What does being an atheist have to do with decency standards? Atheists do not base their morals on religous dogma, but they still have morals. It is hard not to absorb the mores of the culture you grow up in. I have found that most people in a given culture share many core values. While some religious fundamentalists may have a longer list of "bad things", the average person in society, athiest or not, will likely have similar views on what is wrong.

Sorry, but "parents aren't exactly supported in this culture" is just a cop out. I'm a SINGLE parent with three kids, and I DO know what games and music my kids are listening to. It isn't that hard to spend time doing stuff with your kids that they like. There are some games I won't let my kids play (GTA for one) - they can play games like that when they are older if they want to. Parents don't even have to actually play the games, just watch to see what they are like. As for labels, they help but it is still important to watch what yourk kids are up to so you can watch out for stuff that might need a little parental guidance or explanation.

It is a parents job to teach their children right from wrong, and reinforce those lesson by example.

That said, it is best to combine proper training, coping mechanism, and other therapy with the drugs. And don't stick with the first drug you try. A good Doctor will arrange to try a few different drugs to find the one that is most effective with the fewest side-effects. Also, arrange for a "drug holiday" once a year if it is a "mild " case. Many people are more able to cope without medication as they mature and learn more self-control. But don't feel bad if you (or your child) have to continue with drugs all your life. You wouldn't feel bad if it was insulin.
