This isn't the "trekkers" doing it - It's the new fans doing it.
The "trekkers" Myself included - would rather see Enterprise go away because of Berman and Braga Destroying the timeline of the show.
If the new season were to move back into the timeline, and Berman and Braga were tossed into the street under a very large garbage truck - I'd donate to the project. The cast and crew are outstanding - The story "Arc" are laughable pale imitation copies of "Hey Archer did Everything and Caused Everything for Kirk".
No - this is a lawsuit on a Beta release that the lawsuit claims permanent and egregious damages from.
One would be led to belive that apple will lose the company all over the leak of a beta.. developer.. safari...
So now, some kid in Canada is facing fighting a lawsuit in California where no matter what - He's screwed financially no matter which way he goes. Over something that won't cost apple a dime.
It'll give me lots of jabs to toss at a guy I work with who is as firmly entrenched as a Mac dude as I am a PC dude.
Heck, I hear about it when Gates and Microsoft do stupid stuff , so why not give me some more ammunition as Jobs gets laughed out of court? It's got all the delicious points - A kid running a web site sued out of existance over disclosing something that ultimately proved to be a mountain out of a molehill.:)
You missed the memo - that game which you spoke of is to never be discussed or even acknowledged to exist.
I'll skip the beating I'm supposed to give you, and let you retain your pinkie fingers if you never, ever mention that game again. Not that the game ever existed mind you, I'm just mentioning it in a purely existential non corporal sort of way....
I'm polar opposite on that - FPS's take back seat to me and I'd rather load up evil genius, or Stacraft, or Dungeon Keeper.
I still pull out MOO, and MOO 2 all of which to me are better than doom 3.
I do confess I liked half-life.
My main beef with FPS's are when the authors get bored and do the "Jump or Die" bit - it isn't a three dimensional environment, and it doesn't take into effect balance so If I do slip or get knocked off because of a flying skull - I roll my eyes and talk about the developers small penis size for relying on something idiotic to slow the pace of the game.
And if you think that Halo builds that level you're easily impressed.
Want skill based games where you have to concentrate and not just memorize spawners? Try any of the tom clancy terrorist games - instead of running around and aiming at bushes you'll have to actually slow down, think and develop real reflexes.
irregardless, "Best game evah" needs to be a bit more than a FPS. And that's the main point.
It's a first person shooter = While "eye candy" is getting better, how will a first person shooter ever top real games like MOO, Diablo(s), Starcraft(s) or other enduring favorites like X-Com?
And actually, having played Halo - I think a better game for FPS was Clancy's Ghost Recon. At least that took some skill.
Has Apple received extra PR attention? Yes. Yes, So much so to show that they are willing to use dirty tactics to supress the first amendment. The target should of been the leak, not the one posting the information. Has Apple made it clear that it can and will do what it takes to suppress any leaks? Yes. Actully, no. There are many other ways to identify leaks - the best being drop multiple hooks to people that are suspected, and watch for the fake hook to be posted. Apple chose to misuse the civil laws for it's own bludgeon instead - Stamping on free speech. Apple is a profitable company, it doesn't need lawsuits to stay in business, cetainly not chasing its own tail or shooting in the dark lawsuits.
then they should of thought of that before doing something as assinine as this lawsuit. It was all Jobs's anger at a percieved "Loss of Thunder" which using the benefit of 20/20 hindsight was the equivalent of a mountain out of a molehill.//sets timer for the usual flamebait/troll mods for daring to speak against apple.
On a side note - Two minutes in between comments? WTF - I type badly a hell of a lot faster than that - One minute was bad enough - But two minute penalties - C'mon/. sheesh. Tie it to Karma or something instead of penalizing everyone.
Yep, The globe of Mars is warming http://www.canoe.ca/CNEWSSpace0112/06_mar s-ap.html
So Is the Globe of Pluto. http://archives.cnn.com/2002/TECH/space/08 /19/plut o.warming/ Now, How our SUV's are responsible for it, I don't know - But wow. GO USA!
Nope, we don't need that at all. All we need is to say that collectors of information are liable for whatever results from the use of the information they collected. And make it statutory. Take it three steps further - Outlaw Insurance on liability claims against the folks collecting information and shut them down if they don't pay.
Third Step? Allow the government to seize all profits from the individuals that got nailed by the law until the damages are paid off.
{{{groan}}} How long until the first viagra/virus joke gets included? I mean really, Microsoft and Pfizer? It's like shooting fish in a con - I mean barrel...
Yes, I was referencing the eugenics wars with a bit of sarcasm - I've railed to folks over their copy of the botany bay episode with spiner about how they screwed the pooch with the eugenics wars and would next have to have the clone wars to beat the empire to the punch since they ran out of things to copy in Star Trek. An inside joke I forgot to explain after my fourth beer went down:)
I was thinking in terms of how much it would cost to hire a writing team that's actually seen an episode of the original series.
Oh, they've seen them now, they rehashed pon far, and decided to meet the gorn (as well as play with the romulans) cause gosh gee darn, Archer did it all first! (Then forgot to update all the rest of the federation on how to deal with Those tellerites. We all know what a rube Jean Luc was when Riker had to explain how to deal with them...
Berman and Braga just don't care about the timeline. "Ren and Stimpy" pissed off the long time hard core fans, and that's why Enterprise is struggling.
It didn't have to be that way, they could of done the clone wars right - the orions right, and not gone with a half assed cheap shot of the vulcans being evil and demonstrative of the liberals view Bush Administration.
Time for the long Sleep Enterprise, It indeed will be the only star trek series I won't waste cash on for the dvd's..
Uh, why? It's not like one was preventing the other from being enjoyed.
Well, not enough were enjoying it to make it relevant. Had they catered to the real star trek fans and not totally ballsified the timeline and actually done a prequel that followed the genre, ratings would of been triple what they are.
Berman and Brage (the "Ren and Stimpy" of the star trek world decided to strike out in a bold new direction - And despite having an outstanding cast and crew - screwed it up royally.
In their Haste to have "Enterprise" meet/do everything first - they forgot the fans would bail en masse, and hence, I welcome the dissolution of a failed project.
Let me get this straight..... Intel(or most any other company).... getting something out earlier than expected... I felt a great disturbance in the force. The earth has stopped moving.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.... Now where's the latest mac ad - It's been over 24 hours since the last slashdot front page sighting....
I have to disagree with that. I'm not a Star Trek fan nor have I seen all of the movies. I don't know all of the character names in any of the shows. In fact I hardly can recall the names of the main characters.
However, out of all of the TV shows that I have given a shot, including the other Star Trek series when they ran, I really enjoy Enterprise. It is one of two shows that I try to watch every week and would hate to see it die off. Out of all the crap that they try to shovel down our throats on national television, Star Trek is most certainly a relief from it.
If you look at the bolded text - this is why the show is tanking - Non - fans are starting to dig it, and the fans were told to sit down and shut up.
That's why the neilsen ratings are teh crap, and they have to jump the great white every fifteen minutes in the show.
Had they not gone with the stupid premise of being a prequel, and outstanding cast could of done Oh so much, unfortunately, they were saddled with berman and Braga - the "ren and stimpy" of the star trek world.
Now I see why you needed the red herring - I had no idea that you were defining "purpose" to fit your own needs. What's next? A dissertation on the word "is"?
Then don't watch it dumbass, and let those of us who want to, to continue to watch.
Err, we are - that's why the ratings are plummeting, the trekkers have moved on and let the newbie trekkers watch.
Hence the cancellation.
This isn't the "trekkers" doing it - It's the new fans doing it.
The "trekkers" Myself included - would rather see Enterprise go away because of Berman and Braga Destroying the timeline of the show.

