When a decorated war hero with a stellar legal record and positive, middle-ground ideas loses to a blantantly pro-corporation, anti-environment, pro-war moron, one has to wonder why there aren't more "conspiracy-laden mindsets on the left."
Plan:
1) Incorporate '???' profit into running gag on Slashdot similar to 'all your base' and 'in soviet Russia'
2) Bitch about Microsoft
3) Promote Linux
4) Fire Berman from a cannon for $5
6) Profit!
I had indeed thought you had meant from the individual level, propogating out to influence the macroeconomic level.
I don't have faith in the American populace to that degree... they are the same who elected W a second time around.
Thus your proposition to consume less, etc, as I saw it, WAS microeconomic. Macroeconomically, it cannot be done until political drive is there to do it (not for at least 4 more years)
You're thinking microeconomically. Put yourself into the macro world, and see the real issues that rise from a dropping dollar: international agreements all go to hell because the original ones were based on the assumption that US currency was worth something; interest rates skyrocket, causing businesses to have reduced income, which is then passed on to the consumer; Increased US dollars must be spent on supplies, so the cost for the same object increases, which is, of course, passed to the end consumer. Think wages will rise that quickly? Not under this administration... all the jobs being created are min-wage.
Also, when flashing the light into her eyes would shrink the pupil regardless, contaminating your 'study'. This of course is not to mention the mood-wrecking result of shouting 'You're Faking It' on obtaining a false negative...
The US economy is already dead.
China has been hoarding money for years in US dollars.
How does a nation compensate for one of the largest populations in the world holding its currency? If it's not doing it already, it's going to have to print more.
So what happens to the US dollar when China decides to spend its hoard?
Wow, that's disappointing; this is something Kerry really needs to address. With the advancement of Intelligent Design (see the latest edition of Wired or Google it) our development is being backtracked from the very basics: our children. The drive is to teach creationism in schools as a legitimate counterpart to evolution, despite the fact that it has no scientific evidence (the mathematics are flawed and skewed based on misunderstandings of macro/micro evolution), is picking up. Will kids weigh the two objectively? Hardly... they'll go with the faith they were raised on. More to the point, is it really appropriate to allow public schools to teach this considering the separation of church and state? No.
But then, this would be an election-killer answer south of the bible belt...
Is anyone else slightly concerned about the idea of flying taxi drivers whose prior experience consists of making people jump out of the way in Calcutta?
As it stands now, I just close my eyes and hand them the cash.
Anything that's public is takeable. If the police want someone's fingerprints, they may not be able to get them without a warrant, but they can snag the softdrink the person just tossed in the trash. The chat room is like a piece of paper someone has written a letter on then tossed out: now public domain. Once the person leaves a chat room (especially in something like IRC), the list is still there logged to your computer until you close the screen.
Interestingly enough, what about programs that log the chats automatically? I would have an easy time (I think) defending that trillian was logging without my knowledge as opposed to me physically copying a conversation without the other party's consent.
Perhaps you're unaware of the fact that everytime an invasion like this happens, there is an inevitable transition of power; initially, it is controlled by the invader (in this case, USA), and then control is finally handed off to the most together, cooperative organization of the indigenous people => translation, either the military or warlords, who want cash and control. Iraq wasn't liberated; Saddam's regime will be a beautiful memory compared to the upcoming governments, and because they will be US pawns, allowing all the oil they want to flow, as well as US military bases and weaponry (read Iran before 1979), NOBODY WILL INTERFERE WITH THE AUTROCITIES THEY COMMIT.
I sure as hell DO give a fucking goddamn about WMDs; the US has single-handedly made a dictatorial country (one of the few not ruled by Islam's fundamentalists, I might add) much, MUCH worse, without a GODDAMNED OUNCE OF PROOF....and as for 'the torture'... to quote Bill Mahr "Uh... yeah, during his dad's time, and [Bush Sr.] was so upset about it he almost interrupted his golf game."
Then every other country will be asking "Can you show our doctors how to do that? ...and thank [insert deity/famous randy supermodel] for that.
It is absolutely necessary for this to continue for the development of medical science. If it takes a bunch of chinese researchers to come to it first, so be it; perhaps it will humble the conservatives who are so quick to condemn stem-cell research, but who would be the first to demand by right a new heart for a dying relative.
Just because our level of rational has not been able to explain origins, or limits us to infinity does not mean there is a god behind it.
You have to remember that we're working by trial and error here... thousands of years ago, EVERYTHING was god. Now, just the existance of the universe and a few tips to the creation of human beings (for those who're so arrogant as to believe us necessary).
What will it be in the future? I'm not saying it's not possible, but for fuck's sake, why must people hold onto a concept that prevents alternative solutions and the scientific method from evolving our thought. I mean, if it were like Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, where mathematically it made perfect sense, I would probably go along with it... (although I really dislike it, as do many scientists for that matter...) but nothing 'proves' god. Nothing. God is a theory, like anything else, and one that cannot be subjected to the scientific method by nature of being a 'be all, end all' cop-out.
I noticed they're charging for the mp3 ripping... (understandable; they have to pay for the licensing) Couldn't they make a freeware 'ogg-pro' version that doesn't have to pay for the stupid mp3 licensing, and still gives people the 'pro' name? That would help ogg take off pretty seriously, I would think.
Neo did die... they expanded upon the entire religious allegory and basically portrayed him as Jesus. I certainly didn't want to think so (being agonistic), but consider that throughout the whole light spectacle on his body, there was a very obvious cross displayed, with him spread out in the Jesus Christ Pose (Soundgarden flashbacks...). He died for his people, everyone believed, yadda, yadda... essentially, I think the whole 'he may come back' is the same sort of allusion to Jesus supposedly coming back.
Hopefully the Wackowski brothers follow Jesus' example and stay the fuck out the story thereafter. The trilogy was great, but bringing Neo back would be nothing but an attempt to further milk the series.
advertising for drugs is extremely limited in Canada
As well it should be! I saw a drug add with women lying in the sun and children playing in a park, saying, "Ask your doctor for X."
I had NO idea what the hell it did, it's side effects, or why I should make decisions that my doctor went to school for over 8 years to be able to do.
Drug adds are a sad example of Corporate America having more say through piece-of-shit advertisements than our most educated and respected citizens. It makes me so goddamned sick.
...whose albums are to be listened to AS ALBUMS... consider Pink Floyd, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins (Adore flowed together)... many artists have to butcher songs to release them on the radio because people absolutely need a hit single. It's really sad that that whole radio mentality has to be perpetuated. I'm not saying that some albums aren't full of filler shit, but if you're unsure, go into a damned store and listen to the CD first. If you know that an album is far more as a whole, then don't degrade the artist by downloading the hit single for $2 a pop.
Let's get one thing straight: I'm not pointing shit at windows. What I am saying is that windows clients are far more likely to have the open exploits, such as outlook, such that linux script kiddies can use to turn them to zombie boxen.
I use windows, and I advocate the change of IRC to at least ban the majority of script-based clients. Regardless of my views however, they are a far distance from that of a white supremecist; if you want to be recognized as having valid opinions, I suggest you stop making such sensationalist comparisons.

