As a frequency this low will generally pass through buildings and obstructions much more effectively, it's probably a more likely candidate for inner-city wireless broadband than 802.11 -- on a commercial level.
If some ISP can obtain the correct licenses and find an existing 802.11 chipset with firmware-programmable frequency, they'd be the winners of all time.
There are a few Java Terminal Services clients out there that'll let you TS in through Linux and Mac.
As far as VNC, seeing as it is a product meant for wide cross-platform use, it actually takes snapshots of various windows/desktop, versus Microsoft's ability to build in specific calls to that server/client and just push icons, etc.
To say near the topic of the article: Yes, find some office space to share with other like-minded individuals. If you're good at networking (socially), you even may be able to score some extra work out of it.
This time next year, we should be reading about a nice big embezzlement scam and possible charges filed against employees or associates of one of those MMORPG developers.
You make some good arguments, but you're looking at it from the wrong angle.
His product will not directly benefit other businesses. It will, however, benefit contractors that implement OSS applications within these businesses.
I'm in a similiar position. I have two decently sized applications that I developed and licensed out - there is only one client per each. I would like to see them developed more, and hope someone could use them--perhaps I may be able to make a few bucks down the road as consulting for this.
In reality, I am not really missing out on any income as the chances of someone picking this up and going after a client that I even know exists are pretty slim. I will, however, gain a better understanding of the application itself, maybe make a few acquaintances and hopefully pay back the community that has helped me in so many ways already.
Death? Isn't the murderer afraid that it may sue them?
Incidentally, I killed mine a few months ago when I bumped into the corner of a kitchen counter. It bled to death shortly thereafter in my right pants pocket.
The look-and-feel of a UI is meaningless--the usability of said UI is what counts. Don't believe me?
I only need two examples: OS X and the Web.
Consumers spend as much, if not more time interacting with Web site UI than they do the OS itself.
OS X is definitely not trying to be a Windows clone, and I would even venture to say that it is more than just casually known for its impressive UI.
If you hit the market with a Windows-lookalike for half the cost, you will end up being known as the cheapo Windows rip-off for suckers. *coughLindowscough*
According the Jobs (paraphrased): "You might think '9 fans? Oh my god' But it turns out the opposite is true. We've gotten the noise down to 35dba at room temperature, 3x quieter than the latest G4".
Room temperature? Are there actually enough people that keep their computers in non-room locations for them to specifically point this out?
I can imagine visiting a friend and them showing off their new G5: "35dba in a room was just too much to handle, so.. we expanded on to the house a bit and now keep it just beyond this door--purgatory. Hear that? Not a peep. Nothing can top the sweet silence of limbo."
If you're not completely bent on an RPG, I highly suggest Laser Squad Nemesis--a great PBEM from some of the people that brought you the classic "X-Com."
Of course he would want games that are less involving--he's a VERY busy man.
I'm sure many of us react the same way -- jumping on a CS server or turning on Wario Ware when our lives are busy, unable to justify the hours/weeks required to play through an RPG.
More and more of us are becoming fully involved with (Real) life. The nostalgia is warming, but unfortunately I can no longer afford to spend the time on full-length games.
I'm sure the idea has come up more than a few times at NASA, and I'd wager that the reason they can't do this is that the Hubble would be subject to more atmospheric interference at the ISS' altitude, limiting the Hubble's usefulness.
Perhaps our next space station (which, hopefully, will be more of a space service station) will be positioned higher up, then they could keep satellites tethered to it for incremental upgrades and maintenance work.
I highly suggest Urban Terror. -- it's a team-based (or DM) semi-realism mod that bares some semblence to QuakeWorld mixed with Counter-Strike. Very fast paced when you want it to be, but has semi-realistic weapons and excellent maps. Personally, I found that it always beat Counter-Strike in pure fun-factor hands-down.
If they made it similar to the Surgeon General's Warning on tobacco and alcohol products, whereby the company basically gets to choose from a number of straightforward preset messages that must be displayed as prominently as the company logo and be at least %n as large, I think we could have a winnner.

My parents bought me a kit with a microscope when I was like eight. I got bored with looking at onion skins etc and told my father. He recommended that I look at my own urine. I saw things moving in there for the first time! This segued into how procreation works. Far less embarrassing/uncomfortable than the "birds n bees" schpiel IMHO.
I interrupted my step-father's porno-viewing with a complaint about being bored of my microscope once--this vast universe, and all I see are some dotted clear things. He gave me five-across-the-eyes while shouting "I'LL GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO STUDY!" and followed it up by pissing all over my ENTIRE Jr. Scientist Lab Set.
Works with 98, 2K, and up and allows you to control caching, supports SSL, etc.
Here's a clip that I used to get WebDAV to work while testing. Only use this as a _starting point_ -- I wouldn't trust its security setup for live usage without some tweaking/checking.

We originally started using what we referred to as "bar codes" in clan matches.
IlIlIlIl IllIllII IIllIlIl llIllIlI.. and then when we wanted to make our "identities" known, we would use one of the following:
[WeIsCHRIS] Christopher Walken [WeIsCHRIS] Christopher Reeve [WeIsCHRIS] Christopher Robin [WeIsCHRIS] Christopher Lowell [WeIsCHRIS] Christopher Lloyd.. etc. Any Christopher. Then I would say
"I'm Christopher Reeve, not walkin' (Walken)." And Walken would reply, "I'm Christopher Walken, not robbin' (Robin).":P
Beat me to the punch.
;)
This is the software that basically forced me to permanently mount a PC in my car.
And to think I had spent so much money on my car to impress the chicks, I had to go and ruin it all by nerding it out with yet another computer.
Regards,

Since it has a joystick and a decently sized display, who wants to take a stab at porting MAME to it?
I want to play Space Invaders while I rock out to 70's supergroup Foreigner.
We're the urchins of the aquaverse!

Hmm. I wonder if they're hiring?
Just park it next to Mir..

Isn't that what it's all about?

Depending on what you're planning to use it for, I'll just give you some space on my server. No big deal.. Just send me an email. :P

Guns N' Roses' lead guitarist "Slash" wastes thousands of you mean working whores.

Anyone care to purchase a specialized arcade cabinet (or kit) that fits an XBox and two or three of these things?
Given the construction quality of these sticks is good enough, that would be a nice little setup.

When will the emulators be released for this thing? I wouldn't mind all SNES games on one disc, all NES on another, and all GameBoy on a third. ;)

What do bugs have to do with anything, anyway?
Check out Novell NetDrive. It's available as a free download right here support.novell.com/servlet/filedownload/uns/pub/ne tdrv41.exe/ and allows you to mount FTP servers, WebDAV shares, and iFolders as local Windows drives.
