See, when it comes to manufacturing, the government demands tax payment up front on all goods produced, before they go to market. Ever wonder why there are end of year liquidation sales? This is why. --If you sell everything off or DESTROY goods, (as some manufacturers do), then you don't get to reclaim the tax you paid on them at the end of the year.
What you are describing is an "inventory tax". I don't know how things work in Canada, but in the US, this is more a local or state thing. The same thing with "Business Personal Property Tax", some places have it, others don't. I've done business in 3 states, none of them had an inventory tax.
When I was in Vermont I didn't even realize there was a business personal property tax until I read in the newspaper that the town voted to phase it out over 5 years to be more competitive (for attracting business) with neighboring towns that didn't have the tax. That's actually the first year they sent the form to my company, even though I had been there for 4 years.
I live in BumFuck Idaho [journalnet.com] So since I live here, I dont see the point of buying an HDTV.
Not too much different here in BendOver Oregon. There is no broadcast TV here, slightly closer to Boise than Portland. Based on my previous experience with DirecTV's overcompression, what is the point?
Why oh why do they still insist on charging tax as *extra* in retail stores in the US? It's a backwords second world country?
Salesdroid: Oh it's actually $105 including tax I lived the first 45 years of my life in states with sales taxes and moved to Oregon (with no sales tax) about 10 months ago. I'm finally getting used to the posted price being the actual price.
One of the problems implementing other languages efficiently using the JVM involves support for smaller than 32 bit integers, as well as unsigned numbers.
In my line of work I need to deal with binary data structures received over UDP/IP from DSP based systems. A lot of the data structures contain 16 bit signed and unsigned fields (it's a 16 bit DSP, so this is natural). These can be directly represented as records or structures in languages such as Delphi or C++, but a business associate using Java must use all sorts of tricks to access these fields.
From my research on the CLI it seems to have instructions for 8, 16, as well as the common 32 bit accesses into arrays and structures, as well as the support for unsigned data as well as the common signed data.
This may be one of the main reasons that Borland is coming out with Delphi and C++ compilers that produce CLI, whereas they never did so for JVM.
I checked into Oregon's do not call list when I first moved here. As I recall, it cost a consumer $6.00 for the first year and $3.00 per year after that. Seems to me that the telemarketers should be the ones paying the costs, not the consumers. Same sort of scam as paying extra for an unlisted number.
A company I do consulting for has named a number of programs after towns in New Mexico in a similar vain: Socorro, Mountainair, Willard, and Cimarron come to mind. But that was when I lived in New Mexico, now that I'm in Oregon that could change, but I doubt anyone will name something "John Day":)
Turns out it started at 5PM on our cable system here in eastern Oregon. Did anyone else get the feeling that Starbuck or Apollo might show up at any moment?
So, I suppose that you're going to ignore the numerous studies that show that "people of faith" have a higher survival rate for cancer and other long term illnesses?
I've noticed in the news that studies indicate that there are similar beneficial health effects from both religion and moderate drinking. Could it be that both are just simply escapes from reality?
It won't work on Opera unless you have opera identify as MSIE 5.0. Looking at the Javascript there is all sorts of conditionals depending on browser type, not what you want for a professional application. I guess it's just a lost cause....
As for sliders...that can be done graphically in HTML in a way that will work with (almost) all standard browsers, in any case more than those that support Flash. There are a lot more interactions in HTML than buttons, text, and combo boxes.
I wish I could find that code. A few months back I did an extensive web search for those. Nothing that would even work on Netscape, IE, and Opera. I just wish they would have put sliders into HTML, would only take a half dozen parameters.
So it's like Trumpet Winsock! anybody remember that?
Yup, in fact I used it (well, actually firesock) a few months ago to make use of a dial-up account while waiting for my DSL modem to arrive (delivered to wrong address by UPS).

Oh, it's about the Ross Perot type of giant sucking noise. For a moment I thought that Lewinsky and Clinton were at it again.

It's a private school, not public, hence no "free" iBooks.
That sounds too much like the gyroscopic type vehicle from South Park. I wonder if GM will offer the driver stability probes front and rear?
Might be 72 virgin goats.
Ximian has announced that in response they will change the name of the "mono" project to "syphilis"

I remember getting that email, I reported it to Spamcop just like I do with every other attempted extortion.
It felt pretty much the same then as it does now after 12 years :)
They make up quite a bit of that with very high property taxes.

That makes you do a horizontal scroll to read the text rather than word wrapping based on the width of your browser window.
Would actually get me to buy an Apple, but it will never happen.

No arguement there.
but you Yanks got what you deserve I 'spose
Don't blame me, I voted with the majority.
I've noticed in the news that studies indicate that there are similar beneficial health effects from both religion and moderate drinking. Could it be that both are just simply escapes from reality?
Of course they are unspeakable, farm animals can't speak.
I think most elephants have a large enough penis already.
I can't register using any web browser here, even IE. Passport.com is blocked at my firewall, along with other sleazy places like doubleclick.
Thanks for the link anyway.
