    ...and the guy *is* incompetent. So much so that he *ran* for cover leaving his second-in-command to take the historical beating their party got at the national legistlative elections.

    It was the greatest turn-around in public support in the shortest time in the history of democracy in portugal (which, admitidly, is rather short at 31 years :P) ...And now he "runs" the comission... there is no justice...

    Crucially important. Asterisk is the pits to implement for 80%+ of the situations where a open source voip pbx would be useful.

    Don't get me wrong, it's amazingly powerful and does just about anything except wash windows... as long as you can get it working properly. But it's not the right tool for a small (think 5-50 people) company which only wants a simple PBX to connect their phones...

    Finally someone with similar opinions. I was wondering if is was the only one who thought most of JMS's characters have the "depth of a bird-bath" (with apologies to Crosby...).

    Gkar and Londo being the wonderfull exception: I must confess that long after I stopped caring what the outcome of the "war of the shadows" (huuUUUHHhhh ... scary) would be, i kept on making an effort to watch the show due to the character development in these two.

    Londo starting out as the friendly and amiable buffoon , his change due to his ambition and his eventual redemption... or G'kar starting out as little more than a bully, finding out slowly by hints that there was more to him and his eventual "growing-up"...

    Seriously, what is so complex about using something like Heartbeat/LDirectord and setting up a HA/LB cluster?
    Took me about 3 hours to read through the docs, google for examples and setup a 2-Load Balancer/3-Node Cluster, using downloaded packages from ultramonkey.org .

    With a 30 sec deadtime, full takeover takes about 1-2 minutes.

    I've been skimming the documetantion for this.
    Does anyone use this for big, transparent file storage networks.
    I've been looking for something better than "a bunch of nfs servers with some code to redirect each client to his storage". This is a pain to manage as well as having lots-'n-lots of pof's...

    I've noticed that that metadata is not in a single node anymore, but it's not replicated yet either. I could live with this reliability problem if it could give me the transparency to just add a server when needed and not worry about wasted space in old servers...

    If the issue has been "beaten to death ... in the mailing lists" then it should be part of the faq's/docs/manual. Read the mailing lists is not an answer to a question, specially if the mailing list is quite active and has archives going back years...

    On the other hand, most of his complaints are answered right on the manual, so i don't get his problem either...

    *Of course* it's junk science. It's still *fun* to read about it and whack it to pieces, discuss other weird ideias and whacko inventions we've read about.

    If you want straight, sober, "serious" news there are plenty of sites like that out there...

    Basically baboons are a top predator. Meaning they eat and are not eaten


    Almost but not quite: any large cat will attack and eat a baboon if given half a chance. Some Leopards specialize in them, actually. It is not a completly safe meal and there are reports of stalking leopards getting killed by their prey.

    Back in the day that every new piece of software for windows 3.1 was named win-something, my then employer used that exact same naming scheme, where the something was a shortening of the subject matter of the app.

    One day we did an analysis tool for the other apps. The marketing departement got as far as actually printing brochures before noticing that maybe Win-Anal wasn't such a good name after all.....

    There is: *you* install filtering software *voluntarily* (as in: noone made you do it) in your pc.
    The comment above yours was about *compulsory* filtering for everyone. I don't do porn for personal reasons, but I would like it to be *me* who decides what i want to see or not see...

    Quite frankly, i have no children of my own (yet) but i have helped to raise my (much younger) sisters and i know the feeling of terror you get that they might hit on something which you don't want them exposed to at that age.

    But you can't make other ppl follow the same restrictions that you wish to impose on your children. It's a society, not a world-wide kindergarden...

    I mostly agree with the previous poster, though i would be harsher: after the disapointment that Battle for Dune was, i was hoping that wc3 would be at least as good as starcraft...

    It isn't. Not even close. their solution to big armies is a rather more vicious limit to how many units you can build... but the hp's screw that up. Cannon towers (in humans) are quite useless... It's almost impossible to create an effective killing zone...

    Tactics consist of as manny melees and ranged fighters as you can build divided into two main teams... and that's it!

    I got so disapointed i went back to Shogun...

    Yes, i remember how wonderfull NP's economic/infrastructural policies were...
    Only thing which worked well were the roads and highways.

    I still remember the raging debates against the Governement monopoly on comunications back then...

    Current governement has (seriously) screwed up some things, but NP was in no way better (not even close)

    use the right pump and there's no noise from the pump whatsoever. For example, enheim pumps (by fafr the most popular for these kits) are almost inaudible, if you mount them on rubber feet.

    As for the necessity for high-cooling, we're not talking about 386's here, some of these cpu's are dissipating 80 watts..

    Basically all you have to do is make a dll to hook the WM_CREATE message. Then you just have to check which type of window (or even which window).
    Easy-peasy, done in an hour or so, back when w2k came out.

    It *is* bloody useless, though, I only use it ... well, for the look of the thing ;)

    There is no lack of scarcity, in other words it's not the same as someone taking something away from me and giving it away, since in that example I wouldn't have it anymore.

    This is *NOT* the case here, a copy leaves the original intact. If i remember my history correctly, it was one the points raised by your very own Thomas Jefferson, when he raised some personal worries concerning copyright and patents...

    Of course, it might reduce the market value of the original...

    Carmack, Romero and a third gentleman whose name i don't recall created ID so as to be able to sell publishing rights of Keen to apogee.

    Keen was created to demonstrate a cool new scrolling algorithm which Carmack had come up with...

    They did the game in 3 months on their spare time.

    If the Real license is $20.000 per 400 connections, it's irrelevant if it suports more connections per processor, since for $20.000 I can buy a *hell* of a lot of processors.

    Personnaly I would rather pay for hardware than software (that's what got me into linux in the first place). I Windows media has a better compression, quality and price (nill) than It's illogical to think about anything else.

    I love Linux and use it every day, but don't forget the golden rule of engineering: "the right tool for the right job"

    Actually, if your car informed you through a sequence of beeps, honks and whistles about everything that was going on inside, you *would* mind.

    Also, notice that the tendency is for cars to become *quieter* in everything, so as to not disturb passengers/people around it, so you're sunk there too.
