Well, chances are that anyone with any relation to MIT that would have heard the MIT quote first has a minimum technical background and would have already signed up for slashdot.
Tip for sending it out: I usually have 2 versions, one being the short and to the point visual aid to my presentation, and one being a bit more fleshed out (which is the one I send out), which serves not only to make it so that they don't need to take notes, but also is a better reference document compared to the quick one I use to present.
If I were Blue security, I would stage this whole thing, blame it on some "evil spammer" and laugh maniacally as everyone signed up to my service. Incoming notoriety!
I was wondering if there were any statistics between RIAA's drop in sales and independant labels' increase in sales.
Not ever record label in the states is an RIAA member, and to be honest, since I started downloading mp3s, I've bought more cds but nearly all of them were from non-RIAA members (not as protest, but because that's the music I like!)
I don't think the RIAA could even come after me for trading these files, since it's not even their intellectual property:P
Obviously the people who buy stuff from unsollicited emails are the same people who answer DMA's surveys.
I'm not a stats major but I -was- a marketing major (I have since killed myself) and I very much doubt that DMA has a field of 1000 unbiased consumers in their survey, and a sample of 1000 to project 11 billion dollars of purchases? colour me sceptical.
I mean, "The Online Newspaper of Record for Online Marketers" sounds almost exactly like "spamdot: News for spammers" to me.
the survey is sketchy the projections are sketchy the source is sketchy.
find a job you like enough to do for the rest of your life, that pays well and doesn't have too long hours. Then do the stuff you love with your money and free time.
Because let's face it, there's way more stuff that's fun to do in your free time than as a job.
And if you love your job, there's a good chance you're not making enough money to do a whole lot of other stuff. (love + money + time is perfect, like + money + time is a great, easier to attain second place)
In relation to the title of this article, it would also be news if an actual pirate (eyepatch and wooden leg included) had compromised the lab, since pirates are really cool. Yarrrrrr.
they're also very popular on the indie scene. You might not find any Vynil are your local Mega-music-chain-store but there are usually a bunch of new records from independent artists in your local independent music store.
You'd think people on slashdot would know more about opposing "the man" with all the practice they've had against Bill.
I see a bigger chance of windows media files to keep growing in importance.
When I first got WinME with windows media player on it, I was happy to see a "copy to disk" function that looked like it was copying mp3s. Of course, now I have a bunch of *.wma files (luckily winamp can read them).
I'm not the only person I know that uses media player to copy music to my computer. I see this as more likely than Ogg vorbis overtaking mp3s.
It's because of those people that go to the computer store and say : "I want that i-Lack computer thingy!" and then when shown both the iMac and the iPaq, they go with the least expensive model.
I mean, that's also why it looks so pretty; wouldn't want it to clash with my shoes.
That's if you even exist, I haven't any proof of any of you existing outside of this computer thingy

Imagine if they didn't take it into account, it'd be the most high-tech see-saw ever.

step 2??? step 3: profit.
I'm sure there are infinite step 2s available.
I need to stop reading Dan Brown novels....
If I was a billionnaire in charge of a monopoly that everyone hated, I'd piss off the little guys all the time for kicks.
especially the whiners.
Unfortunately, if you're in Africa, and you happen across water, you're probably going to want to be saving it to drink instead...

120 Human Threshold of Pain - 1 watt/sq. meter
120 Loud Rock Concert
simple math shows that:
Loud Rock Concert = Human Treshold of Pain
I can name several bands that surpass my treshold of pain, but it's not really decibel-related.
One example of water overdose - drowning.
MANZIER!

the projections are sketchy
the source is sketchy.
my life remains unaltered.
Even simpler,
what if you're in a northern country (SAY, SWEDEN?) and your car doesn't start because the battery died in the cold.
It needs somewhere to plug the booster cables.
I've always preferred:

for some reason your post made me want to play billiards.

I would happily volunteer to be hired by the australian government to fish those carp out one by one!
it's mostly a moral issue, really. with a big knife it's very easy to steal either or both.

have them watch the movie anti-trust! They'll soon see that Open Source isn't a bad thing, in fact, it's a super-hero!

people still eat fast food even though it's not the healthiest thing around.
Sometimes convenience and ease of access is more important than quality.

you need directx 3 and it won't work with my directx 7 :(
