We've got a few here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada as well. Most of the people I know frequent either Ages or Naked, but from my place there are another few within walking distance.
A lot of people would rather spend the cash to go to a cybercafe/PC-Baang to hang out and game with their friends than lug their machines all over the place to set up a LAN. As well, by heading to a cybercafe, you get to skip the requirement of owning your own PC.
In Edmonton it just started getting cold (below -10) in the last few days. No serious snow yet though.
And just so I'm OT, I'm tempted to swing by a store and try this out over the holidays. Hmm - would this help compact some of that excess wrapping paper?
Kinda OT, but:...such as trying to turn 50% of all store employees into part-timers..
Employees classified as part time or occasional often don't get benefits and as such save the company cash. From strictly a cost point of view, it's cheaper. From an employee's point of view (occasional working FT hours for 9 months now), it really sucks as benefits are nice.

A better question is "have these people seen what passes for the average filmgoer these days?"
The interesting thing to me was that when Q first brought out the car, he walked behind it and his leg was visibly distorted. Then, for the rest of the movie, this effect did not happen. I guess they had a sudden technology upgrade after it left the garage.

I've repeatedly heard rumors of decriminalization here in Canada, but so far naught's come of it. It's an interesting subject to watch though.
It'll probably result in a lot of people doing a lot of pot in a short time, but the use will decrease as the novelty dies off (and everybody gets ticketed).
The problem comes that if nobody uses the POTS system, the telco loses it's income. If the telco has cutbacks, service quality drops. That includes DSL and dial internet access, so wouldn't VOIP becomes pretty useless unless you're using cable?
In the case of one of my friends, double shifts at Burger King would prevent his seeing his young son and taking classes at university part time which he does to get out of his hellish job.

A friend of mine, a bit of a chemist, had issues with university kids cutting through his lawn on the way back from the bar. His solution? Homemade flash-bangs. His neighbours weren't impressed but the kids stopped cutting through..
I work tech support now. Dont' get any of those, but one of our production systems threw this at me the other day: "System Error: You need to contact technical support."

I've found that the best way to reduce cheating in CS is to play over a LAN. Then you can walk across the room and deal with the cheaters in a much more effective way than anything online...

Y'know, a couple years ago that would have sounded a lot less plausable..

Everybody assumes the threat is over and buys more CD's?
I know that our company was in on this last year but decided not to go for it this year.
Something about employee buyouts and union issues and stock worth slightly more than printer paper at the time..

Didn't Art of Noise do this with Dubussy a while back?
