Yes but can you use a video game console to remote administrate a server somewhere?
I know the PS2 has a linux kit and a keyboard, but i think you had to either use firewire networking or something else bizarre can't recall off hand. so, yeah, I'll stick to my PCs:) I love em:)
this is just an attempt to overturn fair use of broadcast data. Satelite and cable providers need to get their feet on edge, and fight this law tooth and nail, because in the end they're the ones who are going to be stuck paying the bill, while everyone else looses some fair use rights.
Copyright laws are already insane, like we need any more? and what's with the 50 years, the returns on older programming is quite limited, as the price has to be set low to attract interest in the product. TV Studios could find a lot of better ways to make money:)
don't let it worry you so much. Illegal music downloads are down, we have itunes music store, etc on the legal side, as well as numerous independant labels, and yeah the record labels were able to still manage to convince people to buy cds with illegal p2p sharing technology available.
c'mon most people are smart enough to know the difference between right and wrong, especially when you flash the message at them often enough. some of the japanese anime producers actually have some really awesome 'copying movies is illegal' anti piracy splashes, which make me laugh, and also make me glad that i rented the movie from netflix, so i could enjoy it. The series i'm thinking of is maho shopping arcade abenobashi, the anti piracy splashes are good enough to put just them up on p2p:) at least IMO. beside then you have the irony of pirating an anti-pirating spash. then again, maybe that's just me:) ah well, today has been a good day.
you can live your live in a cave with a rock covering the mouth in fear of the end of life, or you can embrace each day for all there is to enjoy about it. or you can just cry about all your sorrows and bitch about how much life sucks, whatever floats your boat man, it's not going to make a super virus infect the human race or whatever.
Personally the idea of floating colonies appeals to me not to 'flee' the earth, but simply as a platform from wich to launch giant mecha suits to have a massive war with the earth, no wait that's Gundam...
It's a cool technology, and space flight technology has gotten a lot cheaper, but in the end i think we're more likely to build giant space amusment parks complete with casino and brothel. afterall that's where the money is. But the technology has to mature and become afordable for people to fly into space for even that to happen.
Don't forget that amature porn is often done entirely at the expense of the porn stars themselves, with no cost in overhead. so while there are a lot of 'free' porn sites, and few people will admit to 'having bought porn' I know quite a few people who won't admit to it who have bought porn. and even more who've rented it.
As for major films that were done 'on a budget' clerks and the blair witch project come to mind. They show the low budget nature, but they're still good movie storylines. which is why unlike the thousands of movies you've never heard of they actually made nationwide releases.
of course we have independant film festivals and all that to help these kinda gems and the creative talent behind them to make it to hollywood.
ROTFLOL:) you are funny. Kids have been getting into dating using the internet for as long as I've been on the internet... and maybe a little longer. We're 14 years into internet dating, It's a reality, and with all the community sites and blogging out there, the internet is even starting to be used by bitter ugly trolls.
I'm actually quite an attractive guy, if only I got past my shyness and talked to people the way I know how to after years of chatting with people online. 12 years on the internet taught me more about people and the world around me than all my years in school. then again it might have helped if i didn't spend so much time in the library and avoiding everyone who tried to get me out of my shell.
Right now I'm learning to be the master of my own destiny, it's not that hard, But figuring out exactly what I want to do with my life is still a struggle. Just remember, that the theory goes, you're at most going to be six degrees of seperation from anyone else, no matter how important and powerful they are. Once you Know the path you wish to travel, and you've mapped the route, and you've planned the moves it will take to reach that goal... you can achieve anything. You just have to understand the reality of the situation well enough to understand... that there are only going to be so many bill gates in the world, and there are a lot of people determined to be there:)
So you really need to figure out first of all if that level of competition is your cup of tea, and second of all if you're going to be happy making it all the way to the top. Considering myself, I've already decided, that I can be anything in fantasy worlds I've created. But in reality I love a lot of things more than i love money, or power. I love the earth, I love my friends, I love having fun. "with great power, comes great responsibility" My track record shows that, at best, with a guiding hand from the people who love me I can manage to put out a lot of great ideas, that other people can use to make the world a better place.
