...and also have seperate servers in New York Telehouse which serves all the content for the people on the other side of the Atlantic.
so why the hell do they ask me if I'm in the UK or not whenever I go to their site?
Here's how to update to the latest cooker graphically.
first open up the 'mandrake control center' (under the 'configuration' menu)
click on 'software management' on the left
click on 'software sources manager'
click on the 'add...' button
for the 'type of source', choose 'FTP server'
type in a name (like cooker)
for the URL, you can point it to 'ftp://sunsite.uio.no/pub/unix/Linux/Mandrake/Ma nd rake-devel/cooker/i586/Mandrake/RPMS'
for the 'Relative path to synthesis/hdlist' enter '../base/hdlist.cz'
click Ok and wait a minute while it downloads the hdlist
click on 'save and quit'
now once you're back in the control center, click on 'Install Software'
Next to All packages there's a scroll box, choose 'by update availability'
expand the upgradable branch and select the packages you want to update, or click on the checkbox next to upgradable to select them all. once you've selected what you want click on install and wait until it's done.
quit out of the software packages installation (which should read software package installation, but try arguing that one on the cooker list and see how far it gets you!)
A common (but rather misguided) complaint is that NetWare has crappy multiprocessor support - because one CPU is at 95% utilisation and the other is idle. Ever considered there's no need to use the other CPU(s) if the first isn't maxed out? =]
up until netware 6, novell's support for smp was simply 'it won't crash with more than one processor, but dont expect us to use it'. with netware 6 they rewrote the nlms to use threading and now netware 6 really does support smp.
having one processor pegged and the other idle on a dual processor box is a pretty good sign that whats running doesnt use multithreading.
has anyone had any luck compling kmozilla (from kdebindings). I can never tell if it's mdk cooker's fault for failed compiles or simply some untested code.
what about contrails and wake turbulence? I know that a 757 will leave a wake trail miles long behind it, now what will happen at 100,000 ft (~30km) where the air is thin and the plane is travelling at mach 7.6. Also, what sort of contrails would be formed, and considering contrails effect the climate, and the fact that the primary ozone depletion is between 15km and 20km up, how would having planes routinely flying through this chunk of the atmosphere effect our planet?
OK, this is America, we got nukes. so many nukes as a matter of fact that we are taking them apart and burying them, why not just put on the best 4th of July firework display ever, and, as an added bonus, vaporise a buttload of space junk? Aside from the massive EMP that would happen, would nukes really work at getting rid of some of the larger peices of junk? What about the blast pushing sattelite out of their orbits? Sounds like fun anyway....
bless your soul! all apps need to come with a complete list of keyboard/mouse shortcuts so that I don't use things for years just to discover my backwards ways.
You should watch it again. In the second scene, it shows jar-jar, anakin and obiwan saying sup to amadala, granted he doesn't jump out and yell, "meesa back", but his sorry ass is there.
I recently bought a Casio MP3/CD player and it works great. 650MB-700MB's of mp3's is a lot of music to be carrying around on a single cd. The thing only cost $100US and came with a tape adapter and an AC adapter and car power adapter (whatever they're called) plus some headphones. If you already have a CD recorder, that's $100 for a much better product than a minidisc player IMHO, and even if you don't a CD recorder only costs ~$40 according to pricewatch. The cheapest minidisc player/recorder I have seen around is about $150US, which is 10 bucks more for around 140 less songs per CD. As for the media, blank minidiscs I have seen for $30 for 10, whereas I just bought another 50 pack of blank CDs for $15. The choice seems pretty clear to me...maybe the americans consumers are correct for not buying minidiscs!
You should take a look at the License agreement for AT&T@home (I'd link it, but their site is down...I wonder why?) You'ld be surprised at how many of their rules you are breaking, they don't allow you to run web servers in the first place. I generated a huge list of IPs that are infected with Code Red just last week and was going to send it to AT&T, but decided to make sure they wouldn't string me up for it first and it's a good thing I didn't.
"Explosions lit up the night sky in Kabul, Afghanistan, CNN reported September 11, 2001. The Cable News Network showed footage of a series of flashes and flames in the Afghan capital. 'There are missiles flying across the city... apparently large incoming missiles,' a CNN reporter said. The report came hours after a major terrorist attack on the U.S. destroyed New York's World Trade Center towers and damaged the Pentagon near Washington."
yeah right that all goes to paint!

what about kwave? I'm not too familiar with what cooledit is like these days but kwave has most of the features I used to use in cooledit 95.
here's what they say...
if you get the following errors compiling the kernel (as i did),
....
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.5.3/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wno-trigraphs -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -pipe -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=i686 -malign-functions=4 -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -c core.c
core.c:10: linux/malloc.h: No such file or directory
....
copy a malloc.h file from an older kernel to the include/linux directory. I copied the one from linux-2.4.17 and it compiled fine.
"At least 2½[and a half] crew members are needed merely to operate the ISS."
Wouldn't it be safe to round that up?

Perhaps they forgot that you have to be ~17 to drive in most states! I think most 12 year olds would get tired of a car like that.

can anyone back this up.
