    Remember when the science channel had the slips with William B Davis(sp?) The Cigarette Smoking Man calling BS on things like UFO's, physic surgery, etc. Now it seems like they are advocating that stuff. I've seen about 20 minutes total of Ghost Hunters and it makes my stomach turn to think that a show like that is on a science channel.

    And this begs the question: what is the evolutionnary benefit of cancer?
    Why does it have to be a benefit, why can't evolution sometimes make a bad turn, am I alone in thinking that not every mutation has to be a good one.

    PS. I still prefer the old meaning of "Begging the question"

    Because when he spent 2000 dollars plus to buy it off eBay he didn't pay attention to the "all sales are final" bit at the end.

    Seriously though I don't know. I've had bought a lot of products in my life that didn't and have returned them. Product x doesn't work as well as it did in my imagination, oh well life moves on. I suspect he doesn't want to give it up. He wants his cake and eat it too. Seems slightly ridiculous to me.

    I want to see the proof for "most people" argument that the general populace is dumb. All to often I see a story like this on /. and some posters use the comment most people are too dumb to understand this technology. I want to see proof that backs this up. Is the general population that dumb where they can't be educated or do you just want trying to make yourself superior?

    Couldn't agree more.

    And this is the problem with using analogies. You can chose which comparisons to make that make your point look good. I don't like it when people start using analogies, I don't see how one situation or circumstance can be used to explain a completely different situation or circumstance. Does anyone else feel me?

    At least as far as providing a list of all the developers who touched the code wouldn't closed source be easier. I'm sure MS could pull a list of all it's Windows developers. Can the same be siad about some of the open sourced OS's?

    Nice try. I was giving an excerpt form the article. the Parent post said that it must be ok when a company does what Kevin Mitnik did. I'm offering proof that it isn't and that both civil and criminal charges are either being considered or are being filled.

    I realize the players are different here but didn't Kevin Mitnick spend years in jail for stuff like this? I guess when a corporation hacks a consumer it's OK.


    Oh man nothing like sucking up to /. to get a +5 insightful. No it's not Ok . If you would follow the news you would see that several states and contries are consider criminal charges against Sony. A quick news.google search will give you a result like this "Legal threats are now being discussed in some countries, notably the US and Italy, including criminal charges of computer misuse. For example, on 21 November the Texas State Attorney General Greg Abbott filed a civil lawsuit against Sony seeking civil penalties of $100,000 per violation of the state's Consumer Protection Against Computer Spyware Act." from Ovum

    Am I alone is thinking so what. I could not care less that I will be able to go to www.a.com. I'm actually surprised that they didn't always allow single letter domain names. Besides we already have 6 of them one of them being X.org. According to the CNN Article the only reason we haven't had access to the remainder where some outdated fears. Please tell me why this should bother me. Please tell me why I should be upset. Right now I can't think of anyway this should get me upset.

    The parent has a great point, any good cost model should allow you to lower production cost as technology improves, manufacturing technology in Microsoft's case. One more point how do we know Microsoft isn't getting some kind of bulk discount or have some favored partnership with their suppliers.

    I few months ago I heard a few stories on the radio about (a misnamed) DVD music disks and players. The stories said that the quality will be so much better and they will be able to put much more content on to the disk and as the time I was thinking how much better can the audio quality get and how much more content can you put on the album , they only thing I could think of was this would be a way to make all the old stand alone players obsolete and they could start over again and put DRM in to all the players stand alone or not.

    I was also thinking some one should explain to them what the V stand for in DVD.

    Bogus is exactly right. Our company, an IT company that employs over 100,000 people worldwide has the sysadmin people in cubes. They can store the equipment in either lockable cabinets or is the server room. Sorry but this article just sounds childish and elitist.

    Knowing very little of cars and having not done well in Chem II when we talked about batteries I will say that I don't really woory about the effects of the cold on my battery in my car. Why is this battery different?
