  1. What's Flash? on New Zero-Day Vulnerability Found In Adobe Flash Player (gbhackers.com) · · Score: 1

Steve Jobs declared the end of Flash in 2007. 10 years later (or 11 if your round really up), it has been true for a couple of years. I'm still surprised that I see Flash video from a local major content supplier. I'm not the guy to fix it, but I'll be happy to enlighten people (let's talk in fact).

  2. How long is temporary? on The White House Is Temporarily Shutting Down Its Petition Website (gizmodo.com) · · Score: 1

How long is temporary? For humans, it is (at most) 100 years. Temporary for a dam is 700 years. In the universal scale, it is too scary to think of.

  3. Stupid Answer on Ask Slashdot: Are There Any Alternatives To Android Or iOS? · · Score: 1

Find a phone that has battery requirements you like and run VPN software on it. Doesn't solve the security requirement though.

  4. Basic Info on America's 'Rent Crisis' May Be Ending (fortune.com) · · Score: 1

If you are looking to move every 18 months, you are best renting. If you found a place you want to live for a long time, you are better buying. Short term investments are always a gamble. Long term investments (typically) increase in value in the long term.

  7. To quote Sean Spicer (for the first time for me):
In response to a question about whether Trump’s tweets should be taken seriously as the positions of the White House, Spicer replied that Trump “is the president of the United States, so they’re considered official statements by the president of the United States.”

  9. How do you pronounce API? on Ask Slashdot: How Do You Read Code? · · Score: 1

The only time I passed judgement was when someone pronounced "API" as "App-Ee" (please don't make me upload an audio file of that). Of course, I politely asked them to get off my lawn.

  11. Kind of like drug testing on Why Making Facebook Private Won't Protect You · · Score: 1

I had one job offer that would have required me to take a drug test in order to take the job. While I knew that I would pass, I felt that it was something that I would never do for a job. I told the company that if my word that I don't do drugs was not good enough for them, then there was no point in hiring me. I walked away from the whole thing. Honestly, if you don't like the requirements to get the job, don't take the job.

This is an idea that Jef Raskin proposed in The Humane Interface. Not necessarily changing the key combination to hit, but forcing the user to type something that is in the dialog box. You may not want this type of dialog box for all dialog boxes, but it would certainly be useful for dialog boxes containing critical information.

I was looking at the weekly ad for Target on Sunday and came across an iPod compatible microwave. I can see the usefulness behind some of the others on the list, but this one left me scratching my head (maybe it is the crappy looking implementation).

  20. Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding on Is Math A Sport? · · Score: 1

Yes, this is the winner for the answer. We've all become accustomed to associating physical exertion or physical acuity with sport. However, from a definition point of view, a sport is mearly something that provides a diversion. Basically, if someone is willing to watch it, then it is a sport. So in that vain of thought, if someone is willing to watch me post to slashdot, then posting to slashdot is a sport!
