    Not the 30" cinema, but one of thier smaller ones. Still gorgeous. Im in the same camp as you (dont own an ipod, but the hated macs pre osx.) Ever since i got into linux a year and a half or so ago, i find myself wanting more out of my PC, and windows doesnt have enough cli for me :) My girlfriend asked me yesterday how i remember "all that code" when using my computer (i was just mounting a samba share via cli). I told her that for me, it is easy, and even if i had a gui to mount the samba share setup, command line is faster for me. Then again, for her, a pc is a tool, not a hobby.

    I have a (soft)modded xbox, and i can say that i've seen my fair share of pirated games. However, in less than 6 months, ive bought 20 games, pirated 5 (bought 3 of those 5 later), its a try before you buy thing. That, and its cheaper than gamefly or blockbuster to rip a friends copy of Mercenaries before i buy it. Oh, and copied xbox games just look like regular dvd-rs. So your not missing a whole lot. I know many console gamers, and even in teh backwoods area of teh world i live in, about 1/4 have a modded console. Thats mostly due to my geekyness being infectious.

    Count me in as well. I can spot a 60 hz flicker a mile a way, its so bad that i really detest using crts, the lower eyestrain on lcds helps me out alot. I can also hear TVs, more so if they are on a blank channel or snow. This topic is hilarious, i thought i was one of the few weirdos who this happens to. PS. My eyesight is terrible, and i have bad astigmatism. Maybe this is part of the reason?

    Its funny, yesterday i was thinking about buying some tivo stock, because it was so low (below $4), that a little bit couldnt hurt for a young professional such as myself. Woulda made a killing if i bought a few (lot) and sold it this morning, peaked over $6 early this morning. Ah well, next time ill go with intuition...

    I wasn't warned of these dangers, per se, but I personally dont like buying anything with money i dont have. I've earned everything i have (though, its not a lot), but it gives me an extra bit of satisfaction over friends of mine who were either given what they have, or paid for it with money they don't. I have a small car, a few older PCs, confortable couch, etc, and its all mine.

    not odd,I find it scary. Having to think about buying a new car, house, etc in the next few years, with collge loans on top of that, ugh. Maybe ill wait till the crash and get the mansion ive always wanted for dirt cheap :)

    Hey, at least we both got As in her class, why she was teaching intro to buisness information systems and is an "internet expert" is beyond me... ugh, 8:30 am class, having to listen to her. Not a moment that I recall being good.

    Id like to see this, but fandango doesnt even have it listed as a movie. Any idea where i could find information on where this might be playing? not that it will ever come within 100 miles of where i live, being in the middle of nowhere.

    Agreed. Only in the past year or so have i really gotten into the used game scene. I bought my xbox in the middle of October, ive got like 20 some games for it already. Only one was new (halo2, not worth it) Buying used allows me to buy more games. Dont know why everybody wouldnt want more games...

    I trive a 97 toyota tercel and live less than 2 miles from my work place. One tank of gas (11 gal) lasts me quite a while. Not like my suv driving friends who live a ways away from their workplace and fill up weekly... heh. I also now have a room full of computers that are not being used becuase theres really no need. My xbox and laptop are really all i need, but then again, my laptop is also the fastest machine i have (and i cheat by charging it at work...) Dont get me started on natural gas prices though. It costs a fortune to keep my apartment at 68 degrees F in the new york winter

    agreed. As i posted earlier, i did the same when i graduated from college last may. Dont miss it one iota. Its kind of liberating really, not having to be home to watch a show, or invest money for a pvr so that i dont have to be home, etc.

    a-freaking-men. After graduating from college, I never got around to ordering cable. And, oddly enough, I dont miss it. Theres a random show or two I'd like to see (athf, southpark) but I'll grab an episode or two from the net to tide me over till I get the dvd. For now, my tv is used for playing my xbox and piping video from my PC to play Worms Armageddon. Some of my friends say me having a tv is a waste, but then they hang out, have a good time, and realise they dont need cable either...

    I've used premiere to edit together individual segments rendered for a student 3d animation. Id never really used a video editing program before then, and i didnt find it to be too rough. I probably less than scratched the surface, but i found it to be really user friendly as well as producing a nice quality final render of our animation (which wasnt accepted to siggraph's space competition)

    That has always driven me nuts. Im no fan of java, and the community isnt winning me over with eclipse. Instead, i use jCreator for my java needs. You can compile a java file without having a project. Geinus! That, and the UI isnt molassas like eclipse is on my machine (which is 2+ ghz and 512 mb of ram...) fewer button to accidentally click and fast respose. I love it

    Heh, i also just realised that i live less than a block from a comic/gaming store. I do remember mom n pop type stores being expensive, but im sure paying for shipping from the UK wont be cheap either. I live in a big ass apartment by myself and its kind of become the geek haven for my friends: confortable couch to sit and play xbox on, a nice network setup, and i got a big spare room that would rule to have a table to play 40k on. I remember getting the starter set back in the day (98 maybe?) and then buying second hand models from friends and repainting them. Several of my friends quit playing when others started, the armies just shifted hands. I built up quite an impressive space marine army quickly for a low price, and then spent every day after school fighting with my friends' dark eldar and orc armies. Oh man, to be young and have that much free time again. I better stop reminiscing before it costs me too much money.

    Ahhh, thanks, thats just what im looking for. We used to play these sort of games sometimes, but never had an offical name for them or anything. Back in the day, when 40k was only half the afternoon (soul caliber on the DC the other). Now im over at GW's site, and my credit card is bracing for an impact, im sure.

    I played 40k in high school, sold my army after i went to college. I was 16-18 when i played. Now that Ive graduated and have a "real" job, im contemplating getting back into it. Ill still be younger than what you've seen, being only 22 now. Only problem is that there is nobody in this hick town i live in to play.

    Fight Club. Chuck is a good writer and all, but I like the ending of the movie much better