Reading that, I suspect that you both need to get out more
:)
You must be new here - after all, this is slashdot...
"What are the Damages?"
//sarcastic voice
//nervous cough
//muffled laughter
"Uh - Damages"?
"Yes, Damages"
"TRillions of dollars worth of sales?"
"trillions?"
"Millions?"
"Millions? Are you sure?"
"Err - Well, We think Microsoft ran out to copy our new button Design".
"Did they now - What release is it included in?
"None yet, But we're sure they incorporated it, and that's cost Apple Thousands at least".
Thousands?
"Yeah, the new button design would of made that one kid down the street stop being a windows user because of the new button design."
No - this is a lawsuit on a Beta release that the lawsuit claims permanent and egregious damages from.
One would be led to belive that apple will lose the company all over the leak of a beta.. developer.. safari...

Nice.
I say Jobs should take this to court.
:)

18 people?
Do you have any idea how much the Trek Franchise has brought in over the past half decade?
A hotel was built to be "Star Trek" in Vegas. Never saw a star wars or LOTR one.
Be sarcastic all you want, but Berman and Braga screwed it up royally pissing off the fans that have been following Trek since TOS.
Uh, why? It's not like one was preventing the other from being enjoyed.

1. Launch a web site in a particular genre but don't actually have any real functionality
2. Distribute a press release
3. PROFIT!!
Really? - I'm still looking for the button to pay for the search... Care to point it out?
