    They only did it for tax reasons in Europe, where general purpose computers are taxed at a lower rate than "entertainment systems"

    Unfortunately, the anti-theft protections are not compatible with the GPLv3, which some OLPC software uses.

    But you actually use Sun's javac to compile the initial phase. If I wrote a compiler that took executables produced by MS's Visual Studio and compiled them into some virtual machines bytecode, and it didn't worth with executables from GCC or any other compiler, I could say "you write your programs using Microsoft Visual Studio, and then run the result through this convertor" in full legality; I couldn't even describe my product if I weren't allowed to. This is in fact exactly what Google has done.

    No, studies show a correlation. It might just be that people who are already more likely to survive don't have as much pain and therefore tend to have better attitudes.

    It has only been out half a year, of those 180 million cellphones, how many were produced in the last 6 months? iPhone start to look much more successful (but of course the sales rates have already dropped off).

    Every one said the myspace buyout was *crazy* that there was no way they were worth 1 billion; shortly after the buyout, they signed an ad deal for exactly 1 billion.

    Wrong; if the proceeds weren't going to charity it can be speculated that the UID would go for less (in fact, there was one sold by a private individual a while back that went for *way* less).