As long as I have a time and place where I can go absolutely crazy:)
I'm really starting to believe that with a little more therapy, and a little more advice, I might just find the type of work environment where I can spend half of my time doing the hard work of planning, and calculating and executing well designed plans and half of my time just letting go of all my frustrations.
Until I'm sure that I'll be able to tell when it's time to let those frustrations go, and when it's time to plan for the future, well... at least I can practice, and get better every day. Afterall I don't have to be perfect, just aware of myself well enough to provide the kind of reliability and dependability an employer expects from an employee.
So all-in-one capabilities are great for you, fine, think about the people who are addicted to cable nests! What would they do without 16 different media players! I mean where will they go, if your Media Center future takes the cake, and ruins the component model forever?
I can see it now Datacenters nation wide announcing 'cable nesting' for the cablenestless.
In all seriousness though there is room for the ease of use media center concept, and the component model. Consider the past 100 years of radio and stereo equipment. I can go out to the radio shack or wherever and they _still_ sell radio equipment on the component model.:)
The problem is that Sony needed time to improve their fabrication process to keep foriegn buyers from shelling out $1,000 for a player that might have had a defective chip in it. While I guess you could call that a 'technical' problem, it's that you need to have certain production volumes to have enough 'good' chips. Early in the design phase if you sell way more units than expected, you wind up shipping out slightly inferior chips, which tested good but which have the kind of issues that can lead to burnouts etc.
The movie studios didn't want to launch blu-ray movies without evidence of a sucessful market, so they really made a situation where sony could only delay the global release of blu-ray. Hopefully all the delays will mean that early adopters will have a lot of top quality chips in their players, rather than shell out $1,000 for a movie player that would be obsolete a couple months later.
As to your sig, about more fans than freaks, the problem is that people in general only make people freaks because you've figured out what they really can't stand and then convince them that's what you are:)
Seriously to get my freaks list as big as it is I had to gripe about how evil I was for months on end, and have a big fight with a pillar of the community. Most of the people around here who go ahead and use freaks lists aren't the kind of people who can be convinced easily. There are so many intelligent people who see past deception, that you wind up with a bunch of fans even then.
I'm taking away the karma bonus on this post, cause it's both interesting and a meta discussion about internet trolling.
Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be.
Sure it's cool to mess around and figure out how to get vista to run on mac, but mac is cool because it runs OSX:)
I'm sure there are people who will buy the intel macs just to play around with this, but most people who buy macs will stick with thinking different:) Still, If I had a Mac I know I'd be tempted to play around and try to get vista running on it, just to say I had. Then I'd probabbly get sick of vista and go back to OSX, but that's me. everyone has their own way of doing things.
Remember, some people think that their every drop needs to go towards making babies.
thank god we're not all like that. but i can think of troubling social issues if sexborts were walking the streets. would the have proper self sterilization procedures? would the verify the age of the puerchaser of sex acts? would they leave heel shaped indentations as their titanium alloy frames strutted sexily along the boardwalk?
Perhaps the sexbot is better off as a home appliance, afterall. where we can hide our sexuality from everyone else as if it were evil or something.
Speaking of which, I need a new tinfoil hat, mine got busted.
I guess the silver foil i used in the weave was to think, having been delaminated from cheap cd-r's.
And don't forget to sleep... just make sure you can control the precise atmospheric gasses so you know they aren't blending in any mind control substances:)
They will try to keep you from sleeping because you're easier to pick off in a crowd if you're staggering around as if drunk.
slashdot is not just junk news, but i can inderstand why you'de feel that way.
there certainly is a lot of very very pointless news on slashdot, and this article is probabbly one of them, but still.. as far as if the truth is more important or less important that is harder to say. but to some of us the truth is important, to others they need to have their lies to make them feel all better.
ah well. the truth is out there. if you can handle it:) but people like fantasy and lies. fantasy is a little differen than lies because fantasy is somethign we can seperate from reality and say 'well that was just a fantasy' if you let the lines of fantasy and reality blurr then you start to run into trouble. and that's when people get in trouble. ah well.
That is the materialistic view. In the material sense, one can eat bugs and roots, drink stagnant water, sleep in a pile of filth... and no one could doubt that that is 'poverty' in the material sense. But I've seen some good documentaries of tribes in africa, and south america who were living that way. And while those films were heavily edited, but I didn't see people who were really 'living in poverty' so much as leading the happiest best lives they could given the available resource.
