  1. Correct. on Latest Animatrix Short Released · · Score: 1

If you watch the trailer for the entire series only the second renaissance one explain any history. The other seven are all just unrelated stories in the matrix world. However buying the dvd would be worth it so you don't have to pay money to see the Animatrices that come before shitty movies like Dreamcatcher. All the ones that will be released on the internet have been, the other five will be shorts before movies, as was Flight of the Osiris, which was the CG one before Dreamcatcher.

That is the reason why the health book used at my highschool does not contain the word condom at all. They didn't want to get banned from conservative communities, so the went for the lowest denominator. Which is a bad idea in a 85% minority, poor school with high rates of teen pregnancy/STDs.

  5. Teaching to the bottom. on A New Approach to Teaching Science · · Score: 2, Interesting

I'm a high school sophomore and at my school (public) we have a similar problem with dumbing down. However it is carried out in a different manner. Instead of having bullshit prerequisits that make it impossible to get into classes, they let almost everyone into the advanced class. Someone with a D in regular 10th grade chemistry who can't grasp the concept behind a mole or titration, even after weeks of review on the subject, should not be in an AP Chem class the next year. However, the school lets them in and the teacher feels obligated to teach to the bottom, or atleast near bottom.

This is especially problematic when it's an AP class with a set curriculum for the AP exam. My chemistry teacher actually said to me, "I don't teach the stuff on the AP Chem exam because most of the class wouldn't be able to keep up." That's no way to run a class at all.

  8. More distracting on 10 Techno-Cool Cars · · Score: 1

I-Drive is tauted by BMW as less distracting than having many buttons to adjust all the things in your car, such as volume, temperature, deforst, etc. However when you think about it, it takes you more time, and is therefore more distracting, to navigate through many menus just to turn on the radio.

In my car I am distracted only slightly when turning on the radio because I already know where the knob is, therefore all i do is glance down for a fraction of a second and get my bearings, put my eyes back on the road, reach for the knob with one hand while keeping the other on the wheel, and hit the knob. That is much simpler and intuitive.

It is not tech fear that causes people to hate the I-Drive, it is the poor, distracting UI. The underlying system behind I-Drive is probably fine (although it is Windows..) but people will not like it unless the UI is better designed.

Also GM's drive by wire stuff seems to be utterly rediculous and I hope it never gets produced in its current stae. Making people brake with their hands is simply rediculous. If you had to make an evasive manuever and slam on the brakes at the same time, how on earth would you do that?

Sprints messaging, as well as entire web system, is clunky at best. The fact that you have to lauch the browswer, which takes quite a while, counts as a call, and doesnt work half the time, is ridiculous. It should a feature directly built into the phone. A friend of mine has Verizon or Cingular (can't remember) and for him sending and recieving SMS is built in part of the phone that doesnt require launching a browswer.

IMHO, Sprint tries to make everything to browser based instead of application based. For instance, if you go online and try games, they are actually browser games. If you want to play tic tac toe, you type in B3 or wherever you want to place your mark and hit send. That is ridiculous.
