    There is no proven in science, there is only the current theory. SO you are pretty much saying bush wants to ban science. Pretty much figures given his track record.

    Hmm so if everything you do on work time is work's responsibility then they should pay for anything I buy online while I am there.

    To put it another way, not everything you do at work is anything to do with them. Nor should it be.

    Basically if you write something at work without them asking or anything the worst that should happen is you are disciplined for slacking off.

    Unfortunatly you don't get it.

    It's not that computers are new and frightening, its that its not some people area of interest so they don't care.

    This does not mean they should not use computers, just they they don't use them like us.

    Other people have no care about their car's engine and how it works. This does not mean they do not need to travel.

    Of course there are people that take this to extremes and certain people inadvertantly do as much damage to a computer as letting a car run out of oil (or something suchlike).

    Remeber though is a workstation is infected 99% of the time it is IT's fault. Work machines need to be locked down unless a user demonstrates the clue not to do this.

    I am not on the IT side of things anymore and tell you what, a very large majority of IT staff are what I'd call stupid. At least we can agree that stupid is annoying. Unfortunatly this is a governmential problem and not something we can deal with.

    Not that I've doen any tests but why would flac provide bad battery life?

    The codec is optimised to need crunching while ocmpressing yes but the playback is lightweight and integer, surely that should make flac provide the best battery life.

    Or am I missing something?

    And there in lies the problem.

    In business the contract generally goes to someone who can talk the talk.

    Unfortunatly where as any moron can knock up a windows environment (they should chaneg the cert to mcm=microsoft certified moron) it takes more than a gas bag mouth to deploy linux succesfully.

    The project was likely a falire due to this.

    Initially:
    Gas Bag Moron: Hey I can save you money with linux?
    Birmingham: Ok

    After getting this contract
    Gab Bag Moron (internal dialogue): So what's this linux thing, can't be that hard after all I've got microsoft cerification.

    Bah.

    Yeah burn lossy, rip and re-encode.

    I'll buy from itunes when I can download lossless and burn to cd. Still when that day comes why bother with the DRM?

    I'll keep on ripping my cd's in flac and using my IAudio to play them thanks.

    I wish that were true, we have 9500 employees acording to wiki. I've also previously worked for banks still using nt 3.51.

    In my experience the bigger companies keep with what they have and never upgrade.

    Please try to convince my company to upgrade!

    Every day I use such great microsoft products as NT 4, Office 97 (with outlook upgraded with the free 98 (about a year ago, OL 97 before that), IE 5.5, or is it 5.0? I forget.

    Simple truth is most companies have no reason to upgrade. It aint gonna make them more money.

    Tt has finesse.

    This is important to the average user.

    Me?, I'm stuck in my ways and lazy.

    This means i have an iaudio because it's the only thing that will play my flacs without converting them.

    I encode important stuff in flac, otherwise I use ogg!

    My other uses a ipod and there is some nice features I wish my iaudio had. However byond the flac problem also hate giving up control and ipod/itunes does this. I want to manage my files my way damn it! Yews this means I also use firefox/thunderbird on my mac rather than the apple offerings!

    I loved my amiga back in the day.

    However in 1996/7 I went PC out of a need for more.

    I've tried various other OS's over the years but have not been convinced.

    Since OSX 10.4 things however have been different. Back i the day i used to head-butt mice to pretend to be a mac user in a derogatory way, however my new mac mini and macbook fill the extra the amiga used to provide in my computing life.

    Yeah I still have a windows box for gaming and a kubuntu server for stuff but my macs provide my general computer needs and that sence of fun that was otherwise missing.

    Should amiga release something i may bve tempted but i know its as much amiga as some company that buys some dead companies name to try and get ahead.

    Times change, this does not mean new amiga will be bad, just not new amiga.

    Anyway OSX is here and now and nice!

    Or maybe not since he does not understand anamorphic! He probably stretches all 4:3 format stuff on his widescreen teevee so everyone looks short and fat! (Arggh people who soo annoy me, they don;t even understand why I refuse to watch 4:3 stuff while at their houses)

    Forget the lot of them, they are all useless.

    Why should I pay as much or more than a DVD for a download copy that it riddled with DRM and much lower in quality?

    For any download I expect them playable on anything I might use. At the moment I have 3 machines I regularly use. A Windows XP Box, a Mac Mini and a Kubuntu box. I also expect to be able to stream whatever it is from my Kubuntu box as I use that as a file server. Also playing on my pda and laptop and hey even on my real dvd player are also pretty important things.

    This stinks of the current trend of charginf ridiculour prices for something just because it is downloadable.

    Hey companies downloadable saves you loads of money pass this on to me instead of expecting me to quadruple your profit on things.

    I'll stick to DVD thanks, at least the problems with that have been overcome.

    NOt easily on later one, not greatly keyed but there was a larger plastic nibble on one side of the power connecters to persuade you not to put it the wrong way or at least make it need extra force, still with force you could plug it the wronh way.

    hey i've plugged a hard drive power cable the wrong way with force! that killed the drive certainly!

    I switched to a OS-X mac because it reminds me of when computers were fun. (That's amiga os 3 for all you fools)
