  1. Re:Old music industry scam on Smilin' Bob Not Smilin' Anymore · · Score: 3, Informative

Columbia house isn't a scam at least not at the level of this a-hole. My Wife got sucked into his brain pills which of course didn't work. She tried to cancel only to have her bank account sent into negative numbers by this company who repeatedly dunned her even after they said they wouldn't.

As to the (Columbia House) 11 albums deal that is totally owned if you can do a little simple math. There is even a forum dedicated to getting the best deals from this offer.

    http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=265650

I used them 20 years ago many many times I'd buy my 3 albums (including a nice 4 cd box set of the doors for a good price) get my 11 free, cancel rinse wash and repeat every 4 weeks or so. I built up a big collection of tapes and later cd's using this method. You only have to get the albums that are reasonable or good prices and then cancel (really easy to do compared to smiling bob)

    YMMV

    No they don't!

The clubs pay a royalty so they are allowed to play that music. There is a fee that club owners have to pay, before they are allowed to have a DJ spin tunes.

The music companys get there money regardless.

So true, I had a almost exact conversation with my Mom. She asked me about burners so they could have copies of their music at both houses.
I explained to her that if these types of laws were passed she would have to buy another copy of every CD she has, because copied music was illegal even if you had already bought it.
Needless to say she bought the burner.. :)

I don't think he is saying that everyone inside the network should be as concerned about security as the admin. What he is saying is that to many companies rely on the firewall to protect them and give them the warm and fuzzys. Not doing anything else inside the parimeter which is assuming that anyone inside is ok. Which is a terribly bad thing because one most attacks take place by people inside the company and two if someone gets in and drops a box inside the firewall there isn't any process of monitoring whats going on and it could be setting up a hole or attacking information from the inside out.

Sorry Rup but I have to agree with the AC. If I'm standing in line would you jump in front of me? So what makes you think it's ok when everyone follows the signs & is waiting in the correct lane
for you to speed up and hold everyone else back because you refuse to do what the sign told you 20 feet back.
I'm not resorting to threats or yelling, but I still say that your type needs a swift kick in the ass, or getting pulled out of the car like AC said and getting the crap beat out of you. Until then you go ahead & try, and I will be happy to flick you off as I leave you sitting on the side of the road with nowhere to go.
