1) divide your eggs in at least two baskets, thoughtfully designed to protect their integrity 2) keep your baskets in physically isolated locations 3) take steps to protect your eggs from theft 4) after retrieving your eggs, inspect them for tampering before using them in your souffle 5) purchase insurance for the off chance you get yolk on your face
We've been looking to hire senior level networking engineers with linux experience (or vice versa) but the skills of the applicants coming in is depressingly low. Sure they've worked for some big names and attended lots of corporate BBQs, but it seems they haven't pulled much out of the experiences. Maybe the bubble has generated people who think they don't need to know anything but still be valuable?
Are you looking for such a job in Silicon Valley? Figure out my contact info and hit me up.
Seriously where is the "we own anything you make" clause buried deep in some ULA. Seasoned combatants don't suddenly switch sides so if MS is "embracing" open source then there is surely some angle they are trying to exploit for more M$.
I hate it when journalists and general outsiders feel they have the authority to coin cutsie words for areas of research they know absolutely nothing about.
I find Sony's tactics deplorable and am offended by their pompous arrogance and complete lack of remorse. They have/are taking advantage of the good faith vendor-consumer relationship and don't deserve my business anymore. Screw em I have other options.
Please don't equate the CCNA and CCIE certification. They are so far apart that the curvature of the earth keeps them from seeing each other. There are probably less CCIE's then there are neurosurgeons.
I'm scheduled to attempt getting mine in San Jose on Friday.
It's so frustrating how often people or groups with great political power but little technical insight frequently force changes without the capacity to truly weigh the risks involved. So very bad things continue to happen unnecessarily.
Case in point: The US publicizing advanced engineering documentation on how to build a nuke because some shmuck, who didn't grasp the consequences, ordered it posted thinking that somehow it would help his political party.
As technology becomes more ingrained in our lives, politicians will salivate even more over the being able to claim party to any major breakthroughs. There is more or less a separation of church and state in most countries. Can't we do the same with technology?
I concur that this is a lousy promotional post. Therefore I'd like to make sure everyone knows the trick of putting failed/failing hard drives in the freezer for a few minutes. For reasons unknown to me, it normally gets them running long enough to pull the important data off them. If you're tempted to send a failed drive to a recovery company, try this first.
Some of us remember when processors cost $600 and their clock speeds would DOUBLE every 6 months? Now those were depressing, then exciting, then depressing times.
Surely the heat source, not the rocking motion caused by waves, will be the biggest energy input into the system. Evaporation rate is primarily a function of temperature, pressure and surface area so one can postulate that the units would be more effective the larger they were. This would increase both the surface area and maximum obtainable head pressure (depth of the chamber baffle multiplied by the density of water).
What if the devices pulled deep ocean water where combustible gasses, such as ammonia, will bubble out?
In college I did some research at the USEPA in Cincinnati on Cryptosporidium Parvum, a waterborne pathogen that causes tremendous diarrhea. The only way to grow them is in the gut of a neonatal animal (or human). We opted for mice and calves and this poor guy did nothing but scoop up cow poo and separate out the oocysts. For mice they would "homogenize" then separate the entire intestinal tract. What was really weird for me was that I would occasionally go and pick up a small 5ml vial that represented about a month of poo duty.
Having worked in the Federal sector I have to chuckle at this. The sad truth is that most of the gov't IT employees I've encountered are only capable of producing at levels equivalent to those in the private sector who earn about 50% less. Factor in the bureaucracy-induced ineffectiveness of 40% and you've got a net waste of about 90%. So what if they're surfing the web during extended periods, it's not the root cause and consequently isn't going to impact anything.

Why not store the wafers for a few years before selling them as scrap? Does anyone really care about yesterday's outdated chip designs?
Such a blatant (and incompetent) attempt at deception of the US populace by a senior official in our government should be regarded as treason.
Please see one of my favorite quotes below.
It should clearly reside in the "well duh" catagory.

... Because my memory is good and I remember the crap Sony inflicted upon us.
Sheep we are apparently.

Yes folks, computers use significantly less energy while displaying the blue screen of death. Microsoft saves the earth...

This is a bargain considering to purchase HD-DVD and Blueray drives individually would easily cost $1700 or more.
Portland cement, or flyash, is a byproduct. The argument that it costs more pollution than it adsorbs is misguided at best.

Didn't Seagate make a big deal about their Momentus FDE drives about 18 months ago? When are we actually going to be able to buy the damn things?
honestly, is this news?
Leave it to a squirrel to condense the problem into a 2 minute rant. http://www.illwillpress.com/cds.html/

Wonder if he intentds to pack his vintage Star Trek uniform and bang out some one liners when up there. Maybe bring home a pet Tribble?