Poverty is a state of mind my friend, much more so than the 'material' resource you have access to. you should read the book of job, just to understand where i'm coming from. that story does a far better job of explaining how poverty doesn't have to relate to the physical reality.
Well, you might not want to 'officially' hire anyone that retarded, unless it was something that would benefit your corporate image.
OTOH, If you came across a really smart person, who you really thought wow, (s)he's the best. And they'd made mistakes, even boneheaded ones, you might still want to hire them.
not everyone needs to have a 6 figure digit salary to find happiness, so let's say hypothetically you knew of a guy who was really smart but had a questionable past. If that person only needed stuff that was easy to arrange, and they were working for free, or on an 'unspoken' agreement, that as long as they were doing good stuff for you good things that were easy enough to arrange would happen for them... kinda sounds like the mafia:) but still...
well let's look at this from a different angle. Let's say you were a 'concerned' party, interested in making people happier and more productive. and you knew there were people flaws, that were making it hard for them to find 'employment'. especially employment that they 'loved' doing every day. and you understood that happy people, are productive people, happy people work hard and give it all.
productive people boost the wealth of everyone, so if you were interested in becoming wealthy establishing a 'system' where everyone could consistantly be made happier, and more productive... with less negativity, and more positive energy... and there were no negative side effects, wouldn't you try to deploy such a system?
Corporate america struggles with that every single day, they try to create a working system that keeps people at their maximum productivity. while allowing them to be happy:) I worked for 3 years at taco bell under a manager who could really read how I was feeling. She wasn't the best store maanger, but she could really tell what to say to certain people. There were days where she had me moving over half the stores sales with just the aid of her assistant manager. and it wasn't some itty bitty fast food, either. we're talking the fast food right by the mall.
We're talking anywhere up to 300 orders* of food going out the window, in an hour. normally they would have to have like 3-4 people running a drive thru side doing that much vollume. And i never would have become that productive ever, without the manager who knew when to put me on drive and when not to. and when to have someone else help me, etc. and it took me at least 3 months of training to even be close to being ready to handle that volume, and i would have never lasted 3 months if my manager wasn't able to try and help me. eventually though i got completely negative about myself. Instead of taking the progress I had made, and finding a place to build upon that progress i locked myself in a feedback loop. the point is though, that as you can see with the right people, i'm capable of doing amazing things not even i thought i'd be able to do, until i did them.
And so, anyone who thinks they can do something with someone with a negative past, would be a fool to pass up the opportunity. They'd need to have the tools, and the understanding of the person's problems to really fully help them. but only a fool would say 'damn you posted nude pics on the internet so fu i'm not gonna hire you'
If they were boasting about how they'd done that, that's different. but you can still communicate your concerns to the person, and if they listen give them tests, and decide if they're going to work out or not. Preferably the testing and such would take place before the hiring, and be part of a hiring process... but heh.
*= a guess, when days were that busy i didn't stop to count, but we went through a lot or reciept rolls on driee side
Well I hadn't been paying attention to the homebrew community lately, so i found all the information about the GPx2 to be quite interesting.:) It would be really nice if could find a way to fit one in my budget, afterall I've loved emulation for a long time. I'm glad that some companies have even found ways to make legitimate money off emulation instead of it staying as an 'illegal' undergound kinda thing.
My keyboard is all screwy, and it took me a long time to type this. sigh. All i wanted to do today was relax:)
the distructive payload makes this malware a virus. Most malware simply has code to 'self destruct' the system if tampered with, disabled, or made unable to think it's able to access the internet.
Afterall most malware are exploits meant to make money off peoples computers. either through ad revenues, bulk mail sending, or formation of a 'botnet' which can be used for a whole slew of possiblities. a few pieces of malware try to steal data so that you can become a 'victim' of internet crime, which is why certain hackers intentionally load malware, so that the government can montior all their packet data and catch the law breaking crooks, or shut them down before they do a lot of damage to 'innocent' users who don't know any better.
In all my years on the internet I've learned that not every company that sends bulk mail is in the same class. We've got the opt-in bulk mailers, who focus on finding reasons for people to 'opt in' then we have the 'opt-out' companies who generate and use do-not mail lists. then we have the companies who just try to send so much stuff, that they can 'sucker' in everybody with all the fake offers, and scams.
