"With the release of the Radeon 9800 and above, ATI is (arguably) finally catching up to NVidia in terms of quality graphics cards."

Wake up, ATI has been kicking Nvidia's ass since the release of the 9700 Pro which was quite a long time ago.

"I still like NVidia, I just hope their next card is better (and quieter) than the GeForce FX."

None of the FX's currently shipping are nearly as loud as the samples that were reviewed at one point and the FX 5200's usually don't even use fans.

Apparently some people can't do simple math and they still get modded up by everyone else who apparently can't do simple math either.

Common sense should tell you that running 1000 cpu's isn't going to cost you 3.2M/month as that would be $3200 a cpu a month, duh!

Like you said, it's actually $3274/month which wouldn't be a big deal for a company like Pixar.

  5. Another Cash Grab on Star Wars Galaxies Only to Allow One Character Per Account · · Score: 1

Sony did lots of things to encourage everyone to have multiple accounts in Everquest (later on, but not in the beginning). This is yet another way to make the game miserable for those with only one account. Sony even tried the Legends server idea to squeeze more money out of people (it was an expensive server with some rather trivial perks).

Get 3 accounts and make Sony happy. Personally I will chose not to play the game. I'll wait for the next game that's actually designed for the players and not just for the Sony coffers.

I have a friend who bought an Xbox and it stopped working after 5 months. He was told it would be at least $200 to fix it and apparently this is quite common.

Either find a reseller who's willing to warranty it for a year themselves or don't bother buying one, you've been warned.

The Linux version uses Opengl and the windows version uses D3D by default. Their Opengl code is a lot slower then their D3D code so the Linux version ends up being quite a bit slower.

If they focused on only doing an Opengl renderer it would be fast on all platforms, apparently only id understands this logic.

It's not a technical limitation (well not with my cable company anyways) it's something the cable company does to screw people who run programs like kazaa or any server programs for that matter.

I've got both cable and dsl here, I've had cable for a several years and the cable didn't used to have this problem. All of a sudden it started happening where if you were uploading to people your download speed was terrible.

My dsl connection doesn't suffer from this at all though, I can do max up/down at the same time no problems.

This is using shaw cable and telus dsl in victoria BC Canada for anyone wondering.

"pushing play on an MP3 the video display and the sound are not synched" This has to do with the sound being buffered in xmms, the video is rendered from samples as they are placed into the sound buffer instead of when you actually hear them. This has nothing to do with anything but xmms.
