The kids got a stack of DVD's for Christmas. I'm bordering on _FURIOUS_ that on some of them we have to sit through about 3 minutes of previews and "You wouldn't steal a car... video piracy is stealing" warnings.
I found a way through these, a lot of DVDs seem to come with a country selection list at the start of the DVD. Just pick the first on the list. The list seems to be a way of choosing what Anti-Piracy ad you get to see.
Surely it should be left up to the OEM to decide what browser to include. They are after all the distributors of the software. Microsoft could be allowed to bundle their browser/media player in with the shrink wrapped copy of the operating systems when they themselves are the distributors, but it should be unbundled when sold by OEMs so a different browser or media player could be included. Just like OEM distributors of Linux systems can decide what software components they want to include by default.
You can always buy your mainstream music second hand. I'm pretty sure that pisses them off a lot more than piracy. It's being sold legally yet they don't get a penny and they'd ban it if they could.
Well they were part of the standardisation process so only had to ask for those features to be included. So it's a little cheeky to complain afterwards.
That's the problem, Wikipedia is meant to be an electronic encyclopedia not a platform for advertising. It's similar to those people who think that search engines are meant to be a delivery platform for visitors to their web site and that they should be guaranteed a top ten position in search results. If people want to advertise they can pay to advertise, but instead they try to subvert the usefulness of these sites and whine when things don't go their way.
It's not entirely software emulation, it just has one instead of two PS2 chips. I got the 60GB UK model about a month ago and have been very happy with it. The backward compatibility has been very good, but I'll probably play about as many PS2 titles as I did PS1 titles on my PS2.
The only Alvin and the Chipmunks remake I'd want to see one where the Chipmunks get rabies. Other than that, they should be tracking down and destroying all existing copies not making new ones.
I really wish people would stop parroting these Daily Mail catch phrases. They're so bad at them. Surely people can come up with something that isn't completely lame. The current one just asks for the "well move somewhere else then" response.
Only non-native English speakers says "maths". It's "math", or if you must "mathematics" Carry on.
What you mean non-native English speakers like people who live in England? "Math" is an American English thing and sounds off to a native English speaker.
Doesn't that quote suggest he's just been confused by the term global warming and doesn't understand the basic issue at all? I'm convinced it's because of people like him that the popular term was modified to "Climate Change". It's about the energy the heat adds to the system, not the fact that it gets warm everywhere. It could well get colder in a lot of places, all it does is make things more extreme. Like pushing a swing just that little bit harder, it might go up higher but unless you move it's the back swing that will have you not fathering any children.
You don't need any knowledge of partitions at all. You just run the installer and tell it to use the whole hard disk. What could be simpler than that? Not any different to installing a Windows PC from scratch.
You can buy them here: Fluendo. They do a lot of work based around GStreamer. If you don't want to buy any you can still get a legal MP3 codec for free.
Worms don't provide a necessity for anti-virus software. There are other defences against worms. Patch the vulnerable services, apply relevant firewall rules and don't run unnecessary services. When anti-virus comes into play it is already too late and all your other defences have failed.
Proof for what? Larger market share. And surely it has to be most targeted, after all we're always being told Windows has such a problem with malware because it is most popular and not merely because it is swizz cheese.
OpenOffice handles its native files just fine. How well does MS Office handle OpenOffice files? The fact it works so well with Office files is an achievement, but if you're using OpenOffice then you're better off using its native format.
As for OpenOffice's compatibility with Office, it really comes into its own when Office is incapable of opening an Office file. It does happen. And in that case, OpenOffice will frequently be able to come to the rescue.
I'm sure it's much more preferable to be on the office treadmill, where you're eventually forced to upgrade by being sent files from the newer version.
I find it amusing how there is this attitude that OpenOffice sucks because it can't always perfectly handle a closed proprietary format, but how the situation that people are being locked into that format is somehow perfectly acceptable. Despite all its flaws. I can't help but stifle a laugh when I hear about the perfection of MS Office. The suite has so many problems, I truly do not know where to begin. It's merely entrenched, highly overrated and as buggy as hell.
It's funny you should say that, I've just finished reading that Ray Bradbury short story "The Crowd". It's about a guy who is a car accident who realises that the crowd that gathers around accidents is always the same core group of people with a few normal hangers on.
When they did an article about it being banned on the BBC breakfast news a lot was made of the fact that it was on the Wii and that the Wii's controller actually made it more imersive. As though the player was actually performing the act. A piece aimed at a casual non-tech audience saying that the Wii version of the game was the most disturbing. You could easily see it having a negative impact on the Wii's kid/casual gamer friendly image.
I was surprised it was coming out on the Wii, considering the audience they are targeting with their ads, the original hit the news here for all the wrong reasons as well (implicated in a murder it had nothing to do with).
What if you asked God and he said it was OK? I'm pretty sure you can use the interiors without restriction then. I'm not sure even the supreme court can override one of his decisions.

> Spam iconic to the Brits? WTF? Maybe to Monty Python, but not the Brits...
Actually it is. It doesn't have positive associations but it's definitely iconic. Why do you think Python used it in the first place?
For me, it was when Luke landed on Dagobah and encountered Yoda.
Yes, and all those annoying US security camera clip shows are just a figment of my imagination.

You've got the exchange rate the wrong way around, 99p is about $2.

Are you not aware of Ardour or did you just forget to mention it? It can do VST plugins.