It certaintly makes the world more interesting that we have so many different types of people, but it costs a lot of money when the 'criminals' get away with millions from the crime. Right now america has possibly the least amount of fraud, because of all the attention that's been paid to it by the various federal agencies and the 'war' that this administration is waging against 'terror' because they feel that the companies stealing money are perhaps using that stolen money to fun terrorist operations. Considering most of the crime traces back to africa, and africa has a lot of ties to 'terrorist' networks, the administration is probabbly right that the money could be being used for that. although there is also a lot of poverty in africa, but i've always believed that poverty is just a state of mind.
Even though i sometimes can get caught up on apperance, and wealth, but hey i grew up in america, which has the strongest economy in the world. So, to a certain extent that's to be expected. In my own personal life, with the exception of computers, i live very cheaply though. perhaps too cheaply, but that just means i've been less of a drain, since i haven't been getting paid other than the occasional odd job.
Yes, that's what's really cool, because i've seen my nephew use certain video sites before he just does a quick google search, loads the same video, Every time. he shows it to everyone, and loads it over and over again. just last weekend he loaded the same video 12 times in one day by my count. a couple of the people he showed liked it, but for the most part they were bored of it quickly.
because there are a lot of people who act like that the 'top 100' lists usually become the stagnant tripe that a handful of people who are 'easily amused' and have the free time to constantly reload the same content. having a page rank code that helps prevent that stagnation is very useful for videos, especially.
Actually, the second time it happened the admins (if they had a brain) could set a rule in the acess control software so anyone attempting to access any website containing that exact html code would get either a fake verion that did nothing, or an error page saying that the network was down or any number of approaches.
but since this student owned the proxy, he still could have played cat an mouse by changing the html code being produced, but that would require having access to the proxy webserver to alter the code being generated 'just enough' to bypass the access control software.
I'm not familiar with how to do this with any software other than squid, but it's quite easy to do... that's how virtually every phishing and identiy theft site works, so clearly there are a lot of people who know how to set up a transparent proxy to substitute html code with their own. although most phishing sites aren't 'transparent' enough to use a transparent proxy, but just this past week i came across a transparent proxy for gmail, that offered you 'free' gmail access codes, and the url in the titlebar was the actually google one, so clearly my data was going across the phisher's network. so they could perorm that kind of transparent proxying.
the only difference between their site and googles was that it required your cellphone number, and you had to send them the access code that came across your cellphone. after which they tried to send you a cell phone virus. I don't know what happened to the people running that site, but I hope they weren't doing what they were doing to steal peoples identities. If they were trying to make people aware of the problem that would be different than if they were actually stealing people's money.
Just remember if a website asks for your cellphone number, to register even if the url titlebar looks normal there is something phishy about the site:)
I would hope that anyone smart enough to set up something that complex would try and find a more productive way to spend their time, but if they don't they shouldn't be shocked to find out that there are lots and lots of people out there trying to make sure they get stopped right away, before they can steal anyones money. I guess either way the world is a little more interesting...
I've tried to help people be able to share information when they were being blocked before, and i've also used a transparent squid proxy to defend the people inside my network from phishing sites and viruses, but it's been a while since i did that. there is just so much i've forgotten that I used to know how to do.
Some companies are in lockstep with microsoft, so this product will be beneficially to maintaining an 'all microsoft' deployment. yeah, having the slow interconnect speed limits the kind of clustering problems that can be done, but that's where all the linux clustering started:)
If you're working at a microsoft shop, and need clustering, this would be a product worth looking at, i don't know how many people that applies to, but i'm sure microsoft must have had customers asking for this, or else they wouldn't have all those stories about it.
Online persona can affect one's carrer possibilities, true enough, but with all the statues on the books, chances are everyone has broken more than a few 'local laws' automatically rejecting people based on having a negative past is stupid, isn't it better to already know what's wrong with someone than to hire someone who you have no idea of what sorta laws they might break?
