v or whatever when they are in the ON position. But mount some of them upside-down. 64k possible combinations, and no case mod is cooler than a row of toggle switches that actually do something.

    Actually, keyswitches are a better idea. That might help you fight the urge to flip the toggles when the machine is running.

    Kids do not need laptops! It might make sense if all their textbooks were loaded on the system, but I bet that will not happen. They could have a 386 at home running Win 3.11 and use Write to eliminate the 'dog ate my homework' excuse if that's what they're after (Bruce Green ate my homework - say it out loud).
    What is it with schools now, having kids do reports with PowerPoint or making awful websites? Is this supposed to help them become middle managers or bad web designers or something?

    If a large number of /.ers were to run a short script that tried to resolve random nonexistent domains, how long would it be before the root servers crashed?

    Don't forget, YOU would not have done anything but asked your ISP's DNS for info. IT will be the one /.ing the root servers.

    Not that I suggest you do this.

    The original question (which was modded as Troll for some reason) was: if this is a *state* government site, why is it a .gov, which *used* to be US gov only? If every government entity in the US starts using sites like dogcatcher.gov, it's just going to confuse people. dogcatcher.sanfrancisco.ca.us is a hell of a lot more informative.

    The DNS is just going to hell, isn't it?

    The PDP-11 my roommate had ran on 110vac. It did not have the typical household 110vac connector, though. I ran the line to the distribution box, thinking it was 220 because of the plug.

    Fortunately I took a close look at the power supply before I hooked everything up. :)

    Choose a word you won't forget. I'll use 'slashdot'. Now, hit the key *next* to each letter - 'woqwye95'. This example uses the key above and to the left. You can use some other positional encoding like up-right-bottom-left in sequence or interlacing the letters with the number in the same column - "s2l9a1s2h6d3o9t5". Just pick one method and stick with it, and you can choose a dictionary word to start from.

    Don't tell anyone what method you use.
