It may still be that Shenmue 3 is the 'secret title' AM2 are revealing some time this month, but it's launching in 2004 so it's not on the AM2 release list for this year.

Or at least, that's the reading if you're a hopeless Shenmue optimist. We'll have to see.

As far as I know, the only English-language demo version was the one handed out on CD-ROM at E3 in 2001 - the GIA article talks about it.

I don't think it's ever been made available online, because there's never been an English-language publisher for the game :(

    Ohboy.

The Slashdot editor (myself) who wrote the post is English. Hence you will occasionally see Anglicizations (Anglicisations?) in my posts. This was actually one I wasn't aware of, and I'm going to try to viciously staunch it, as I have those poor 'U' characters - sentenced to death to save frenzied typing from Slashdot pedants the world over. Slashdot is, indeed, meant to be an American English zone, and I'll be doing all I can to strive for this important goal.

    It's 'lorry', btw.

Actually, the Internet Archive's main Wayback Machine servers are located in a co-location center in San Francisco, so it's not correct to say they're located outside the US. There is a mirror of the Archive's web content at the Library of Alexandria in Egypt, however - maybe that's what you're thinking of?

In any case, the Archive's work with the Library Of Congress and, increasingly, national libraries who want to archive the Web content of their countries, proves that the establishment also thinks Web archiving is a vital thing to do for posterity. But the rights issues are definitely tricky.

I'm pretty sure that Eidos will release this title in Europe as well, providing they're confirmed as publishing it, since I checked on GameFAQs, and all the Fresh Games titles so far have been released in Europe and the US more or less simultaneously. Which is nice.

Are there many/any major games that come out in Europe and not Australia, or is that simply a question of distribution?

  8. Re:This is all pointless... on ESRB Ratings Add Violence Descriptors · · Score: 1

I'd heard that it was the pre-rendered intro on DoA:XBV that made the ESRB slap the more restrictive rating on the game - not sure if anyone knows that for sure, but there was allegedly a last-minute ratings change on the title.

It's certainly true that one of the characters is naked for a fair few seconds as she dives from the cliff-top in the intro, not that you can see anything much. But the game itself, odd as it is, doesn't seem as seditious and evil as, well, blowing the heads off things. Anyhow, I bought the game to.. yes, research volleyball physics, that's right.

I think that's a very good point. The interesting thing is that, despite their track record, they got signed with Microsoft to do a first-party title. It's a little mystifying, considering their background.

Actually, here's a preview of Citizen Zero, which is the former PC title that their Xbox game is likely to be at least partially based on.

It _is_ a little confusing right now, but here's what you can do to either receive the Slashdot Games section-only stories, which is most of them, on your front page, or remove them entirely.

If you want to see Slashdot Games (and other subpage posts) on your main page, go to the Homepage part of your Preferences - here, and tick the Collapse Sections tickbox.

If you're fed up with Slashdot Games appearing on your main page all the time, you must already have Collapse Sections ticked. In that case, tick the Exclude Stories From The Homepage - Sections - Games tickbox in the same menu screen.

Unfortunately, if you're a developer and are receiving milestone payments from your publisher at regular intervals, then your last milestone payment will probably be at the gold master of the game.

At that point, you'd have to wait a few months to even _possibly_ get royalty payments from that title, through. So if Ritual didn't have a lot of money in the bank to pay developers until a new project came through.. issue. I think the same type of thing happened with the Myth III development team (scroll down) a coupla years ago, who were, oddly enough, ex-Ritual people, although the inside scoop on that may be a little different, and blatant speculation abounds, etc.
