All we got in this display was I bunch of dick waving.

What I find so curious about this, is government asking a business to go easy on a school. In Australia, because we have government run schools, the government would be the one to purchase the computer equipment and therefore the school would be left to, well, teach! Instead of being distracted by huge bills hanging over their heads and potentially compromising the quality of the tuition given to students.

You guys really need to stop fearing the services that could be possibly provided by your governments, like education, health cover (not insurance), but free health etc.

And before you go on the whole anti-socialist rant etc, remember that it is not free, in fact you are paying for it with your taxes, you should ask yourself, what exactly you pay taxes for, if not to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen. Our system is similar to that of Britain, Canada, France and others.

  5. It's all about the revenue on Wii's Longevity, Competition Questioned · · Score: 1

Whether or not a console has staying power, depends on whether 3rd developers/publishers can make revenue from the platform. If the attach is crummy on a platform, then the number of hardware units sold starts to become useless (note I'm excluding the first party titles from this argument).

If 3rd developers/publishers start to feel that a platform is not giving the return they expect, they might start moving higher risk games onto the platforms that do give them higher attach rates. Of course having a HUGE install base starts to hide low attach rates... so we have yet to see really :)

The article that is attached to this story is at least neutral, but the negative spin placed on the article by the editor in question is just plain childish.

Firstly, yes DVD discs are going to sell a shitload more because there are MORE DVD PLAYERS out there. I was an early adopter of DVD and I know how the slowly sales went for the first 2 years. They went up slowly. So saying something like "yeah we sell like 5 BDs to 1 HD-DVD, but we sold like 80 DVDs", should be met with a big "well duh! really?".

Secondly, regardless of which format dominates, the fact that they sell only 200 or 1000 a month (in which territory?), still means that the product is selling 200 or 1000 units a week, and this is not a failure (revisit first point), these items will be on sales for a very long time. So until everyone owns a HD disc player of some kind, you are not going to see massive sales.

    - Amped 3
    - Call of Duty 2

    - GUN
    - Kameo: Elements of Power
    - NBA 2K6

    - Quake 4
    - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
    - Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
    - Every Party
    - Tetris: The Grand Master Ace

This is what the PS3 had for launch (and for the year):

    - Untold Legends
    - Tony Hawk's Project 8
    - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
    - Ridge Racer 7
    - NHL 2K7
    - Need for Speed Carbon

  18. Sounds like JIT to me on PlayStation 3 Manufacturing Not Started Yet? · · Score: 1

A manufacturing method called Just-In-Time is popular among Japanese and worldwide companies. Look here for reference.

Basically, the strategy allows a company to avoid inventory costs and be more agile when it comes to shifting stock around territories (from ones that aren't selling to ones that are). Toyota use the method and I've seen it first hand. Basically you establish a small buffer (maybe a month before launch) and ship those launch territories, while keeping some in stock. You then watch your stock in those territories and produce units, just-in-time, to meet demand(in theory).

The DS has a wider variety of games, and other Software that appeal to broader demographics."

What does this have to do with fun games?

"Also you state the PSP has more games, but that doesn't paint the whole picture. The PSP currently has only 3 titles that sold over 1 million copies worldwide and the DS has 13. One of which (English Training) isn't even a game, so it wouldn't show up on Metacritic."

Brain training is on there... what is your point exactly. I don't care about units sold. I care about how much fun games seem to be for people of either machine. If game were "no fun" on the psp, I'd expect to see reviews all in the red. That is simply not the case.

    - There are 122 games released for the DS
    - There are 147 games released for the PSP
    - For the DS: 18 are bad, 69 are okay to good, 33 are great (backed up by media reviews and users)
    - For the PSP: 7 ar bad, 87 are okay to good, 52 are great (backed up by media reviews and users)

    Look it up:

    - The PSP has shipped(not sold) 20 million units worldwide
    - The DS has shipped(not sold) 21 million units worldwide

    etc etc etc.

Look, I have a PSP and I play the the games I have and they are fun. I'm starting to feel that the people that moan about game being crap on the PSP are complaining about the ripped pirated games they play on their 1.5 handhelds. You know, the ones missing assets, sounds, movies and models.
