sorry, but i take exception to the notion that public relations is propaganda. feel free to go right on believing that, but frankly, such an equivalency smacks of apologetics to me.
um...do you seriously not see a difference between public relations and propaganda? on a site like slashdot of all places, how is that possible?
public relations does not include things like calling fidel castro a transsexual. public relations would include things like posting stories about how bad conditions in castro's cuba. neither does posting anonymous self-praise comments seem to fall under the rubric of public relations.
well, OK, maybe they do but only in the most uselessly-broadened distortion of the phrase "public relations".
i think it's pretty clear that american manufacturers of e-voting devices are either unforgiveably incompetent or deliberately introducing devices with obvious non-security. i'm not sure which prospect i find more troubling, but to be honest, what i find even more troubling is the fact that the media largely appears to be ignoring the matter.
OTOH, since it's sometimes hard to prove IP rights violations, does this mean that monies collected through this tax but not restored to IP rights holders will be returned to the spanish citizenry from the SGAE?
what's that, the tax has no such mechanism? why does this utterly fail to surprise me?
"in the end, of course, corporate secrets have a short shelf life in a search engine age. entering "dalles google" as a google query turns up plenty of revealing results. but google earth, the satellite mapping service, like its rivals, so far shows the 30-acre parcel here quite undeveloped." am i alone in finding this particular tidbit interesting?

considering the selller sold the laptop, including its constituent parts (which include the hard drive and hence all data thereon), i'd say that he's the owner of that data.

i thought M$ had the reputation of an employer that rewards staff pretty well. i didn't think that they were doing badly sales-wise, and that's the only reason i can imagine for a change in their behavior. does anybody know when their 10k is due? end of march, presumably?
that seems like a really, really generous offer...OK, sorry, but someone had to say it, right?:>
on-topic: what if what you love to do is something for which you cannot be compensated sufficiently to make a living? i mean, i love watching movies and reading books, but am not very good at analyzing them at times. this means that i can't really be a critic, and am unlikely to find a job as one. i love to play RPGs, but you sure as heck can't be compensated for that, either.
yeah...um...you can keep elminster and drizzt, and the re-named tanar'ri and baatezu while we're at it. you can also keep the system in which there is no mechanical difference b/n your human fighter 20 and my human fighter 20 except for their magical goodies.
he obviously doesn't know much about the history between einstein and tesla to suggest having 'em work together on anything. einstein and tesla disliked each other, and the former launched a smear campaign against alternating current (tesla's idea; einstein was a DC advocate), vilifying it by lobbying successfully to have it used for electric chairs.
south korea also has (or at least did) laws on the books making it a crime to bounce a check. this is a reaction to KEB's stupid response to the matter. if KEB realized that a smaller payout then to their customers wouldn't require infrastructure changes globally to their operations, they would never have put all south korean banking into this position.
that can't help thinking of matthew broderick being sent to the principal's office just so he could check out the week's password in a certain movie? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091042/
this is a horrible idea! why does a sale b/n private individuals require licensing? this is the government attempting to get a piece of the action: nothing more, nothing less. licensing fees, required classes...WTF? if i own [property] and choose to sell it to [buyer], that's none of the government's business so long as no deception occurred.
it's a naked power grab, folks and represents an expansion of government power into citizens perfectly legal dealings. this should be rejected, and quickly, IMHO. doesn't ebay already have seller ratings and other protections?

why is it so very gorrammed hard to follow the method used in india (http://techaos.blogspot.com/2004/05/indian-evm-compared-with-diebold.html)? is that so very difficult?

you're arguing slippery slope, antikronos. sorry, but i don't see what you're describing as anywhere near inevitable.

er...you're assuming that the government will get their paws on google's data, which i just don't see happening.

monkeying w/ proxy servers is likely a violation of the acceptable usage policy as well, i should point out.

c'mon, if he released these earlier, you know we wouldn't all be thinking:

"this is not the cinematic master you're looking for."

precisely: this isn't an issue about windows being too vulnerable, as i'm sure windows admins know that. it's about preparedness.