He said it in a fund-raising letter. Diebold systems are incredibly easy to hack, and almost certainly helped in the voting irregularities in the 2004 election.
To top it off, a highly partisan republican, Kenneth Blackwell, managed the votes in Ohio and has been uncooperative in investigations.
This says nothing of the exit poll discrepancies...

Holy shit, it works!
Deja Vu.

It would take quite a bit of a drop to be able to match the value derived from wages paid in manufacturing countries such as China, Taiwan, etc.
You're thinking microeconomically. Put yourself into the macro world, and see the real issues that rise from a dropping dollar: international agreements all go to hell because the original ones were based on the assumption that US currency was worth something; interest rates skyrocket, causing businesses to have reduced income, which is then passed on to the consumer; Increased US dollars must be spent on supplies, so the cost for the same object increases, which is, of course, passed to the end consumer. ahh... "anarchist government"... an oxymoron just like "military intelligence" and "temporary tax increase"
Also, when flashing the light into her eyes would shrink the pupil regardless, contaminating your 'study'.

Must they drown out the good stuff with shit like Nickleback and Brian Adams... ugh.
Pulling things across the boarder is easy; take it out of the box and declare it as a gift. It's not new, it's not taxable.
I noticed they're charging for the mp3 ripping... So because a few Canadians say 'aboot', you assume we all do.
How many Americans I've heard say 'aBOAT' or 'TOR' (instead of tour)...

My wife called him Sharky, and refuses to call him by anything else.
Coincidentally, she named Tifa "1+1 Dood", Yuffie "Squeaky", Red "Meat", Cid "Flagbutt" and, *smirk* Barret "Mr. T"
I was mortified and howling with laughter at the same time. Square would never be the same.
