wow, that's great. someone writes in asking for advice, and everyone jumps on him with a big stick: you are not that smart or special, get over yourself, etc etc. he didn't ask you to be judge, jury, and moral executioner, ok? he asked for some advice.
maybe you could stop projecting your own insecurities all over him for a few seconds, that would be great.
I have a feeling the root intention of your post was to remind him that a sense of humility is a beneficial thing, and I agree totally with this sentiment.
but why attack him? when he says he's "unusually but non-traditionally bright" it makes me curious--sounds like a potential friend, sounds like the kind of person I wish I met more often in the world. I hear a degree of self-confidence.
when you try to beat him back down, it just seems like more of the narrow-minded judgemental malice that gives me a headache.
ask yourself why you preach humility with this harsh, sarcastic comment. there are better ways
I don't have a definitive answer, but I would guess that latency would be a problem. in a live or recording situation, you really can't have your guitar solo lagging behind the rhythm section. latency has to be very small, whereas wifi introdcues larger and more unpredictable degrees of delay.
the slot they played on SNL runs almost directly counter to the spirit of the whole band. they are given one (or maybe two) pop-song-length bits of time to cram songs into...these are songs that routinely run over the five (and often ten) minute mark at real shows.
and instead of being surrounded by tens of thousands of fans who know the music and can kick back and boogie, they have a barricade of TV lights glaring down on them.
so, judge them if you want, but don't think you got anything close the real phish experience.
The release of a production version of the free GNU operating system (OS) has been delayed beyond the end of the year, as the current development version of the system does not support large disk partitions and high speed serial I/O (input-output), according to Richard Stallman
is it just me, or does it sound like they had it all ready to ship, date planned and everything, and then someone pointed out that it was lacking some major I/O features/performance, and the developers collectively slapped their foreheads and went "oh shit, yeah, we kinda forgot about that one."
like, all this took them by surprise? sucks to forget to implement a couple crucial features, eh?
your concern/outrage/annoyance is totally valid, and I agree with you, but the chances of the/. crew (especially Taco) getting off their collective asses and doing something about it are...well, they just don't exist.
HAHA! Ignore all the claims to the contrary...I have this phone and it's GREAT! it has totally fulfilled all my cellular phone expectations...not to mention that I am now a funnier and more popular person. also I am better looking.
you should TOTALLY try out this phone. I mean, yeah, you could listen to the "marketroids" (haha!!! lingo!) or you could just take the word of regular/. "joes" like myself...and believe me, you might even just want to send some extra free money to ericsson after you see how good it is.
your average slashdotter, sean
ps I CERTAINLY don't work for ericsson...haha!
pps did you notice I wrote "/." instead of "slashdot"? I am SO clearly one of you guys
hey, no big deal--I wasn't attacking you so much as defending the movie. I am sorry you had such a crappy experience. I think to some extent it's a symptom of our culture (and one that Minority Report commented on) that movies are hyped so far over the top. it generates a box office bash, but also a lot of disappointed movie fans. thanks for replying, though.
and don't listen to anyone who states their opinion as though it's some kind of fact. I also got back from seeing this movie about an hour ago, and have already decided I consider it the best of the year so far. and I have a feeling a won't be able to forget it overnight.
I'm not going to post a full review here, but suffice to say my only criticisms are that it felt a bit long, and that some of the ideas could have been better developed (there's a LOT of ideas in this movie). but concepts aside, it absolutely grabbed me on a viscreral and emotional level. I knew it had worked for me when I walked out of the theater and took several minutes to fully reacclimate to the normal world--it was almost like culture shock. to each their own opinion, I say.
as Google got more popular and eventually reached the status it holds today, did you feel any pressure (either internally or from outside the organization) to switch from a Linux based cluster to a proprietary solution (Windows comes to mind, but there are others). Where you (or others at Google) affected by any of the FUD that is put out, and did it affect your perception of Linux as a viable solution?
yeah, that's the exact same thing I thought. I'm pretty sure it's "Innitech" in Office Space, though (at least, according to salon). Definitely has the same ring to it.
He sounds like a politician. This is all press release material, why bother?

yes
yeah, this little "quip" of yours gets SO much more insightful every time you post it.
please, post it again, so I can be further enlightened
are you kidding? that happened AGES ago

this is a solution, searching for a problem
I do not want to run fucking windows CE on my amp, thanks. BSOD = horrible screeching feedback noise, maybe?
agreed. I don't even really know why they do things like SNL, it's just not their strength

can't you read? it's not just "RAM" it's "buffer cache," so it acts to absorb (i.e. BUFFER) some of the impact, should you drop it on the ground.
it's not that hard
god, what a moron! rocks, paper, scissors, of course--best out of three
that would at least partially explain the multi-hundred dollar price tag.
your concern/outrage/annoyance is totally valid, and I agree with you, but the chances of the /. crew (especially Taco) getting off their collective asses and doing something about it are...well, they just don't exist.
apathy is the norm here
who are you, and what on earth are you doing on slashdot?
not that I mind at all

you are *almost* (but not quite) kind of funny, in a trollish sort of way
