  2. yeah, time for OSX on Time To Dump XP? · · Score: 1

It's gotten to the point where there's no reason to use windows any more aside from in a VM.

Plug a mouse into Windows XP, 7, whatever version and then Windows will tell you, New Hardware Detected, please wait while we install your drivers, Yay! You device is now ready use about 60 seconds later.

Plug a mouse into OSX, it works immediately. done. I don't care what it had to do to make it work, just do it.

Same with flash drives. Same with desktop search. Same with Application installation. Same with damn near everything.

If you want to waste time and worry, use Windows. If you want to use a computer, use OSX.

  3. still no / search on Google Releases Chrome 5.0 For Win/Mac/Linux · · Score: 1

5 major versions deep and still no forward slash search. Until they hook up / to cmd+f I'm going to have to stick with Firefox. It seems so simple and so many people have asked for that feature that I'm really surprised to not see it added.

I'll give them this. The ability to drive a GUI with just a keyboard. From moving and resizing windows to sane tab ordering they just have that down. OSX it half baked and every app I've ever used in Linux can't figure out tab ordering. When the mouse goes out, windows is the only bet.

I'm in the process of recovering all my data after I had both the drive I was working with and my backup disk go at once.

I was playing with my primary drive, maybe a little rough, but I figured my time machine backup was solid and I had just updated it before delving into this project.

Long story short, the time machine backup was erased because the volume was picked up by another OS X installation and when asked if I wanted to use it for Time machine I said no. Then I went to use the backup and it was gone.

Right now I'm running r-studio to try to recover the data.

Anyone know any other HFS+ undelete tools?

Since the upgrade I've had no voicemail too! Awesome. I did get a $20 credit from AT&T on my bill but it's still not working. They say Oregon and Washington are having problems and have since Thursday 9/10/9 and they're not going to have it fixed until Wednesday. That's 1 week of no voicemail for a sizable chunk of users. Nice.

This reminds me of when Australia first introduced the new plastic notes back around 1990. The first plastic note was the $10 bill and they went through all sorts of tests on it and finally released them just to find out that if you left them in your car in the summer they would shrink! Needless to say they re-released the notes with a different type of plastic.

  13. My own experience on The Perception of 'Random' on the iPod · · Score: 1

I always found that the pattern of "random" on the ipod was pretty easy to pick out. It seems to only like a certain set of music; some stuff gets played all the time while some things never seem to get picked. The interesting thing is that when you put more music on there and seems to bump the whole shuffle order around, so things that were never coming up before all of a sudden start getting picked.

I wonder what it would take get something like amarok to bump the files around? Maybe a simple function to remove 10 "random" albums and then re-add them would be all that's needed to get a much better shuffle.

An interesting side note on this is that Hermiston, OR is where Umitilla Ordinance Depot is located. For those who aren't familiar with this facility, this is one of two places in the United States where chemical weapons are destroyed, the other being in Arkanasas. About 12% of the US stockpile of VX and GB (nerve agents) and HD (blister, or "mustard" agent) are stored as liquid in various types of munitions and containers, including rockets, bombs, projectiles, mines, bulk containers, and aerial spray tanks.
