Gameboy is the last refuge of new, quality 2-D gaming. Am I the only one that misses spirites? I remember thinking someday we'd have anime quality 2-D games, now I guess I'll never see animation quality Street Fighter IX in an arcade. =/
Am I the only one that thinks the wearable market, at least for right now, is a little overrated?
I certainly hope so. The thing that strikes me is that most early adopters would be lazy fucks like me, and we'd all look stupid sitting motionless in a chair wearing this kind of gear. Seriously, I can't imagine what I would actually do with a wearable. What, am I going to read/. while rollerskating or something? I don't really get it.
I thought the future was going to get bigger, brighter, better, and flying (cars). Now as I get older, and understand more about population issues, it seems we are going to have to come up with more and more clever ways of re-using waste products. I suppose this is better in the long run (?) but hopefully I will still be able to drive a flying, shit-powered car before I die. Hopefully I can get the OUTATIME vanity plate someone else in my state does.
People wondered what impact Apple and their interface would have on the other 'nixes. I am pretty stoked to see what comes of this. We could be looking at the golden age of desktop 'nix right around the corner. If KDE/Gnome can just come up with something unique and useful , and chuck the Win98-ish crap....
"One time in a dream I was being chased up a hill by *something* and I slowed down to a crawl. Before long I couldn't move."
This is how 90% of my dreams end, and I remember my dreams almost every night. About half the time, this takes the form of me being extremely drunk/stoned in the dream. I usually realize what is going on, and try like hell to make myself move again. This usually wakes me up. I don't recall being paralyzed upon waking, except for one occasion. I agree wholeheartedly, this does indeed suck.
This is just like any other platform bashing. Console, PC manufacturer, text editor =), whatever.
I plunked down for the Saturn shortly after launch, and was very happy with it. NiGHTS, Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally, perfect translations of the Street Fighter games, I could go on and on. What's that? You didnt like/play those games? Maybe thats why you liked the PS better. Consoles then, and now, are about the games....duh.
I can't stand cell phones, I don't need or want one, and I don't plan on getting one now. Maybe I have become truly die hard cynical, but this smacks of another case where I am being herded into buying something I don't need, because the public (read free or optional) alternative was taken away from me. I am so moving to Canada or Australia.
"...think of your mom, little sister or brother (if any), peers at school (if any) - all those people who click "OK" mindlessly whenever a dialog box pops up."
Get the word out. Post flyers. Put it in your sig.
Yeah, because my mom thinks all my sigs are +1 Informative...she told me so.
Let's face it... The money would have gone to the military.
Isn't that where most of the fruits of space research end up going (directly or indirectly) anyway? Yes, telecommunications and such have been a boon to us all(?), but isn't that what these things were originally designed for? Even when the shit doesn't work? (see SDI) =)

I definitely agree with everything you said. I really do. Bugzilla, and Moz itself, both kick much ass.
But for some reason, this post sounds like something Mao would say if he were a 21st century geek. C'mon, doesn't it? =)
Gould and Sagan were two of the greatest scientists/authors of all time, making a true effort to bring science to the level of the common man, and fighting pseudoscience at every turn. With both of them gone, they leave behind shoes that cannot be filled. A true loss for everyone, even those unfamiliar with Gould's work.
One where all the smart people who are concerned about privacy start a mass exodus to countries where this kind of thing will not be tolerated by the public at large. Scary to say, but here in the US, we will swallow anything that A) fights Evil(tm), or B) Makes our neighbors jealous. I see the potential here for both.
"I don't know about you guys, but back in the prime of the X-Files, these guys were as close a role model as I could find on television as a kid."
Wow, and all this time I felt silly for looking up to Mr.Wizard. I wish I had gone to your school, where I could have given the wedgies instead of recieving them.=)
When I got my Cube, I went with the matching display, and after using it for awhile, I refuse to go back to CRTs. I know people that can't stand them, but they really have come a long way. This thing is clearly viewable at a 45 degree angle, hardly any glare whatsoever, and bright, crisp colors.
The punchline is, I do graphic/web design, where LCDs are traditionally pariahs. =)
Disney is "highly creative" now? Granted, I'm not a big fan, but the last two Disney movies I can think of off the top of my head are Tarzan (thats never been done before),and Atlantis (apparently a close approximation of an older anime movie). I saw a commercial the other day for "Cinderella II" on DVD. Whatever magic there ever was left that kingdom long ago.
It will create a generation of people willing to tolerate a severe invasion of their privacy for "the greater good"...had our ancestors been raised that way, we wouldn't even be here. (see.sig =))
Can anyone explain to me why this game is not exactly like playing with Barbie dolls? Granted, I play lots of console games...maybe this is another thing I just don't "get". =)
"Anime is today what video games were seven years ago -- an entirely different style of entertainment that will be mainstream in the very near future," Kasanoff said.
man, that is downright Katzian. Mr movie guy Kasanoff, please go drown yourself. I'm tired of all my interests becoming "the next big thing".

But with all the TV ads I see touting MSN against AOL.......
Sorry, but I just look at MSNBC as a slightly skewed news source when it comes to things like this.
Well, I would have modded this up. Straight fell out of my chair. =)

Republicans in the White House.
Economy making slow recovery from recession.
We have a boogeyman again (Axis of Evil (tm)).
Hawaiian shirts at the mall.
My tax dollars are funding ridiculous sci-fi inspired defense schemes.
People chant "USA" at the drop of a hat.
Now all I need is to ressurect the Where's the Beef lady, and my flashback will be complete. What year is it again?
