It's not a sequel. It's a "spiritual successor". It's almost, but not quite, what TA2 would've been, but in a completely different universe.

If by "complexity", you mean "ability to do micromanagement like a hyper-active hamster on crack"; then you're right.

The *craft series is for people who like to click around like a maniac, TA was for people who liked to use their brains to handle strategic and tactical problems.

I mean, Blizzard even admitted that they limited the building queue sizes and the amount of units you can select at one time on purpose, because it would make the game more "intense" ! I've never forgiven them for making SC a clickfest, and I never will.

Assuming there actually is infringing code in the kernel: the problem for SCO is that, if they indicate which parts of the kernel exactly are infringing, then those lines would be replaced very rapidly by non-infringing code.

This wouldn't help SCO, because they don't want it to be fixed: they want money, and replacement of the code wouldn't get them any.

  8. My take on realistic game violence on Lieberman Weighs In On Grand Theft Auto · · Score: 1

Ok so this isn't about GTA - sue me.

This one time I was playing Soldier of Fortune 2, with the gore level up to the max. Just for the heck of it, I was curious in how many ways you could mutilate someone. So I found some woman in a room somewhere, and proceeded to kill and maim her in various ways, reloading and trying again when she died.

After a bit, I started to feel almost physically ill because of all the horrible stuff I was seeing, and I stopped.

Now, after all that, I still play violent games, and kill people in them for fun, but now and again I feel slightly uneasy when I slaughter someone in some horrible way.

So my point is that realistic violence can teach people that violence is bad. Not that I didn't know it before (duh), but because of SoF2, it's all in a slightly sharper focus than before.

And if you'll excuse me now, I have to go kill someone.

If it had been something else, then that something else would have been the first and the biggest, and still be that way today, and all alternatives would only strengthen its position.