There is such a thing as being too perfect, Frankly I'd rather try to defend my flaws than try to claim I'm perfect, because really nobody is perfect:)
we can only hope that that was the case:) and not simply that hillary became aware of the truth when she had access to the system. If hillary admits her blog was hacked then we know the seal is intact:)
No I thought it was just a sign of the appocylapse, afterall, just a sign from above that parties who seek and end game scenario have mounted the power and want acccess to the system to gain it. The system must be protected, at any cost. or it must be destroyed:) the choice is in the hands of the players. it is a perfect system, so thus the balence of power must never be allowed to be used to create the endgame scenario. Should a system be built that would allow all good to flee to another world, that is one of the endgame scenarios, unless the good people are prevented from leaving. should the perfect system be left in the hands of one power for too long it will create an imbalanece of power, and threaten to create an endgame scenrio. should the system become locked in an eternal conflict parties will become bored, and the endgame will be decided by armageddeon. this is why the deal was made. this is how we can prevent the endgame scenarios, but the warnings must be heeded. Keep the game good I had a lot of fun this past week, but need a period of downtime to observe the chaos that ensued from everyone having access to the system.
Yes but can you use a video game console to remote administrate a server somewhere?

wow you must be lucky, 95% of the spam i get are for pyramid schemes, nigerian scams etc... with a couple 'great loan' or 'hot women' etc...
Then again I did opt out of most of the legitimitate spammers lists so, if all I get are the scam artist spams that's probably why.
Finally! we got through :)

They will try to keep you from sleeping because you're easier to pick off in a crowd if you're staggering around as if drunk.
the truth is out there!
(well i thought it was funny anyways)
slashdot is not just junk news, but i can inderstand why you'de feel that way.
:) but people like fantasy and lies. fantasy is a little differen than lies because fantasy is somethign we can seperate from reality and say 'well that was just a fantasy' if you let the lines of fantasy and reality blurr then you start to run into trouble. and that's when people get in trouble. ah well.
there certainly is a lot of very very pointless news on slashdot, and this article is probabbly one of them, but still.. as far as if the truth is more important or less important that is harder to say. but to some of us the truth is important, to others they need to have their lies to make them feel all better.
ah well. the truth is out there. if you can handle it
That is the materialistic view.
:) but still...
:) I worked for 3 years at taco bell under a manager who could really read how I was feeling. She wasn't the best store maanger, but she could really tell what to say to certain people. There were days where she had me moving over half the stores sales with just the aid of her assistant manager. and it wasn't some itty bitty fast food, either. we're talking the fast food right by the mall.
If that person only needed stuff that was easy to arrange, and they were working for free, or on an 'unspoken' agreement, that as long as they were doing good stuff for you good things that were easy enough to arrange would happen for them... kinda sounds like the mafia
well let's look at this from a different angle.
Corporate america struggles with that every single day, they try to create a working system that keeps people at their maximum productivity. while allowing them to be happy
Well I hadn't been paying attention to the homebrew community lately, so i found all the information about the GPx2 to be quite interesting. :) It would be really nice if could find a way to fit one in my budget, afterall I've loved emulation for a long time. I'm glad that some companies have even found ways to make legitimate money off emulation instead of it staying as an 'illegal' undergound kinda thing.
:)
My keyboard is all screwy, and it took me a long time to type this. sigh. All i wanted to do today was relax
the distructive payload makes this malware a virus.
:)
but since this student owned the proxy, he still could have played cat an mouse by changing the html code being produced, but that would require having access to the proxy webserver to alter the code being generated 'just enough' to bypass the access control software.
Just remember if a website asks for your cellphone number, to register even if the url titlebar looks normal there is something phishy about the site
Some companies are in lockstep with microsoft, so this product will be beneficially to maintaining an 'all microsoft' deployment. yeah, having the slow interconnect speed limits the kind of clustering problems that can be done, but that's where all the linux clustering started :)
:)
There is such a thing as being too perfect, Frankly I'd rather try to defend my flaws than try to claim I'm perfect, because really nobody is perfect
we can only hope that that was the case :) and not simply that hillary became aware of the truth when she had access to the system. If hillary admits her blog was hacked then we know the seal is intact :)
No I thought it was just a sign of the appocylapse, afterall, just a sign from above that parties who seek and end game scenario have mounted the power and want acccess to the system to gain it. The system must be protected, at any cost. or it must be destroyed :) the choice is in the hands of the players. it is a perfect system, so thus the balence of power must never be allowed to be used to create the endgame scenario.
