I haven't played a SE, but I have heard the same thing you are saying. Great quality beyond what they are charging. I had a 94 CE 22 that I sold due to hard times, but recently got a custom 24 10-top in black:)
I'd put it above anything gibson has put out in years.
I was looking to make this point too..and anyone who plays a non korean (or even the korean) PRS knows that it might look similar to a gibson, but it's MILES above anything gibson is putting out now.
This is another case of a company who can't compete suing for income.
Mod this guy up. Apple wireless in Leopard is shit-tastic. "It just works"(tm) should have been retired with 10.3. I have a macbook pro sitting on my desk, but the OS has gone downhill (IMHO) since 10.3.
Suppose you run out of one color of ink, and your prints all have a yellow cast. I think in that situation it would report you were out of ink and you'd throw away the cartridge.
On the other hand, there's no reason that should happen with black. Unless it's a photo printer doing black and whites that has part of it's gray system used.
Things may have changed since I last bought a printer, but epson was the least evil back then. You could buy generic cartridges for the printer, you could even refill your real cartridges without them reporting empty or faulty like the HP ones do. I think what bothers me most is how HP is trying to lower prices on laserjets and hike the prices on the toner. The toner was expensive enough before that happened. Running my 2550n (I think that's it's model) cost $110 x 4 for toner.
It is true that the PC version is faster than the Mac version on similar hardware in certain situations.
That's just wrong too.. It's faster in ALL situations. I have a new santa rosa based macbook pro and WoW runs at about 50fps (and dips to the 20s) with terrain distance 1/2 way. That's just about exactly the same as it ran on my powermac g5 with radeon x800.
On windows, it runs between 80 and 200 (yes 200) with all the same settings on OSX except I can move the terrain distance to full, still getting that framerate, and enable FSAA at 2x.
Whether or not directx has multithreaded anything, which I thought it did, my estimate is that I get double the framerate on windows XP as compared to OSX on the same hardware.
Sadly, it's the only way to resolve a real problem. I've, unfortunately, had to resort to this for 1) Powerbook that was DOA and in repair for 6months (I'm naive) 2)2 DOA Powermacs (the 3rd one worked!?) 3) Recently a family member needed a logic board replacement and is unable to carry the computer to the store.(an imac g5 that had the extended replacement due to defective capacitors).
It's not so impressive that executive relations actually fixes things.. It should be embarassing that you have to go that route to fix certain problems.
My small number of support call pool leads me to believe that their telephone support is a whole lot less patient with people who know nothing about computers. A fact my family member brought up when speaking to executive relations. Just my experiences and your mileage may vary.
Spend $1000,$2000, or $3000 to save $129? It's not like apple is going to release new hardware at the sametime as the OS. At least, I don't think they have historically. I mean, release the OS.. Some people will likely buy as you've suggested, but then you can milk it by waiting two or three months to release an updated model.
I think most people don't know when their hardware is defective. Imagine your mom dealing with a machine that cuts off randomly like the power plug has been yanked. Or how many people put up with modern BSODs, you can say what you want but they are very frequently hardware problems.
They might be good in consumer reports but *my* experience is, I've seen hundreds of thinkpads (not on defective from the factory) and about 8 Apple's where 1/2 were broken.
AMEN! I had a powermac I dropped off at that same store that was suffering from the sudden shutdown issue you'll find on some mac boards. (replacement systemboard + powersupply)I came back after 3 weeks to find it had looked like it had been dragged across a circuit board (you know that sharp soldier joints on the back) and for them to tell me "it couldn't possibly have happened in repair".
Just the last straw. I've had a powerbook (my first mac the old Ti) die right out of the box that kept going back to service for 6 months because when they fixed something, they broke something else. They eventually replaced it with the next level Ti powerbook that had the paint flaking issue. That powermac also had it's powersupply replaced once because they use cheap fans and they used to get loud after a perioud of time. Also still have a 12inch powerbook that had 3 hard drive replacements and has a slight wobble. You should look at their forums for the replacement batteries they sent out on the recall.. See how many people got batteries that don't even fit(mine too).
but will it find widgets by 'wdgt' in/Library/Widgets? Will it find files inside.app? I'm unimpressed with spotlight in it's current form, especially the widgets.
I hate to always be the guy that's contrary, but go get yourself an easynews account and hit alt.binaries.mp3.complete_cd. If I do this in Safari both of my processors go above 70 percent. I know my mac is good for somethings (drive crunching) but it's horrible for others (opengl performance, even with multithreaded opengl).
Sure he could put it in apple's bugreporter to be told it's a dup. Besides i think his point was that he wanted to create awareness to hopefully get it fixed. It's not like Apple hasn't known about a problem and avoided fixing it in the past right? Oh wait.
Anyone who looks at the apple discussion boards know that general questions about the hardware go in the Using forum, not the addons forum, display forum, or even general OSX forum. Best thing that happened to this bug is it got to/.
Obviously, they are struggling to keep up at the $400 price point. Plus, my reasonably decent gaming pc can't run games at settings that Gears of War appears to run at.
Like the iphone, for example.
as a former treo 700p user it's because.....
you don't have to reboot it 5 times a day and it doesn't have interface lag switching between networks.
Oh the web browser is actually useable.

ah what the hell.. guns, bombs, and cameltoe!
how the mozilla team is keeping up with speed in the nightlies w/o access to the hidden APIs?
is it really a solution to disable something and still have it drop twice... even at all?
Will it tell me how to fix wireless on leopard that 10.5.2 didn't fix?

It's like being abused in a bad relationship. Human psychology.

for one.. the article and sony announcement do not say "in the US", just shipped. As another person pointed out Sony is giving away 500,000 copies for registering your PS3 in europe. http://www.siliconera.com/index.php/2007/02/12/eur opean-ps3-owners-get-casino-royale-for-free/
for $100 extra a year.. on top of your applecare

Refer to my post above, see if you can get something scientific going.

The problem is when a product is old Apple wants to forget the ever made it. Oh sure when there is a class action lawsuit.
Sorry for the rant, I've given apple waaay too much money.

Apple, where being better than Dell is somehow a big deal.
Tack that on to a reproducible core audio bug that makes the new dvd player app crash on certain disks. Reported that one till I was blue in the face.
