You might want to watch out, this was done in France first, where the legal action was successful and forced Apple to pull iPods from shelves for software updates to limit their output.
But, on the other hand, it's stupid no mater who does it.
I call BS. That looks like any one of a thousand quonset huts on Camp Pendleton and other Marine Corps bases. How do I know that it isn't a picture of one of them?
Somehow, I'm not upset. Wish they'd do it here! I'm sick of going to a movie and some 12 year old starts having a cell phone coversation in the middle of the freakin movie! I don't see where it's even an issue...just tell the customers you're doing it before hand and if they don't like it, then go away.
Hey AOL...looks like your engineering team has finally perfected that blend of ice cream and crack with PCP sprinkles. WTF are they thinking? Why expend the resources?
A USB mouse has far less lagand requires less computational resources than a PS/2 mouse. It also updates its position far more often. This is why I went to USB laser mice as soon as they came out. At the time I didn't exactly have a state of the art machine and I saw small FPS increases instantaneously.
USB mice are smoother and less laggy than PS/2 and serial mice, hands down, no contest.
More power to you. Frankly, I don't give a shit what my phone has on it, so long as it has a phonebook, numbers a send button, an end button and a power button. All I use my phone for is talking, aAnd I wish I didn't have to use it for that.
I didn't say don't why about crippling the phone. That's legit. I have an issue with people whining about greed. If someone is greedy and you don't like their products, don't give them your dollars (or pounds, or euros, or francs, or rubles or what ever other currency you might use.)
Next time read the God damned comment before saying stupid shit like "I'll bet you boycott "Consumer Reports." Hell, I used to subscribe to it until I realized how easy it was to do the research on my own.
No, if you're careless with a chainsaw it is just plan manslaughter. If it was accidental, not pre meditated and due to you ngligence. Regardless of how you or I feel about what the person did, there is a thing care elements of the crime. You have to meet those to get a conviction and they'll be reaching really hard to get 2nd degree murder.
I full agree with paying attention and using it properly, but that doesn't change the fact that they are indeed reaching.
I think they are reaching a bit with second degree murder. If he really was watching a DVD while driving though, I don't think vehicular manslaughter would be out of the question, as his carelessness with the vehicle would most likely have been the cause.
I used to drive a 1987 Honda CRX Si when I was 16, and before it got carry off with me in it in a flash flood, nearly killing me. I would routinely get 45mpg city and 50+ mpg in it on the highway. And it was a 4 cylinder gasoline engine! OF course, it only produced 80hp and the car had a curb weight of about 1200 lbs. But that's higher than epa.
Our Chrysler mini-van used to get 25/25, but as it has aged, it gets about 20/20. So it used to be right at EPA, now it is a little low.
MY 1994 Plymouth Duster meets EPA specs, my 1968 Mustang exceeds gets better than what I have read that it was expected to get originally.
Remember, 75% of gasmilage has more to do with how you drive than anything else. The other 25% is, engine displacement, number of cyinders, and number of accessories being driven by the engine (like power steering, air conditioning, power brakes...well not so much power brakes since it onyl takes power when you are stopping.) Believe it or not, things that use the engines power to cause it to produce more power such as a supercharger or a turbo charger will usually increase your gas mileage, especially on the highway. Why? Because you no longer have to bury you foot as much to get speed.
Here in Atlanta, Bellsouth has been selling DSL and land line sseperately for quite some time! Though, I can't imagine why anyone would want to use someone else for a land line being that my experience has been sorry quality with every company I've dealt with EXCEPT Bellsouth and the prices aren't THAT much better.
It's a way to harrass them to keep them from trying stunts like that again. It wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't one missing at all. Like I said...just a way to harrass the guy.
Tear gas would do it. Military grade tear gas (aka CS)is some strong stuff. It will make your eyes, skin and nose burn and your nose run without inhaling it. Inhaling it will do really fun things to you. I'd know...
"Okay, hold out your mask in front of you...HEY YOU! TAKE YOUR GOD DAMN MASK OFF! Okay, now put it back on." and the whole time people are falling to their knees gagging..
Several years ago the Sec. of Defense admitted its existence in a press conference. Hell, I can tell you what goes on there: nothing exciting. They test secret missile systems and secret aircraft.
The sad part is that alot of the stuff they'll end up adopting is stuff they already designed, turned down, and my branch (USMC) said hey thanks for the free R&D! and adopted.
Sometimes you just have to take the sorry job until you can prove to other employers that you're worth hiring at decent pay cause a) you'll stick around and b) you have a skill set and experience.
If you can't live off $13/hr, get a second job. I've said this before, if you want to get ahead, one job won't do it. I know guys from my time on active duty with the marine corps (which so far is limited) that were E-5s and E-6s who'd go into work for 12 hours 5 days a week, then work a 4 hr shift else where 4 of those days and an 8 hour shift on the weekend! And these guys didn't find it below them to work that part-time job at McDonalds or delivering pizza. I more than once ordered a pizza only to have one of my NCOs deliver it to me. Why were they doing this? Becuase they decided their pay wouldn't cut it and they wanted to get ahead. They were investing all of this extra money. Their military pay more than paid for their homes et cetera and they still saved some of it!

Also - wow, who cares.
Soviet America? That's a cheap shot.

I'm raising the BS flag on this.

Hey, if you don't like their product, don't buy it. Don't whine about "greed", just don't give them your dollars.

But who the hell is Ted Turner to talk?!

I'm playing the worlds smallest violin for the people who actually care about this.
Remember, government is the problem, not the solution.
How do you figure?!

Wow, slashdot has a new story saying how an analyst thinks linux will over take windows in the next 3 days.
Come on folks, I LOVE linux, but haven't we heard this song and dance before?

I'll start feeling loyalty towards my computer when it can talk to me and feel loyalty towards me.
*cough* Ooookay.
Pretty much. But that's the US govt in a nutshell these days.
