The internet is more informative than it was in say 93,94,95, it is more informative than it has ever been. The problem is that the junk/noise has grown even much more faster than the useful data, the trick then becomes to learn how to find useful data. A lot of my friends have problems finding things with search engines, yet one or two tries and I will usually find what they want by carefully construction my queries. When I started using the net in 93-94. Text filez were the information then, to find a say 10 page text file on a technical subject was a God send, today, I can find complete books, we have come a long way.

He was once a hacker, read "Hackers" by Steve Levy.
They wrote it without having a machine, they had instruction set for the 8080 chip, and a Popular eletronics schematics, they had to make it fit in 4k of memory, and they had to make it less since the memory needed space to hold programs/data.
page 221. "but Gates in particular was a master at bumming code, and with a lot of squeezing and some innovative use of the elaborate 8080 instruct set, they thought they'd done it"
Gates speaking, "We rewrote the assembler, we rewrote the loader... we put together a software library"
so, in his early days, he was a hacker, more so than many slashdot people are in respect to things today.
but this is Bullshit! I have been on hold on phone for a long time, whilst that is annoying, it is more annoying to finally get a hold of someone and not be helped. perhaps what they need is a ticket # that can put me in an express line when i call back. sometimes, i have called, waited for 30 minutes, told to get ABC and call back, then I call again, and have to wait for another 30 minutes and worst not even speak with the same person I did. A ticket # that we can just punch in to the phone to get me an immediate response will be nice, said ticket # would be valid for a few hours...
"There is no way in hell you would ever even consider that these noises were made by a human being"
I consider that these musics were made by human, even after knowing that they were computer generated. What kind of a geek are you? This is what I dislike about peeps, if the computer sang it perfectly, people will bitch and whine about how it sings perfect and no human sings perfectly. If it didn't, others will point out at it's flaw. I study Japanese, haven't lived in Japan, but have worked with Japanese peeps and watched hundreds of Japanese movies, and I have to say, sounds great to me!
You can purchase a Toyota Prius, good for you, I can't, he probably can't too. How much do you think he earns in his country? He didn't do this for bragging about a Mac in his car. This guy has a very neat hack, read the article, look at the pictures. He gave very smart reasons for why he did the things he did.

"First I wanted to completely seal the motherboard case, but later I found this was not really a good idea, particularly due to the changes in temperature and the air volume inside the case. To fix this, I have installed two Gore-Tex valves on the case. These valves are used in automotive industry to allow air circulation in the headlight units while keeping the water on the outside."
"All the custom software is written in Cocoa. The main application was designed and written by Ondra Eada, I have used this opportunity to learn Objective C from him and later written most of the plug-ins."
As you can seen, not another guy trying to get on slashdot, from the hacks, he is quite smarter than the average slashdot reader.
Why does it frighten you? Did you even read the article? If you did, can you tell us what is so distracting? Everything there is an article about a car with a tech modification, someone like you is bound to post a lame reply like this just cuz you know that people who didn't read will bound to agree.

slashdot threat is real, the other i refused to take out the garbage and my mom told me she will get slashdot on my site, i took out the garbage, cleaned my room and washed all the cars.
Verisign does not have the market yet, so if you feel we should have an open/public DB, which I also feel, then it is imperative for us to act at once and implement our own DB. If there is an open alternative, people will use it! But if we let Verisign grow rather quickly, then they will win by first movers advantage.
the same reason all those peeps on late night TV showing how to make $1million a year doing real estates with $0. Cuz they are full of shit, and they make their money talking/selling/writing crap.
Lexis-Nexis is free, wooops, for being a college student, I get access to Lexis-Nexis and 100+ other expensive databases, because of this, I have sworn to remain a student for life!
Was there a sample machine to show people how to vote before they actually used the machine? I am betting you if such a machine was put for the slashdot crowd, that SOME are going to forget to hit the VOTE button the first time, and even the second time, On a couple of occassions I have almost forgotten my ATM card or cash cuz I had other things in my mind, but usually I remember because I had to get something.
If the machine gave a paper ticket that said "VOTED" perhaps this will remind people.
Now, I am very interested at a potental flaw, what if someone walks in to vote, selects candiates and all and doesn't hit "VOTE BUTTON", and I walk in. Can I change his Vote, and Hit the "VOTE BUTTON?" Is there a timer/counter that resets the screen?
Listen, 10000 emails. I can pretty much go through 10000 emails in one week. One, start by grepping "@" in the comments. Then the 2 letter abbreviation code for states. Then reading it. So their excuse that they cannot go through it all, is bull.
Sometimes, I can't help but wonder that we humans are like viruses, we just reproduce/replicate endlessly. So what happens next when we take over Mars?
Anyway, on the mars rover finding life, I always wonder, why do we think life exists ON mars, how about IN mars, beneath the planet, the surface looks dead, what is under all that? I wonder if the rover has a mic, I do love to hear what it is like out there. probably nothing, but who knows? are there winds? etc,
Everything that makes it to the public domain is always both obvious and trivial. Everytime we hear about a new invention/method, we always go, dang, why didn't we think of that! why? cuz it seems so obvious and trivial.
wow, maybe that is how other countries feel about US. Why should other people get nervous? Let's see, how many terrorist attacks have happened around the world due to Indians?
"The suit asks for damages as well as an injunction against Microsoft and other penalties."
Whilst I may agree with the basis of their lawsuit granted I have never heard of them as a non PC gamer, I disagree with their request. Since this is an upcoming game, why not just ask for injunction against Microsoft to change the name, What damages are they asking for? It's funny how they go to quote Microsoft against Lindows, Microsoft was asking for change of name, which I disagree with, Microsoft was not asking for damages done by the name "Lindows"

from now till the election, how many more lives are we going to lose in Iraq?
"In your own opinion"
Well, that's why you are not a judge, and I pray not, cuz judge's shouldn't be playing with "in their own opinion", they should follow the law.
damn, I love trolls.

... new type of microchip?
please, what is it going to be off, plastic and wood?
the solution is to shield it, perhaps it is also time to start building anti EMP technology.
It's really funny that you mentioned this, we really should find more things like this and turn it around on them.
I have a ford escort, 100,000 miles, 8 years. Never broken down on me. Still has original battery, starts up everytime.

yeah, how about if they decide not to let in say gay people or chinese people?
my house is a private property, i have the right not to let everyone in too.
when this happen, we will have real time VNCServers. *Yawns*
