Fact is, that's not going to happen.

So, what you're faced with is trying to make the "it will save us money" argument. However, the people who save the money traditionally aren't the ones who have to pay the price. (in this case learning new software).

Sorry, but the save money argument holds no water unless the folks who are going to benefit from said savings are also the same people who have to pay the price of learning how to use new software. Until then, Word works just like it has for years, and papers get written.

No one is as much of a pain in the ass as a user who is forced to use software they don't want to use. Forcing users onto systems they hate isn't a good way to convince people to switch.

in our society, we have justifiable homocide. if you're protecting yourself from someone who's trying to kill you, and you kill them, you don't go to jail.

if, on the other hand, you murder someone, you have problems. Han murders Greedo. (or whatever his name is) because he doesn't want to go back to Jabba. the character that murders someone to me is a fundamentally different character than the guy who's just trying to keep from getting shot.

It has a few bonuses going for it.

First, you get the speed of RAID drives, and you only lose 1 drive of your entire set. (So the more drives you have, the better it gets)

Of course, if you're going to go with RAID, you need to duplicate that data somewhere else, just to be safe.

Along these lines I'd recommend another RAID 5 in (at minimum) another location. With RAID 5 it also covers the eventual loss of a drive from your array, and can rebuild it. Of course, you can now spend as much or as little you want on your RAID 5 setup, so the costs will vary widely.

And second, did they ask you to make the songs purchased on the iTunes store playable from other devices? In other words, ask you to license FairPlay to other third parties?

Steve Jobs: Great. Let me answer those two things. First one is the price for songs in the iTunes store is remaining 99 cents per song, and we think that's what customers want and that's what we're delivering. So the prices will remain 99 cents per song and any rumors to the contrary are simply not true.
