Christ this is bad, they get more for good grades than the company I work for gives out for bonuses.
I always got good grades so my Mom didn't beat my ass and ground me for 6 weeks til the NEXT report card. Some years I was grounded for an entire semester.
The problem is the two evils just keep getting worse, and you gotta choose one.
This is the reason the other parties never even get a good percentage of votes in an election. Most americans don't realize there are other options out there than republicrats. If you really want "change" look into the libertarian party: http://www.lp.org/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_political_parties_in_the_United_States read about the other parties. Don't be lazy and just pick the lesser of two evils, there's loads of other evils out there, expand your horizons.
I don't think a lot of people realize how little privacy we have. Black boxes in new cars, member cards for most grocery stores and pharmacies, internet access, going to the doctor...Just a few to add to your list. We have no privacy anymore and we've willingly let it go for convenience. We're all guilty of it and it's not just the US either.
You are ok with taxing cigs and booze, but when it's too expensive for people to buy, and the govt is getting NO tax money anymore...Guess what, they find other things to tax like video games, junk food, soda, coffee, tea, steaks...Each of those are bad for you and you need to stop. So lets tax you into oblivion to make you stop. Then we'll go after something else to make up that revenue.
I have a 1968 Mustang that rattles at 25mph...Old cars do that. But, since I upgraded the exhaust to deafening volume, the car really shakes, so at 40, I feel like I'm doing 70. Now going 120 it doesn't feel like it, but going slower does.
Maybe it's because by the time i get to 120 I'm already deaf.
I had a dog that thought it was hilarious to run around and bite my ankles. I would laugh at first, which would encourage her, then I would scream (it hurt) which would really egg her on, until someone would stop her.
She also thought it was cute to pinch the back of my hand with her front teeth when I wasn't paying attention. That hurt a little less than the ankle bites.
Rottweiler/Labrador mix made for a very smart dog with a lot of energy. I loved her though.
I have a 60Gb Creative Labs Zen Vision:M. I always dispose of the crappy ear buds and get a nice set of "real" headphones for when I actually use it as it was intended.
My Zen comes with an adapter so I can line into my Philips stereo here at work. No need for headphones, I just annoy everyone with speakers.:) It has a line out, just use a RCA to 1/8" jack and loud heavy metal music blasts through the warehouse.
Plus, my Zen works beautifully with Amarok. I get my podcasts, I can make playlists if I so desire, but the DJ feature, random all tracks seems to suit me just fine. I'm a little disappointed that Creative Labs decided to dump their larger players, the Zen 60 is a little big, but it's one of the coolest players I've ever seen.
During Prohibition my Grandmother used to go to speak-easys (sp?) with my Grandfather. She didn't drink much before or after prohibition, but during she did some. Why? It was taboo, it was exciting to do something bad.
Reason magazine did a fantastic article about 15 years ago on the pros of legalization. Prostitution should be legal too.

LOL! I have a 1968 Suburban that weighs about 7000lbs and because it's a covered truck, its considered an auto according to the DMV.
Sucks to be a big truck in Cali:D
They don't get smogged. If it is TRUELY a 60 era muscle car, like the two I have, then they don't get smogged. Nor do they need emissions controls like catalytic converters on their vehicles.
The Governator decided that nothing older than 1978 needed to be smogged. So, I just pay my $49 a year to register each car and no smog. And yes, I live in SoCal.
Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with
The same complaint. Both have trouble walking and
Appear to require a hip replacement.
The FIRST patient is examined within the hour,
Is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for
Surgery the following week.
The SECOND sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks
For an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist,
Then gets an x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another
week
And finally has his surgery scheduled for a month from
then.
Why the different treatment for the two patients?......
The FIRST is a Golden Retriever.
The SECOND is a Senior Citizen.
People go to the doctor too much.
I was 10, needed stitches in my leg, was taken to the emergency room which was filled with people with a cold. Yes, it was winter time, cold/flu season. My parents received a lot of dirty looks because i was admitted immediately, probably because I was bleeding all over the place.
If those people had to pay to go see a doctor they would think twice about how bad that cold really is. Tylenol cold is much cheaper.
by that logic we should all drive tanks so that when we get in accidents our cars survive but we die (crumple zones are designed so that the car absorb the energy from a collision rather than passengers).
Crumple zones are only effective if one plastic car is hitting another. I was hit by a Kia in my 1968 Mustang. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt, wouldn't have done me any good anyway, I only have lap belts. He had seat belts and airbags and he was dinged up, but I wasn't. His car was totaled and mine had about $1,400.00 in repair costs. He was going between 40-50mph and hit the drivers side of my front end (right under the bumper). His car is in a junkyard now, I still drive mine everyday.
I guess his crumple zone was the entire car, cause the whole front end was "crumpled".
I hate to get specific, because it has been such a long time since I read the work; but, consider the episode of Hank Reardon selling a batch of steel to the farm tractor manufacturer. The law forbade it, and supporting the tractor maker could get Reardon into trouble. Cost him a lot of money. But Reardon didn't gouge the man for the steel. Sold it at market prices. This is an example of non-reciprocal altruism, isn't it? Reardon saw a fellow human, that he respected, struggling and made an effort to help him.
Big difference is that he WANTED to do that. He wasn't forced into selling the man the steel or giving it to him by the Government. Ayn Rand wasn't against donating to charities if the person wants to. What's evil is paying taxes so someone can pop out 18 kids and sit at home on welfare watching soaps while the rest of us go to work everyday to support them.
I saw a bumper sticker once, that made me laugh...It went something like:

Wait, did you just impy that killing kittens is worse than killing people?!?
how do you impy? Is that something you do with an imp?
From the article:
The case studies looked at patients whose consumption ranged from two to nine litres of cola a day.
9 liters is enough soda to kill off 10,000 laboratory rats in one day isn't it?
I gave up soda last year when I was diagnosed with an Autoimmune disease. I figured the less crap I pour into my system, the better I'll feel.

This had to be the best and funniest april fools day joke I've seen so far on /.
Thanks for the humor!!!! :-)

Wow, that had to be the best reply to any story I've ever read on Slashdot. Cheers!
You mistyped something

I'll bet $20 that it won't be accurate. Never trust the Government or politicians. That includes the almighty messiah.

Cat's have NO personality...I should know, I live with two of them. Now dogs on the other hand...
that by the end of June we'll have new Mac commercials? I love those, they're funny!
The visual basic comparison is an insult to Satanism. Anton LaVey would be insulted.

My question would be "Has this woman procreated?" Now that's a scary thought.

- the *desire* for sex peaks just prior to menopause for women (circa age 35) and apparently never ends for men ;-)
Their "desire" may never end, but it's a matter of "can he still get it up without viagra after 35"? That really is the question.
