-Come out with a decent game (Half-Life), and then do nothing. The price of the game drops to the usual discount prices and all of a sudden, counter-strike becomes popular. What does valve do? Jack the price back up to $40! Where it still sits, 6 years later! And they've done pretty much nothing in the meantime except sit back and grow fat off CS's popularity.

Oh my god!! A company that charges what the market will bear! How can they do such a thing?

That's not even true either. I bought the HL platinum pack HL + CS + OpFor + Blue Shift + TFC for $25

I think the poster was a little confused about that. I remember seeing an article in the NY Times a couple months ago (I tried searching but couldn't find it) about how in the south some christian radio owners are taking advantage of a law that gives high power broadcast station precedence over low power signal relay stations. Many places get NPR only because it is retransmitted through a relay station. The article talked about how this man was on a mission to get rid of NPR and did it by starting radio stations that broadcasted with higher power and therefore got NPR's frequencies. It had nothing to do with ClearChannel.

High schools used to ban cell phones because the only people that had them at school were drug dealers. That is no longer the case and most high schools allow you to have cell phones as long as they don't ring in class. You can even call people while in the halls or at lunch. I'm quite sure some people were actually able to be rescued out of Columbine High during the shooting because they called the police on cell phones.

I downloaded the demo and decided that I would not buy DX:IW after playing it for five minutes. Now you can flame me and say I haven't played the full game and that I'm just one of those people that thinks its fun to bitch about video games, but think for a second. It was a demonstration of the game, and unless they decided to put the worst level in the game in the demo, which would be quite stupid, I can judge if I will like the game or not by playing that level.

Pre-release alphas and betas are different, but the only things you can't really judge from a demo are plot features. You can judge if you will like the gameplay/graphics/etc. I thought graphics looked sub-par, I thought the menu's and iventory system were rediculous, and I definitely experienced the lack of localized damage when I shot people in the head many times and they didn't die. Do you really think that so many people bitching about the lack of localized damage are wrong?

Finally, for those that say you should give it a chance. Hell no! That game would cost me fifty dollars. If I could rent it and try it on console maybe I'd do it, but as a PC gamer I don't have that option and fifty dollars is just way too much for a trial of something which had a demo that suggested I wouldn't like it.

Some people do consider intellectual aspects of a film fun, others do not. One person may find Citizen Kane an excellent movie with a great story and other may not be so interested in it. This is the same reason why one person might think trudging through the Myst universe for hours is fun, and another might only want to play a fast paced fps like counter-strike. The point is a game has to be fun for a person to play, but different people have different definitions of fun, and therefore another person's review of a game is worthless to you.
