The era of the web-based software package has come.
And what do I do when I have no internet connection for hours on end? This happened recently with SBC in CT. What am I supposed to do, go home? That is not an option, and we are too small a company to have a secondary connection for back-up purposes (don't ask - I wasn't allowed any input in that decision).
from what i hear, there is one file that needs to be changed/removed and you have yourself a nice new install without a previous version mucking things up.
Send them your post instead of a 70 page report. Mgmt sees 70 pages as a way to try to confuse them into making a decision. They want a one page answer. Doesn't make it right... but you need to work within the system to work the system. No different than a computer really.
Seems to me that NASA's old tech stuff worked a heck of a lot better than anything they have thrown into space since the late '70's early '80's. The examples abound... Hubble, Space Shuttle, various Mars projects, etc.
Planetary thinking is far beyond anything the current US political atmosphere will allow for....
This entire thread feels like it was started by a troll.
How many photo mgmt apps were out there before iPhoto that looked similar, and did more or less the same thing? It is not like Apple originated this stuff... IIRC they bought out two little companies, re-skinned the apps, built in better quicktime support, and voila!
The good gas mileage is a lie. Go look on a new car lot, and the average car is still getting middle 20's mileage in the city. Seems to make sense to me that if the average mileage was now in the high 30's, that the US would be using less gasoline, lessening our need for OPEC products, helping the environment, and overall just doing the right thing. The amazing thing is, neither of the scientificlly aloof political parties in this god forsaken country have been able to figure this out. And before the Dems starting blaming Reagan/Bush, look at Clinton's record. Thanks.
Falling asleep in the middle of the quad, only to be awoken by the 6am sprinklers! Still can't remember where the pillow came from that one time (no - it wasn't mine).
or
Waking up in bed, fully clothed, 2 days later, and the last thing you remember is being drunk in a bar in another country (Mexico was 45min away).
or
Waking up hunched over a toilet that is clean, with no vomit anywhere in the bathroom.
or
Waking up to find your motorcycle parked in the kitchen, with a burnout mark on the floor near the rear tire.
My comment was in reference to gamers the world over communicating via the internet. The propogation of bad or disappointing news is much faster, and available to a wider audience than a typical gamers magazine.
The internet connected console is a cute idea... but I would rather do that with a PC. I prefer the isolated nature of a traditional console attached to a TV.
Nice to know that Japanese companies still don't understand one of the biggest markets they have. This interweb thingy is just exacerbating the situation.
Apple uses renderings for the mini-ipods and others. Not very often can you find a real picture there anymore. I guess pro photographers are more expensive that digital artist types.
This is not about freedom of choice, but rather intelligence to choose. Most people are just not smart enough to make a choice, and stick with it. Most people will either jump to a quick knee-jerk reactionary choice, or they mull it over forever without deciding anything. Usually you will see both behaviors from the same person at one time or another.
Most Americans growing up make little to no real decisions before their latter teenage years. You best time for learning is before the age of 5. If you don't learn how to choose stuff until you are 18 (usually it's "what college do I want to go to"), how do you expect people to deal with multiple options?
Some people throughout history have seen this behavior, and they have set things up (gevernments especially) to avoid the opportunity for real choice while still providing something that is called "freedom of choice." A great example is the election process. Not just anybody can run for political office (in practical terms). I can only imagine the process if there was 25,000 people running for POTUS. Nothing would ever be accomplished. Of course only 2 powerful political parties for 250M+ people is a bit off too.
I have the same Celeron 2.4 and it is indeed a slow machine for that many GHz. The memory bandwidth just isn't there. Day to day desktop (it is my computer at work) is fine, but even a big spreadsheet will bog it down (I also have 512MB RAM).
The computer is not a mystical device. I find it truly amazing that you can sit an intelligent person in front of a computer, and the become absolute morons with no memory! Dumbing down computers to the lowest possible common denominator has made the user experience that much worse (clippy???).
I use a Dell usb optical scroll wheel mouse with my iBook from time to time. It's funny actually, because I can't use the same mouse with my boss' IBM ThinkPad!
Although, I would think that Apple would sell a mouse branded by them with multiple buttons, seeming as how they sell software requiring multiple buttons. Seems strange to exclude a simple hardware market, just because of idealogy (whether right or wrong).
My old school in Colorado did that many many years ago (1988 or 1989 IIRC). The wonderfull idiots at the school district thought it would be great to save money on washing permanent (heavy duty plastic) plates, silverware, bowls, etc, by switching to styrofoam. This was back when Earth Day meant something, so we got together (students of the school - 1,000 or so) and stopped buying lunches! When I say we, I mean we put people at the entrance to the area to pick up your food, with fliers, and said "sorry we are not allowing you to pollute the environment today" or something close to. The school stopped using the styrofoam (returned stock to the people they bought it from), and I think the school still uses permanent stuff to this day.
This was the only time that I truly agreed with environmental activism... of course we did actually research this the real way... library with published scientific journals and such.

cool. my frame of reference was from buying a new hard drive for the ibook.
solitaire...?

if you got the $$$ and the inclination... OS X.
All he did was advise the cops to use the same tracking techniques that got him caught. Not exactly brain surgery.

The Dell optical USB mouse works with OS X 10.3.x without drivers also... but won't work with an IBM ThinkPad with Windows XP Pro. Go figure.

Originality is dead, long live the clones!

Shouldn't it be Apple asking people if their iPod could play other people prop. formats?
Is Real that bad off now?
There goes my fun when I drive a rental... :-(

*shrug*
AFD sucks anyway.

I have more, but not enough time (work sucks).

The EU did not exist when MS started all of this.
Or design it (since it is so close to begin with) to work either way. Remove the opportunity for error whenever possible.
These days, I have a new baby to worry about (Jaime, a girl, Mar 4, 5 lbs 13 oz) so I haven't had a chance to play with one yet.
Congratulations!

The school you ask? Back then it was 7-12th grades. Now it is just a HS.
