  12. Already Better Than New Opera on Opera Founder Is Back, WIth a Feature-Heavy, Chromium-Based Browser · · Score: 3, Interesting

The original dream we hardcore Opera users had was replacing the Presto engine with Blink, but wrapping it with the feature-full Opera interface experience. That was more a pipe dream. Vivaldi already has more of the old Opera features than the new one does. It's a technology preview, so it's got a lot of rough edges, but the spirit of the old Opera is there.

  13. Read the Book on Blade Runner 2 Script Done, Harrison Ford Says "the Best Ever" · · Score: 2

It's way better than the Blade Runner movie, although the movie depicts the feel of the environment incredibly well. The story is pretty thin, though, compared with Dick's story. Dick turned down an option to write a "dumbed-down" (that is, change the Rosen Corporation's name to Tyrell Corporation, wink wink nudge nudge!) version of his story for publication with the movie release.

Not at the moment. They continue to use Presto in Opera Mini and in embedded, so they don't want to open source it, no explicit reason beyond that given. (I read this at the http://blogs.opera.com/desktop site in the comments to one of the posts, can't find it...)

  19. For Those Who Forgot about Opera on Former Dev Gives Gloomy Outlook On Linux Support For the Opera Browser · · Score: 4, Informative

Opera users typically were hardcore about it, and would only let go when you pried their cold dead hand away from it. I've been a longtime Opera user...the new version is derisively called "Chropera" and I've dumped it. It's just bad, so many of the things that made Opera are gone, so why use this Chropera? It didn't even have a bookmark manager, just that stupid Speed Dial. And then there is the general evasiveness of the devs, especially about a Linux version. So if you've forgotten about it, consider it a mercy. For those of us who loved using Opera, it's very painful.
